So I decide to make a texture pack and then I get a great idea for diamonds/coal/iron. I modded one of the painterly windows, and placed a diamond on the side to create what should have been something similar to glass with a diamond on it. What happened instead was I created a weird effect. The transparency that had been added to the window made a weird effect. I can only explain it with screenshots.
This is iron on smooth stone like you would find a cave.
The iron is arranged like so, []
This time the iron is like this:
[] []
Coal floating by itself.
I'm not really sure what is going on here. I could always recolor to have to transparency not be there but I'd like to know more about this. Also, for those of you Paint.net savvy folks, how do I add/remove tranparency?
I have no idea what youre talking about with the whole "iron" thing, but I know glass can't be transparant
The general idea is to have a glass block with the ore symbol on the side. However, when the ore block is placed against smooth stone, it creates a strange effect where you can see through the glass and see other parts of the world. You can only see parts that are lit though...

You can't have blocks being transparent. Doing so will create the effect you just mentioned; being able to see through the world.
People use this effect to make glass packs with which they can find dungeons etc easier.
Thanks, now I can finish. How does glass work then? If you just left the space empty, it would render as white and you couldn't see through it.
