this pack (256 version) is causing my game to crash. (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x52dfd92b, pid=7696, tid=6260)
im using the current version of minecraft and your pack. After patching with mcpatcher, the test run works, but when i try and run the game via the .exe, it won't go past the mojang splash screen.
system specs:
win 7 x64 (i am using the x86 version of java however...)
i7-860
8GB ram
edit- i also tried a clean installation of minecraft with no luck.
Your computer sounds basically identical to mine. Try Java x64. I have this working on mine without issue. If it's crashing at or after the splash screen then you've more or less "cleared" the typical Black Screen. I started using x64 (never tried this mod when I was using x86), and minecraft now uses nearly half a gig more of ram (previously capped out at 800-850MB, and I had plenty of RAM to spare). Moreover, ~2-300MB of that was after I Started using this pack. Definitely consider memory limitations as a potential problem. You have the RAM, why not use it, right?
My fiance is having the exact same problem now. He said it was working fine last night and now this morning he can't get past the Mojang screen without freezing then closing itself. My computer is running it fine and I even tried copying my file exactly to a USB drive and copying it to his computer but still no results. Also tried re-installing Java and nothing. Also, read about the 64 bit Java thing but when I go to the manual dowload page it doesn't differentiat between which is which (doesn't say 64 or 32 bit or anything, just different file sizes). If you could help me out that would be great :smile.gif:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
2.1GHz Processor, 3BG RAM
32-bit operating system
huh, it actually does say 32-bit and 64-bit on the links on mine. Anyway, out of the two windows links, 64-bit is the second one (the slightly larger one (15.4mb vs. 15.3mb)).
I don't know if it will help you of not. I read somewhere that someone used 64-bit on a 32-bit OS, but I don't know if they had to play around with it to get it to work. If it doesn't, you may just have to skip on this pack, I'm sorry to say. This pack does use more memory, but 32-bit has a limit around 900mb that even vanilla MC can come close to hitting under certain circumstances.
Also, as was said, if you're trying 256, try 128 and it might be just that much smaller where you can get by. Granted, it won't be quite as pretty, but it also won't be quite as demanding. Make no mistake, 256 WILL make MC run slower, so unless you have an AMAZING graphics card, you might not get stellar results with the 256 anyway.

Won't make much of a difference because you have a 32-bit OS (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong) so you can't install the 64-bit Java on that specific system.
Hmmm... What version of this pack are you running, 128x128 or 256x256? Also, which method of installation you used might be helpful. [What I mean by this is direct install, the patcher, or the texture pack folder.
Edit:
I'll be updating the 256x256 today and hopefully the 128x128.
Sorry, didnt realize I didn't include the version. We are both using the 256. We have tried to instal it both with the patcher and manually for him but no success.

Interesting, if they can get a 64bit to work, I'm certainly not complaining. ;D
It does make sense since it's capped just under a gig when true 32bit is capable of doing processes up to 2.7 gig or somewhere in that neighborhood.
I read somewhere when trying to download the 64bit java that you need to have a 64bit internet browser as well to be able to view it because of the auto-detect that is present on the java page.
The 128 is a good recommendation, and soon a 64 pack will come. I'm currently updating the 128 and trying to make it as pretty as the 256 pack. Since I am just one person with college and well, a life, this may take a while to actually come out. I'm hoping today, though. ^^

For me, at least, this link: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp takes you to a portion of Java's site where you can manually select which version to install. If you use the auto-detect version, then yes, you need to visit with a 64-bit browser, which are few and far between.
As for memory, it is odd that it caps it so low, but it does. I know with 64-bit even with this pack and several very heavy mods, I haven't gone over 1.4Gb, which is not unreasonable. However, as I said, with 32-bit it capped out below 900mb, so I know I'd crash if I were stuck on that version still.
And a 64 pack would make this even more accessible, so kudos for that. Just don't over-extend yourself, as we'll still need you for the 256 :biggrin.gif:

I just updated the 256 with more items and new cloth textures. Enjoy. XD
I really like the look of it, but the cloth patterns are really nasty IMO, especially when they're tiled. Any chances we could get one without patterned cloth?
all the tutorials are telling me to find my C:/documents and settings/user/appdata... but theres no app data folder when i get there. just desktop, favorites, my documents, and start menu. im running xp. please help!

It's a hidden folder. A quick way to get to it hold the windows key and hit r, then type in "%appdata%" without the quotes and it should send you directly to the folder.

They are not final, I just wanted to have something there. I don't personally use them often, but I'm just in testing for now and may just be different types of colored cloth instead of patterns.

lol, the cloth is hysterical with some of the ways people have used it. A whole bunch of people on one of my servers I play on were using colored cloth as building accents, but the patterns make it look so out of place. Honestly, the patterns make me laugh, so I don't even want to say they're bad :biggrin.gif:
Same for the new ice, really. I don't hate it, but it is definitely a change.
Mipmapping is all fixed, so we're good on that front.
And soooooooooo many new item skins! I have to figure out what everything is again! :tongue.gif:
Keep up the good work. You have made me a believer in Super-HD texture packs.

Lol, thanks.
Well seems like I'll have to come up with better ideas for the wool. ;D
I could just have a higher res piece of wool and recolor it like the game was designed for, lol
I'm loving that mipmapping, once I figured out that Catalyst AI breaks it.
Trying to give the HD packs a good name was my main goal.

Good lord, this texture pack is insane! I salute you, sir!
For now I'm gonna stick to the 128X128. The 256 one is the only thing that's ever caused my FPS to drop, and eventually crashes the game. I hope you stick with updating the 128 as it's great!

I will be updating the 128 very soon. Give it a day or two, It's taking longer than I thought it would. =\

Really? Catalyst broke it? I'm on a 4870X2 and I haven't had a problem. My guess would be that if you can run it with crossfire, then catalyst shouldn't be a concern. You should try updating your drivers. I actually had to update to the most recent ones for something else, but the mods are all working fine for me, so maybe that's why. Then again, there could be 260000000 different things that could affect any of this, as usual, so who knows...
I've tried to install your mod, but your mod just love to crash at started up, even when I've did the HD texture fix, it crashes on start up all the freaking time. What am I doing wrong? Also your first post is really not that organized.
Yea, I'm a bit scatter brained at times. I'll try and clean that up.
What version are you running and what are some of your computer specs?
I'm running the latest version 1.2.0.2, I always tend to run the latest version.
My system spec:
Windows 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 5850 w/ 1 GB
4 GB of DDR3 ram
AMD Phenom II black edition quad core 3.22 GHz

True story. I have a semi-decent laptop, so crossfire unfortunately isn't really an option I have the luxury of getting.
I updated my drivers yesterday, but everything works now, so we're good, lol.

How can I up the opacity of the water textures?
I fixed it with the new 256x256 version. The 128x128 version fixes will come soon. If you want to do it manually just open it up in paint.net or photoshop and increase the opacity.
Edit:
Updated the pack to without the obnoxious textures. I'll try not make this pack so early in the morning anymore. =/

Hey Look! I get to use this link again! :biggrin.gif:
If you haven't already, download the 64-bit version of Java (auto-detect looks at your browser, which is typically 32-bit, so on a 64-bit computer, you really need both versions). Try with this installed. This fixes 99% of problems, it seems, just by opening up more RAM for usage. High-res textures require more RAM and 32-bit Java has a cap on how much it'll utilize.
i got it almost working it works fine with bettergrass when i dont have wild grass installed,
but ...
when wild grass is installed the side of dirt blocks are gray and not green grass ...
other then that it looks grat.
