In lighter news it seems most of the detail can be retained when a semi-decent person knows what he's doing.
I refined the cobblestone texture and rounded it off better. The results seem pretty astonishing. This is still the 128x128 pack, btw.
That's a bit better, yeah. If you can get it to work on the 256, I'm sure it'd be amazing simply because you have so much more detail (literally twice as much :biggrin.gif: ) to work with. A slight loss of quality is going to be inherently more noticeable on the 128 vs. the 256. Of course, I don't doubt that it's more work as well, so good luck and kudos to you.
*EDIT* I know it doesn't really matter, but for the sake of getting my math right, it would actually be 4 times the detail because it's squared, right? i.e. it's not just 128 or 256, but it's 128x128 and 256x256, so 2x2 more pixels for detail. (Sorry, but I used to major in engineering and little details like this still bother me... )
Alright so I totally love this pack [it seriously makes me want to live in my world], but I have some things I think would help it be better for the total overall excellent experience. I'm using the 256 pack btw.
First, I was thinking that the torches and redstone torches lacked that "reality" factor. To accompany this, the flames are kind of sorry-looking, maybe you could have them be blue at the bottom and brighter on top like real flames?
Second, the sand seems a little... off. I think it could use a feel similar to the dirt, but light sand color [i mean it should have the detail level of the dirt], what do you think?
Third, to reiterate, the flames seem so cartoonish, lets see them come up to par with the rest of this pack.
Oh, and fourth, the wool [just plain wool] I like being white; I made a chess board and now it looks odd. :sad.gif:
One last thing, is there a way to change the cloud settings? I like looking at them, but they are kind of annoying when I'm trying to work on something that high. Maybe a toggle on/off switch?
Overall though, top notch *chuckle*, by far the best pack I've come across yet. Keep it up!!
Oh, and two other things that you might not be able to do but Notch should think about:
1: We should be able to mount the clocks on walls. Seems obvious, as no one really carries clocks in their pocket.
2: Buttons, why don't we have them look like doorbells?

Oh, and I'll be showing the Minecraft my Incredible superhigh-highway-of-the-skyway upon completion, which should be within the week or so. :smile.gif:
I am geting that same issue with the world loading being a bit strange when wildgrass is added in conjunction with this great texture pack Oysterbarron. I've got the same mods too ie. BL + BG and obviously WildGrass, my system is sorta faster ie. AMD Phenom II X4, 4Gb's, HD 5770 1Gb and I don't get much of any slowdown apart from the slight stuttering that comes with using a 256x256 texture pack.
Just noticed that this pack lacks a lilypad & lilypad flower texture for the lilypad addition to Wildgrass, its probably been mentioned before so I aplogise if it has. Its no biggie though!
I also agree the bumpmapping does make the texture lose its detail a bit but I gather that's the trade-off required for the effect to work.
It must be a wild grass error...
Are you guys using the patcher or a direct install. He mentioned on his page that the patcher is broken and doesn't work half the time. Maybe a manual install will fix?
Yes I did use the new wildgrass patcher, will give the ol manual install a go and see but hey you can't always have it all in the realms of modding!
you will have to let me know how you get on for the record! i use the manual way to install wild grass. if someone can point me in the direction of another 256x256 pack with wild grass i will check to see if that sufferes from the same fate!
so for the record
30-50 fps with only 256 pack standard
30 fps with just 256 pack and wild grass
25-40 fps with only Betterlight/bettergrass and simple maps
soon as wild grass goes in (newest manual install file) i get the problem.
15-30 fps with all the mods on and the world spawning problem turned graphics from fancy to shite setting was back to getting 30-50fps but still with the world spawning problem, could it be that you havent added lillypads yet? trying to render something that isnt there?
The lilypads can't be an issue because it still renders them as if they existed, but doesn't give them a skin. Theoretically speaking, without the skin, the game should render then fasterl
I believe you have 64-bit java installed from previous posts, but I couldn't find it. That should be a problem either.
Usually restarting the computer fixes some system processes which in turn would give more memory for other things such as MC.
I'll try to post my 256x256 pack some time during the day.

Notes taken and the torches will be more realistic in the next pack.
You'll have to post some screens of that when you're finished. It's almost required, lol. ^^

Hey, I would really like to use your 256x Texture pack, which looks great, but I am getting "out of memory" errors.
I have installed it and it works just fine for a couple of seconds, but after that I get an "1285: out of Memory" error and the game crashes(tried in the Test mode supplied by the patcher). I don't think it is a problem with my PC (3GB Ram) so it must be a Java issue. I tried reinstalling, but it did not change.
So far, the Problem only occurs in Multiplayer. before the game crashes, it shows values of about 20 FPS and 25% Memory usage.
It might be related to the fact that my Multiplayer world has far more structures than any of my singleplayer games, but since the game does not lag prior to crashing, that seems unlikely.
Edit: Resolved the error by limited the Memory that is allocated to Minecraft.
Glad you resolved your problem while I was sleeping. It could be that multiplayer worlds are massive in size, which in turn would take up more memory.
Installing 64-bit Java also fixes many memory errors when using this game, if you don't already have it.
On my problem i dont get it on the F3 screen its saying its only using 231mb of 900mb so its not running out of memory.
Hmmmm, I highly doubt that it is only running 231mb so I wouldn't quite trust that. Unless it varies from computer to computer, I average around 600-700 when running the 256x256 with BG + BL. Adding in the wildgrass puts mine at about 850mb of memory.
I realize you have a completely better computer than mine and I can quite understand why it isn't running as smooth. A possibility that downgrading to the 128x128 should be a last resort since you are well capable of pulling off the higher resolutions.
If you don't mind, you could just play without the wild grass. It would keep your fps up and rendering speeds should increase dramatically.
So I have gotten the basic 256x256 to work in Single Player and I have to say it looks awesome. The grass and cobblestone from what I noticed has a very gritty look at distance but still nonetheless it is awesome looking.
The only issue I am having is that when I try to join the server I play on I keep crashing. Is this because the texture pack is too demanding? I literally get in game and 1 sec later MC crashes.
Also I am running:
WIndows 7 64bit
Corsair Dominator 6gb DDR3
Intel i7 920 @ 4.2ghz
and
EVGA GTX 580
EDIT: Just tried teh 128 Pack and it works perfectly on my server.

Generally speaking, yes. The 256x256 pack is very demanding on the memory, especially when you enter high sized servers. Unless you have a 64-bit java, the game will crash nearly 100% of the time.
The 128x128 should be able to skate by when getting on servers and such. For now I'm working on lowering the resolution on some of the 256x256 skins which are redundant at that size. This should hopefully fix many issues in the near future.

Let me try 64-bit Java. Pretty sure I got that but I will make sure. Thanks for the reply and I edited my post right before you replied =P and yes the 128 pack works fine thank you.
Love the update to the 128X128, it looks fantastic!
Sandstone looks weird when stacked, maybe improve the way it tiles vertically. Other than that I don't have any issues with it. Keep up the great work.

Yea, I finally decided to make the 128x128 more uniform with the 256x256, so essentially they look just about the same, give or take a few adjustments.
I'll try and see what I can do. ^^

In the word of Kevin ITS SO UNFAIR!
I love your wild grass soo much. the only thing i can hope for is a newer patch for wild grass sorts it out at some point. Im going to try using wildgrass with the standard pack and see if i have the same problem.
The wild grass was one of my finer moments. XD
It probably is something to do with the newer wild grass that makes it slower, but I haven't cracked it open to see what.
For whatever reason, I cannot get wildgrass to work with this pack, any ideas how to fix this problem?
It just loads the nice high-def Mojang logo and then somehow the process is lost.

Are you using the patcher, or a direct install? He mentioned that his patcher has one too many problems that needs fixing so it could just be an error.
Another thing is are you installing in the correct order?
1. HD patcher
2. BG + BL (Optional)
3. Wildgrass
Another thing about his patcher is that installs his terrain.png which should crash a game when it's set for 128x128 or 256x256. To sum it up, a direct install is really the only way to do it minus his terrain.png.
Ah I finally figured it out!
I like looking at it in the wild, but inside my courtyards, it looks like my groundskeeper died or something lol.
The super-high-super-long sky highway is taking a lot of work.
You'll see when I complete it, but I started out with the dirt lines, and decided to lay wood....UNDER them. Needless to say, it is quite the arduous task.
I think that I have the largest distance between two personal forts on a single player game in Minecraft. It is a loooong way.
I found it hilarious that 256 people voted for the 256 texture pack haha.
So I made it 257 =3
Because naturally I am using a 256.
Keep this texture pack up! I need the competition :wink.gif:
You fiend.
I completely forgot about that poll, lol. I'll have to find a way to one up you again.

the only thing I have to critisize so far is that the HP + Armor bars look like ****. The colors hurt my eyes and when you lose only half a life there are weird vertical lines. So I had to replace your icons.png with that of another hd texture pack^^ but apart of that, best HD pack out there IMO
The icons.png hasn't been touched by me at the moment. I'll get around to it probably within the next update or so.

Ok, so I LOVE this mod (256x), and have been using it for a while, but I cannot seem to get any other mods to work with it... I have tried about 10. Of which I have tried without the Texture Pack, and they work fine.
I am currently trying to install the Mod Loader, and Zac's Minimap.
I recieve this error.
I have tried:
- Using the HD Texture Patcher
- Copying them over manually
- Copying the mods over in a different order
- Using WinRAR and 7zip
Any ideas? I have read a bit of the thread but can't see anything relevant... I really don't want to ditch this Mod!
I'll look into Zac's Minimap mod, but at the moment I'm not quite able to help you. In fact, I'll get on that right now to find a way to get it to work. ^^
EDIT:
I got zan's minimap mod working the first shot. =/
This is exactly what I did:
1. Fresh install of Minecraft
2. Hd patcher 256x256 (Didn't select my pack in texture pack area)
3. Installed my pack manually as I always do
4. Installed mod loader
5. Installed Zan's minimap
6. Play XD
lol, sorry, but someone had to... :biggrin.gif:
Possibly, glad it was you, lol
