So I had about a two hour power outage and lost all my psd files I had open. They were all saved as pngs already but losing my layers is slowing me down a bit.. Anyway.. this is one potential way of doing wool.
Possibly. But I can't tell if those are metal plates or actual wool (at least some sort of textile).
If they're plates, which now I'm pretty sure they are, they're fine as-is but could use a bit of design work. But if they were wool the "stitches" close to the edges would've been smaller. It took a glance or two to realize what they were made of.

EDIT:
A little more of a rusty metal feel now.
good compromise, still needs a little work though, maybe the colours could stand out a little more?
I like the zombie pigman and that wool, I think wool should be wool and although it would be cool if they were scenery items if you switch to another texture pack, "Why is there red wool in the ceiling?"
I will play with the wool blocks a bit more..and maybe do something a little better for a future release.. but I dont want to spend toooo much time on them now. there is much to be done and focusing on making 16 unique blocks is too much of a distraction. A possible idea for future release.

and so on.. I think that could make for some good post appocalyptic pixel art.
as far as switching between packs goes.. I would definitely recommend a dedicated save but its actually more switchable then you would expect. I go on to servers from time to time to see how it translates.
Had an idea for the scrap shacks last night, if you wanna use it: the trunk of a normal tree would be a mechanical faceplate, with lights and a keyboard and whatnot, which is used to program the nanites that build the shack once it's set, using base materials kept inside the machine. Now, however, the nanites have gone haywire (which is why they build oddly-shaped, poor quality shacks). There is, however, a small amount of the base material left behind inside the machine... about enough for four good-sized pieces. The actual wood, then, would look more like a homemade scrap-shack wall piece, and less like the rotted-away version that's on the trees now. Birch could be a different look to the machine, while pine trunks are normal trees with rotting, web-covered leaves. Then the odd pine leaves that show up in normal trees are just old cobwebs in the gaps in the shack. This would also allow tree trunks to be used for computer terminals, if you don't wanna work wool to look like that.

That would be really cool! If you're not already done with the art page, could you consider make one of the art pieces be a "Welcome to *insert city* " sign? It oculd say the population number and have the number scratched out.

You should leave the gray, white, and black wool blocks be wool, but then change the others into decorative items as you said

Sounds good.. I am not done with the art yet. So I am sure I can swing this.
Wow all i gotta say... turning out really nice cant wait to see it when its complete... I really need to start on my SW textures lmao though u gave me some great ideas.
I'm already building my hidden Cocoon, I'll be waiting (im)patiently.
Also, I have an idea for the swords. 'wood': a sharp peice of aluminum on a handle. 'stone': A simple combat style knife. 'iron': something like the ripper from (sorry) Fallout 3, with a chainsaw as the blade. 'diamond': A combat knife with a metal blade, but plasma as the edge.

EDIT: DELIVERED!
I love everything about it except the wool.
Keep it coloured.
