I've been using this, and I think it looks great. I have a few things of my own personal opinion though that I am not a fan of. I do not like the crafting/inventory screens (crafting table screen too) It seems dark, hard to see the items, it just seems like its not up to par with the rest of the textures. Its got good detail, just too dark and hard to see items IMHO.
The water, might not be something you can do anything with. The water looks great at close up, but at distance, just looks, not sure of the best term, grainy? flickery? I almost prefer the original.
Other than that, looks awesome!
I'll someday go back over the GUI. It's been a rough road with those. XD
The water is something I can't quite fix, but hopefully Minecraft supports texture filtering in the future for a better HD experience.
I messed around with Java and patches, changing this that and the other... don't have white boxes anymore but can't stay connected... and now I can't log-in at all.
Well I've fixed the "white GUI" by just re-applying the textures. As for the lagging issues, I've set the Graphics to "fast" instead of "fancy" and now my FPS are good. I don't really notice a difference in graphics quality but anyhow.
I would really like to try the 256x version but I don't know if it will work properly on my rig (the 2GB RAM part I fear). So should I go for it, or stay at 128x? Is there really a big difference between the two?
There really isn't a noticeable difference between the x128 and the x256 when it comes to the terrain. You'll have to really look at it to notice a significant difference.
The only real noticeable difference is the items are far more "jaggy" on the x128.

Actually water looks great at the distance. It looks sparkly which adds more realism, but mipmapping removes the sparkly effect.
Please leave some constructive comments on your least favorite aspect of this texture pack or something that needs changing so I can get a general consensus of the people for the next update.
Ok so i have a problem...but i think its the patcher. Whenever i see better grass, its grey no matter the txt pack
I'm working diligently on getting this update out within the hour. I have a little experiment that I'm doing out of personal request. I'm making a x32 and x16 download. Right now they are simple downscales. Soon I will redraw them to make them as nice looking as possible. So those will be there for anyone who is interested in trying. Surprisingly the x32 came out extremely well.
The new update will also include an alternative terrain consisting of the old stone textures. I will eventually work on making the minerals look a little better on that stone texture, but for now it's almost entirely old school.
Beyond that, I made a couple changes to the terrain such as the gold/iron blocks and I made a new glowstone texture (AGAIN). Few graphical glitches fixed and I believe I added a few things to the items.png
Due to a lovely lapse in thought on my part. I will be uploading new terrains with the wildgrass tonight along with the compressed versions. Sorry everyone. =(
I'm off to my grandfathers house to go swimming with the family and shoot some targets. Should be fun now that I'm finally getting over the flu.
I'm getting a "running out of memory" warning whenever I try to load a world.
Specs and stuff:
Vista 64bit (SP2)
4GB Ram
ATI HD5830
Intel Q6600 (4 cores)
MC: 1.7.3
Texture pack version: 256x
I did install the HDpatcher, I did select 2048 as Java heap size. I did download Java for 64bit systems from the link you provided.
What am I doing wrong?
-snip-
Good way to check if your system is running MC off of the proper Java is going into task manager while running it. If it says something like x86 or 32* it's running off the wrong Java.
I just made a scan of the items.png file(256x256) and I found a lot of pink pixels that should not be there. I thing I removed them all, If scuttles wants the items.png file modified I can send it to him.
Edit: Yeah, I think the glowstone looks too much similiar to the gold block. And one reques: Make the diamond block bordered like the iron and the gold block.
Items.png is still unfinished. The pink pixels are remnants of the placeholder images which are slowly being weeded out. After forcing opacities I found absolutely no pink pixels. =/
I did find alot of messy work back when I was making the tools. I have bunches of black dots which don't show up in-game so I'm not too worried about it.
I'll see what I can do about the glowstone. I just can't seem to make right anymore. XD
I thought about doing that for the diamond, but it wouldn't make any sense. I think I'll do a border similar to the glass texture because bolts + diamond = shattered. I'm also debating on getting a new diamond texture altogether.
Scuttles, you should replace the link (as in here):

HERE is how to fix the black screen problem. After a little bit of reading and google and stuff like that I fixed my 256 crashing error.
ONLY DO THESE STEPS IF YOU ARE ON A 64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM!!!
1. Version of java.
1a. By default windows 7 64 bit auto downloads java 32 bit. Why? Because browsers run in 32 bit and most java applications are web applications, thus the 32 bit default.
2a. To resolve this issue go to HERE and choose the 64 bit for your respective operating system. Install, rejoice, eat cake.
2. Now! For the easy stuff. Download the HD texture patcher that is linked in the first page of this thread.
2a. inside the HD Patcher go to the Options tab. Find the area under "General options" that says "Java Heap Size (MB)" Change this field from "1024" (What mine was defaulted to) To "2048" (exactly double) and patch your minecraft.
3. ?????
3a. ????????
4. Profit!
by the one I posted above.
Thanks a lot to you ghost p. :smile.gif:
edit: Oh and, all I had to do was download the 64 bit version and change the java heap size (in the mcpatcher). The other stuff is kind of unnecessary (with changing it in the control panel and what not..)
I shall update the main post.
The reason you want to change it in the control panel is because the patcher only allocates it for when you press "test Minecraft" in the patcher. It won't change it for running Minecraft without the patcher.
are you gonna do an 512 bit texture too? you are so awesome. you got like all the åit that works!!! nice job!!! have you test the creeper texture i gave you? it looks really bad ingame... but you can look and give me feedback. thx!!!
Unfortunately, I made all of my textures in x256 resolution so the x512 will require a huge amount of work.
I've tested it and it doesn't look too bad in-game. =)
One final critique besides the shading, is that the scale texture should maybe transition better into the other skin texture.

The diamond block is best without the border. The new glowstone texture have stony texture feeling. It's good since it's glowSTONE.

Is it possible to have x512 texture in minecraft? Some computers have hard time rendering x256, let alone the twice amount of that? It would be good test for my system. I expect a lot of report of out of memory errors. lol

The new patcher is capable of running ANYTHING that is square in resolution. So a 7x7 will work and even a 1024x1024 is possible. I'm able to load the map with a x512 pack (My pack just blown up), but the 768 area and above it crashes/freezes during load. =(
I may just never do anything higher because of all the reports of errors I will be getting, lol
You may be quite right. I just added a border to the diamond and it just looked... weird.
If I recall correctly you were the one that originally gave me such a hard time with my glowstone a while back. This is your fault. XD
Thanks, though.

Dang, my bad. You have good memory. The new glowstone texture is good as the old one. The old one is just shiny looking, great for someone who loves shiny textures. Bring on 1024x1024, I have monster PC. I can run x256 at 120fps(with rain) to 350fps. Is there any x512 texture out there?
this is really imbarrasing but i didnt get the last thing you where saying cause im swedish XD. but if i understand right i gonna do an higher resolution? cause i saw that its actually an 32 or 64 (not sure) so i gonna changes it too a 128 (correct me if im wrong) i want my texture to be special and great soo i try to fix shading and stuff sometime. dont really wanna sit in front off the pc everyday on the summer but it may be relesed at the end of the summer. maybe... probably not XD. we'll see. and i did an glass texture but i think its to much details on it... well thx for taking your time i appreciate it very much.(spelled wrong (i think i spelled "spelled" wrong too XD) THX!
The trick is to never play with a texture too long. It starts to look worse and worse (to you) as you continue to work on it. I was taught that back in a college graphic design class.
The higher the resolution, the more freedom you have with it. I believe your texture was in x64 resolution which is still pretty high resolution.
What I meant by that last part is on the right side of your creeper it goes from a jagged scale texture to a smoother skin textures. The transition between the two textures seems a bit drastic. Maybe try softening it up will help that. =)
I'm used to talking/working with people who don't speak my language too well. I can only speak German and a bit of Greek.

Lol, sometimes my memory is pretty crazy. Other times... Not so much. XD
Damn you have a nice computer.
I know that the vector pack (WIP) has a x512 option. I'm not sure if it's released yet.
Fixed in the next update. Coming tomorrow. =D

Logging in might be a Minecraft server issue. =/
NICE! Ovo really is responsible for showing me that GetSatisfaction thread or I would have never posted it.
:blink.gif:
*head explodes*
Anyway, it's still Thursday over here, lol
For the European folk it may be like Friday afternoon/night before a release. Sorry. =(
Not a bad mod at all.
This video is much more bearable. The other one was just a looped 5 second bit. XD
Lol, thanks. =D

Yea, that's an incompatibility issue with the patcher and modloader if I remember correctly. You can deselect better grass if you want in the patcher.
Bah... I have to update my title again to 1.7.3 or else I'll have people freaking out thinking it's not compatible. =(
Seems you're running out of memory. Try the link at the top of the first page to allocate more memory to Java
I'm off to my grandfathers house to go swimming with the family and shoot some targets. Should be fun now that I'm finally getting over the flu.
Thank you. I'm still trying to find that happy medium.
Haha, oops! I shall fix that tonight. =)
Fixing the clock right now.
Glowstone may change depending on the general consensus of the people.

Could be many factors. Have you used the HD patcher? Also try following the link at the top of the first page to allocate more memory to Java.
If you can, install 64bit Java. That will help you vastly if you have a 64bit computer.
