Not that I would say it's particularly hard to run.

64-bit OS and 64-bit Java is a must.
Wow, ive been with your texture pack before you even had a 256x pack, and i absolutely cannot wait for the 512x. Please send it to me when you can, i will also take pictures for you and let you know how it runs. I get about 110-130 fps on your 256x pack so i think it should be fine.
I'm waiting for more of the terrain to get finished before putting up a download. =)
Do you mean 2x larger than 256x? 256 X 2 = 512. 256x takes average 600MB RAM, so 512x would take 1200MB or 1.2GB of RAM. And 2048x would take around 4800MB or 4.8GB of RAM. 0_0. I also can't wait for Skyrim which comes out at the same day when Minecraft becomes full version.
Technically 4x because it multiplies the amount of pixels by 4. 256x256 = 65526 pixels (Per texture) and 512x512 = 262144. So many damn pixels... O.O
Wow, 512x eats up the RAM like a starving fat guy. I have to make a batch file to allocate more RAM to minecraft.
The batch file: java -Xmx4096M -Xms4096M -cp Minecraft.exe net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
It takes from 1400MB to over 2000MB! 0_0 Here is some screenshots. The fps drop of using 512x is small, only around 30.

Haha, nice. xD
I'll have to fiddle with my comp to see if I can get it to run. I really didn't try too hard before giving up, to be honest.
I have been doing some calculations. 256x takes average 600MB RAM. 512x takes average 1600MB RAM. That's around 2.5 times the RAM. So, 1024x would take around 4000MB and 2048x would take 10,000MB! That's a lot of RAM. 2048x would be insane. Is there any games out there that uses 2048x texture?
Lmao, that's ridiculous.
Actually, there are games out there that use 4096x4096+ resolution textures. The only reason it doesn't lag so much in other games is that it blankets city blocks instead of a meter cube.
Has anyone ever clicked the number next to "replies" in the forum? It shows who and how many posts they have in this thread. Besides me, Phantom is in the lead for posts. =)

They are simple downscales for the time being. In the future I will go over each block individually to make them better.
It has come to my attention (and, I already mentioned this to Scuttles) that a lot of people aren't aware of a possible alternate option to using the HD Patcher to get texture packs like this one to work in Minecraft. So, I thought I should post this:
You don't actually need to use the HD Patcher to get texture packs to work in the game.
Instead, you can use the "Optifog+Optimine Mod" (make sure it's the package that includes BOTH, not only the Optimine standalone) to allow HD textures and fonts to be used in Minecraft.

About this pack:
This pack was originally to appease my insatiable hunger toward making this game as realistic as possible. What started as a compilation of other mods became a new texture pack of it's own. The mod itself is about was almost able to be released, but the new update has set things back a bit...
DONATE!!!!
Donations are more than welcome. I've decided to not only use the donations to purchase textures to use for this pack, but the wife and I have agreed to start collecting a baby fund for the future:
People to thank for their large donations:
Thank you for your dedication and donations. I really appreciate people understanding the delicate time and effort put into these higher resolution packs.

--The first Adfly links allows me to get a little bit of money for your patience of 5 seconds. Again, all of this will go towards purchasing of new textures and the fund. ^^
-The second Adfly link is an extremely experimental compressed version of this texture pack. It reduces the amount of memory used when playing and hopefully resolves some white box issues. Memory drops vary from computer to computer.

I had a few personal requests to do these lower resolution textures. They still need heavy refinements but still came out pretty decent with the downsampling. I won't be doing compressed versions of these since it would simply be redundant.

LotR Server:
I've agreed to support this server as I'm a huge LotR fan. I'll try to get on there sometime and I will be texturing some things especially for this.
Supported Mods:
These are the current supported textures for some mods. I will be working on expanding this tenfold over the course of this summer. =) Wildgrass:

Alternatives:
New Biomes:
For now, all I have available is alternative biomes which cause the grass and foilage to be colored in a variety of different ways. Some such examples would be a fall/autumn coloring, a summer coloring, or a consistent green everywhere.

Alternative Terrains:
Old stone texture from previous versions: http://adf.ly/22TsL
I will be posting additional alternative terrains as time progresses. I'll even have quite a few terrains that will almost make it a different pack altogether.

-Download the HD Patcher
-Run HD Patcher and press "Patch"
-Place Texture pack into "texture pack" folder
