changing the minecraft items

Okay, so i am making my own texture pack, and i edited the items from the items png. folder, and when i put it in the minecraft jar. folder and played it, all of my items have a black square surrounding them! how do i get rid of it?

What program did you use to edit the textures? By any chance, did you use Microsoft Paint?

yea i did. i take it that paint isn't the best choice for edits?

NEVER USE MICROSOFT PAINT TO EDIT TEXTURES!!

Download either Paint.Net or Gimp, I would personally suggest Paint.Net
