Hi there. I've been working on a texture pack to eventually share on this forum, but today I hit a problem. I hope some of you experienced artists will be willing to help a newbie. I'm not sure where to search about this issue, since I don't even know what the effect is called.
(Hoping the problem will be visible in the dark, shrunken screenshot...)
I was fiddling around with the wood planks texture, trying to make it look a little less like plastic, and when I checked it ingame I have flickering white sparkles where the wood blocks meet the stone. Whenever I move the mouse, the white sparkles jump around on that border. What's extra weird about this is the problem only shows up on the north side of this room; the identical wood and stone border on the south side looks normal, no sparkles.
So I did something wrong with the texture... but I have no idea what. What's this problem called? How did I cause it? How do I fix it? All helpful advice is gratefully accepted here.
Actually I think the one side of this room may have empty space back there, while the other one doesn't. Maybe.
It's just strange that the problem appeared immediately after I changed that wood texture. But if there's no fix, then no worries I guess. Thanks, Koolwitak.
[*:12aylsu7] Rounding errors rendering the edges of the blocks. Prevalent in many 3D games.
[*:12aylsu7] The cube face the player faces has a border to show it is in range. This border may shrink when you increase the texture size. Try it:
Look a cube near you, and a square border around it appears.

Is there empty space on the opposite side where those two blocks meet?
It might only occur if your blocks are in this formation:

So I think you might be able to fix it by doing this:
