I don't notice a performance difference at all using 32-Bit Java, but it has been uncomfortable without the 256x256 pack. I'll give the 128x128 pack a try, and if I still can't live w/o it, then back to Java 64-Bit, regardless of the incompatibility with the Steam overlay.

256 packs are few and far between, but this one is one of my favorite for anything underground. When I'm above ground however, the textures give off a dark feel that just isn't pleasant for creating wonderful structures.
I know this really isn't something you can just up and fix, and there are some people who like it, so all I can say is thank god for the MCPatcher HD fix 2.0 so I can use this pack whenever I go underground and not have to re-patch to go build my structures.

I thought this seemed interesting, and looked it up.

Industrialcraft adds in massive amounts of textures. Keep in mind these are all translated into 256x256 regardless if they look pixelated or not. This is likely your cause for the lag.

I did try to give it a more darker, realistic feel to it which makes the cave exploration terrifying, even for me.

HOW could you possibly said mipmapping sucks???? Especially when it not only conserves memory usage, but also eliminates that obnoxious moire that 90% of the vanilla textures make. Pissed. :sleep.gif:

I'd imagine because of both. MrMessiah had a huge fan base around him probably naggin him until he caved. I think the quote was somewhere along the lines of "It doesn't fit into Minecraft" instead of the straight up "mipmapping sucks", but there is still that chance if we can push it home. =)
Also, was that MrMessiah = Jeb rumor really true. I never managed to figure it out and I'm way out of the loop. Hell, I'm still in 1.3_01 because I'm too lazy to update all of the mods I have installed, lol

No, the actual quote really was "mipmapping sucks". It's on his twitter right now. It was pretty upsetting, because things like mipmapping and anisotropic filtering fit with ANY 3D application. It's these kinds of things that make me worry Notch doesn't know what he is talking about :[
Tried running 256x256. I finally found something my computer couldn't handle. Besides that I do like the 128x128, but the slightly increased resolution over 64x64 isn't worth the drop in framerate, at least not until optimine is updated. I really wish someone would revive Albion...
I'd still say having 64bit java, and needing to F11 out of the game for Steam is better off for the [HUGE] performance boost.
