Fair enough, my bad. Having examined the environment in-game, I stand by my claim that I think it has a lot more potential as a save-based mod, but I understand your intention to make it fresh from new worlds.
EDIT: I thought I might clarify, in retrospect, that when I read through the lore initially, I didn't realize how ubiquitous the 'cocoons' were supposed to be, thus leading to the misunderstanding. Nonetheless, I've looked at it in single-played mode, and it is still a wonderful terrain pack whether you use saves or not.
The scene is your general post apocalyptic environment, with bleak wastelands stripped bare of all vegetation. Before 'the event' that brought this world into its current state, many of the more fortunate inhabitants burrowed into the ground and created a network of reinforced caverns, or 'Cocoons' as they were later known. Little did they know that these wouldn't offer the protection that they initially hoped for. The less fortunate were left to scavenge and fight for themselves. In an attempt to distance themselves from danger they built thousands of makeshift buildings, many raised above the ground on stilts to offer protection agaisnt the various mutated creatures that wandered the wastes. These became known as 'Scrap-Shacks'. This is a place you really don't want to exist, be it above ground on sheltered within a Cocoon, it will be harsh, it will be hopeless, it will be your last days.
not sure how my quote made it in to all of that :tongue.gif: i understand why its metal, i was just saying that the cobblestone is very busy when you use alot of it. :smile.gif: nothing more than that.
I agree with dorian, the cobblestone is really hard on the eyes when used in large or even medium amounts, maybe make it four small plates? And a little rust would be nice too.
As for the mod support, I vote Plastic Craft.

Ever hear footsteps in your mines, even when you are perfectly still?
Excuse my idiocity, but if I'm trying to use this, do I need to run that HD fix people talk about for 32X packs?
no, you gotta drag them from the download folder to the .jar
if you dont want texture glitches, then YES you do, if you dont mind a few glitches (and the nether looking like an ocean) then you can just drag and drop it.
Had an idea for the scrap shacks last night, if you wanna use it: the trunk of a normal tree would be a mechanical faceplate, with lights and a keyboard and whatnot, which is used to program the nanites that build the shack once it's set, using base materials kept inside the machine. Now, however, the nanites have gone haywire (which is why they build oddly-shaped, poor quality shacks). There is, however, a small amount of the base material left behind inside the machine... about enough for four good-sized pieces. The actual wood, then, would look more like a homemade scrap-shack wall piece, and less like the rotted-away version that's on the trees now. Birch could be a different look to the machine, while pine trunks are normal trees with rotting, web-covered leaves. Then the odd pine leaves that show up in normal trees are just old cobwebs in the gaps in the shack. This would also allow tree trunks to be used for computer terminals, if you don't wanna work wool to look like that.
Is there any way we could get this as an optional texture, at least? Once you're through with the main stuff, I mean.
Man, I downloaded the Pre-release and it's pretty awesome. I do have one little critique/suggestion. I think the stone texture as metal is a little weird. It's a little off in a way that it doesn't make much sense that under all there dirt there is just a mass of metal.
I don't particularly have any suggestions to fix it. Just an observation. Other than that I love the pack.
really glad you decided to give us all a pre-release edition thank you but why is it so dark at night now, seriously its ridiculous, also why is it in every apocalyptical style game glass no longer exists? Seriously? Anyone who says nukes shatter glass, irrelevant. Doesn't mean you cant make it again i just hate having useless/akward windows and what is up with the brick texture? Maybe I aint read some of the lore on it but its bloody odd. Sorry to be a moaning b*****d I know you've spent a lot of time and effort on it and I honestly couldn't do any better but thought I'd finally throw my two cents in seeing as most people have done so for months now.
I know.. the brick looks like **** at the moment. I am going to release a new terrain file as soon as i can. I should have probably just switched the default back in as a place-holder. There is an explanation of what the brick was going to be, and likely will be on the previous page. also.. as far as glass goes I am going to add some alternate textures to the next release as well.

I have an idea for glass if this is plausible... Cracked foggy clear plastic.
I'm not sure if alpha channel transparency is an option without modding, but if so you could give the windows a radial alpha gradient to make them look more dome-like and perhaps a green tint.
This is the best picture I can find to show you what I mean: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/151/419564975_abebf16b3d_o.jpg (except it needs cracks to make it look old).
Awesome pre-relaese, but the cobblestone is a bit ugly, and there is a weird glitch(?) where the breaking animation makes a block darker. I don't know if this is just me though.
Just checked out the WIP, and have to say it is GREAT! Already blows every other texture pack off the moon.
The great: The HUD, It really stands out and makes the text and images very readable. The torches really look awesome underground with all that metal (which btw looks very natural in the scenery, most cave openings are surrounded with metal letting you know where the cocoons are). Redstone wire stands out really well and connections are obvious (only suggestion I have is to make them not so red, maybe more copper/bronze colored). And the mobs are fantastic. I love the triple-M's :biggrin.gif:
The not so great: Unlit redstone torches blend in too much with other blocks, and the switches look rather trippy. Though I am not sure if those are good or bad things yet, lol. Stone slabs have way too many rivets on the top, they are noticeably different from their surroundings. And the trash (gravel) blocks need to stand out a LOT more, they look smooth and clean compared to dirt (go figure).
I do actually kind of like the bars for windows, even though it makes my wood huts feel like prison cells.
P.S. none of the paintings I had up were converted to your images... were they excluded from this pack, or did I do something wrong?
