Just checked out the WIP, and have to say it is GREAT! Already blows every other texture pack off the moon.
The great: The HUD, It really stands out and makes the text and images very readable. The torches really look awesome underground with all that metal (which btw looks very natural in the scenery, most cave openings are surrounded with metal letting you know where the cocoons are). Redstone wire stands out really well and connections are obvious (only suggestion I have is to make them not so red, maybe more copper/bronze colored). And the mobs are fantastic. I love the triple-M's :biggrin.gif:
The not so great: Unlit redstone torches blend in too much with other blocks, and the switches look rather trippy. Though I am not sure if those are good or bad things yet, lol. Stone slabs have way too many rivets on the top, they are noticeably different from their surroundings. And the trash (gravel) blocks need to stand out a LOT more, they look smooth and clean compared to dirt (go figure).
I do actually kind of like the bars for windows, even though it makes my wood huts feel like prison cells.
P.S. none of the paintings I had up were converted to your images... were they excluded from this pack, or did I do something wrong?
I hadn't included paintings.. When I release the next WIP, I will. As far as most of your other criticisms are concerned, they are all on my radar, and will be fixed before the final version.
I'm noticing the darkening of blocks I'm in the process of breaking as well. If I understand the way the "breaking" textures work right I think the base gray shade (not the broken texture part) may be darker than the default.
If it's intentional then I'm not a fan of it personally, if it's not then I would suggest pulling the gray shade out of the default textures for it.
Edit: Also, for the furnace. The digital lines behind the "fire" texture and the progress texture are one pixel too high.

I am gonna fix this.. I will probably just make the background a transparency.
After playing with this pack on for the last day or two i gotta say, I can't see myself playing minecraft without it now. It's kind of reinvigorated my love for this game. Can't wait for the full release.
why didnt we get the wip items? and why is the crosshair so strange? and bookshelf's are the same? and the armour is the same? we know you did most of this stuff so why not release it? otherwis its great!!! it all makes sence too: i dont have to spend a while working out what is what underground cos it all just clicks, like it did when you first played it with the default texture pack!!

Unless you noticed, this is a pre-release.
not everything is done.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, an opinion cant be awful. Its an opinion. Its your opinion that his opinion is awful.

Leather armor: Plauge suit and a gas mask. All of these looking a bit brown, thick, and bumpy, being made out of stonehide.
Gold armor: Suit with a tie and top hat of course! Maybe I can think of something more fitting if you tell us what gold is.
Iron armor: A rusty grey Iron Man type suit. No super powers included.
Diamond armor: Thought of two things.
1. A painted, much better Iron Man type suit. Can withstand many blows, but does not come with lock on missles.
2. Halo themed suit? No energy shield included.
Also, as for axes, gah, who uses axes these days anyway?
Wood sword: What is wood? What are trees?
Gold sword: Whats gold?
Iron sword: Possibly a sort of mace, battleaxe, warhammer, etc.
Diamond sword: A polished sword, looks epic. Small tube in the bottom containing a plasma cell.
TNT: A pack of C4.
Chest: Safe (Works better than workbench)
Workbench: Small desk with blueprints on it.
Furnace: Oven/microwave
Mossy cobblestone: Pale white labratory walls.
Flint: A pack of matches. You find that stuff in the trash! Fire inside futuristic arrow-bullets make sense too.
Flint n Steel: Match with a lighter.
Redstone torch: Small wall with an electricity outlet. Redstone light will be due to the red sparks (that come out of redstone torches anyway)
There, plenty of ideas, non fallout related, I hope to see in the final pack.

Cry a river. Punch a tree. Craft and build a wooden bridge over the river. Use your bridge to GET OVER IT.
Gold armor: Suit with a tie and top hat of course! Maybe I can think of something more fitting if you tell us what gold is.
In game, gold ore appears to be a safe. It would make sense for nice stuff to be inside, I guess.
Gold sword: Whats gold?
It's really unclear what exactly is contained in the safe. Could just be gold to make gold swords/watches/et cetera. In the Mo' Creatures mod (the most demanded mod support), gold swords are required to take down werewolves. It's not clear what would equate to this. Maybe something irradiated. Any type of metal can be irradiated, and as long as you limit your exposure, you would never really know the difference. Would be cool if gold swords had a glow in the dark effect (like the mining light mod or the carry-able torch mod) due to radiation, which would make them actually really useful in caves.
Chest: Safe (Works better than workbench)
Workbench: Small desk with blueprints on it.
Furnace: Oven/microwave
These already have models in game. You can see them here:
The left-side, with those washing machine-esque things, is covered in furnances. The "fragile" boxes are crates (chests). The far right is a workbench. Still, the idea of a metal chest (which would be a safe), would be kinda cool for a mod (maybe only open-able when powered by redstone, like a steel door?) Nonetheless, there is already a "safe" model in the game, and it is used for gold ore.
Just a couple critiques. Nice ideas, though.

Could someone explain in laymans terms how to get this pack to work?
Just install it like you would any other texture pack. Take the files and put them directly into your .jar file. Back up the .jar in case you want to play normally in the future.
I decided to make this so serve as a utility for anyone unsure what is what in the new texture pack.
History is obviously free to use this, but I'm sure if he adds one to the OP, it will be a much more professional looking one than this.
Either way, from the sound of things, the clay, glass, brick, and gold block are all slated to be changed. Due to graphical errors, changes on the pumpkin, brick, and gold block are anticipated. A new texture for the lapis lazuli ore and block are expected. Bookcase appears to use the default texture, change status is unknown, but due to how light it is, I'd bet it will be changed.

You might want to run the HD Patcher first... It gets rid of those rando flames and portals.
The only words that can define what a person might say when they see this for the very first time are:
OH YUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a infinite amount of time until they die but then again there body will fall on the keyboard making the "!" infinite after all.
Thus expressing how cool this texture pack is.
*Bows* Thank You

Could someone explain in laymans terms how to get this pack to work?
1) Quit minecraft (I know, I know, it's hard)
2) Download mcpatcher for your OS. Then download this pack from the OP, and keep it as a .zip file.
3) Run mcpatcher. Inside mcpatcher you choose your minecraft jar file (I think it finds it by default) and then select the zip file you just downloaded to use as the Texture Pack. It should automatically choose 32x32 as the tile size. Then click "Patch".
This is the tricky part:
4) If you want the grass and trees to be the right color (and a few other things to look right) you'll have to edit the .jar file itself, which you can find in mcpatcher as the "Output" file path. Jar files are zip files, so you can use WinZip to open it by renaming it to minecraft.zip. Unzip both the minecraft jar file into a folder called "minecraft" and unzip the LAST DAYS zip file. Inside LAST DAYS you'll find a folder called "Direct to .Jar" drag all the files in there (excluding the misc folder or the Thumbs.db, if you see that) into the minecraft folder you just created. Then go into the misc folder and move all those files (except Thumbs.db) into the misc folder within the minecraft folder.
5) Select all the files inside the minecraft folder and zip them up into a single zip file. (DO NOT zip the minecraft folder, just all of its contents). Then rename the zip file to minecraft.jar and put it back where the original was.
6) Run minecraft and log in. It should load fine, otherwise you did something wrong. Worst case scenario if all goes wrong, you simply have to reinstall minecraft and try it again (your save files should not be affected).
7) Enjoy LAST DAYS!
NOTE: This process would be so much easier for the layman if mcpatcher would be able to patch those "Direct to .Jar" files and the misc files... Anybody know why it doesn't do it?

it would if it was organised right, i just reorganised the files i downloaded and used the patcher and bam it works, not sure why history thinks it doesn't patch them in, cause it always has, just make sure custom water and lava and all that is ticked.

Thanks for the tip-off. I figured it was just the result of being a WIP. After all, such things are pretty normal to see in an unfinished work.
