So, a while back, I decided to make my own textures. I've seen a ton of awesome texture packs, but most of them have been too dark and dreary for my taste. With that in mind, I set out to make something a little more colorful and bright. This pack was originally just for my self to use, but I figured I may as well share it, since I like how it has turned out so far.
These are still a work in progress, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
I haven't done any mobs yet, or items... mostly just the terrain. The important stuff is all done, other than any tweaks that may need to be made.
- IMPORTANT - Keep in mind, I use custom foliagecolor.png and grasscolor.png, and those need to be placed manually into the minecraft.jar, in the misc folder. Without moving those files into the right spot manually, most of what I set out to achieve with the pack is lost, and the grass colors won't be correct.
Your Minecraft.jar is at c:/Users/[YourUsername]/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
Open minecraft.jar with WinRAR or 7zip, and drag the misc folder and files over to overwrite/install them.
AppData is hidden by default. To show hidden folders go to Control Panel, Classic View, Folder Options, View Tab, and under Hidden Files and Folders, select the show option.
Any suggestions are welcome! If I get enough positive feedback, it should motivate me to move on to items and finish out the rest of the stuff. Hope you guys enjoy!

Love it! Definitely staying in my game for a while.
Cobblestone look great and it's so vivid and bright. Looks awesome.
Suggestions... uh. Maybe do a more clearer tilled soil texture... Maybe like double curves and more of a deeper brown once it's 'hydrated'. Also the grass and foliage colors worked fine when I put it in the texture pack folder.
I'll maybe suggest more and upload some pics once I play around with it more.

Awesome. I'm glad you like it!
I will take your suggestion and darken the "wet" dirt, I wasn't completely happy with the current anyway.
I'm not sure what you mean by clearer soil though. Less detail?
Also, are you sure your grass and foliage colors are working correctly? I tried it out again (after a clean install of Minecraft) and I still had to manually replace the foliagecolor.png and grasscolor.png for my colors to show up, otherwise it was just the normal grass colors and trees.
I'll check my minecraft.jar and see if the custom tree/grass foliage.pngs actually worked.
But I mean 'double curves' like this.
I just a quick copy paste, I did in Photoshop but you get the point, there was no clear distinction between normal dirt and tilled soil. You can clean it up a bit if you decide to use it (there's this miss-colored pixel on the bottom 'curve' in the middle).

Ah, I see what you mean now. I actually experimented with something similar to that when I first made the dirt texture (two wavy lines) but it looked too busy for my taste, so I went down to one, and I kind of prefer just the one.
Edit: I just now realized that you only meant that to be the tilled dirt. I read your post wrong like 3 times! Ooops. I will try the multi lines for tilled dirt out, that may actually look cool. Good suggestion!
Edit 2: I tried it out, and I like it. I will add it to the next update. First I'm going to redo some of my ore textures though.
I did take your advice, and I changed the wet/dry dirt to be darker/lighter though. It looks a lot better now. I'll upload the changes.
And CrazyZig, if you mean the red crates, that's actually a TNT crate, in place of dynamite.
This certainly needs more attention, I love this pack.
Certainly has made my world look cool. Have you considered designing new items? Also another suggestion, could you make the pumpkin a little more... Blocky? It'll match with the other blocky textures. It looks out of place when next to cobble or Netherrack.

Awesome. I'm really glad someone likes it!
I am considering making new items. First I'm going to skin the boat and minecart, then get to work on items. I'm not sure how fast they will get done, but I definitely plan to do them.
As for the pumpkins, I'm glad you asked. I am not really happy with the current pumpkin textures, so yes, I will redo them.
It's so annoying because Minecraft doesn't use all the folders in a texture pack, I have other texture packs with custom grass foliage and I have to keep switching up bin folders containing different 'default' texture packs because I had to mess with the .jar
That definitely needs to be fixed. I had make a 'Default Texture Pack' since the original default is now yours.

Yeah, it is very annoying. Notch knows about it, too, because right after he introduced texture pack compatibility, he mentioned that he forgot to point to the packs for foliage and grass colors... but still hasn't fixed it. Seems like it should be an easy fix, but who knows.
I'd also like him to fix water and lava. When he does I'll make both of those custom, but I'm not going to bother until they are fixed.
So are you working on the new blocks? Funny that, yesterday I was going to release my texture pack, but now I've got more work to do argh!
Yup, I'll begin updating tomorrow. Shouldn't take too long for the main items, since most are just recolors (wool).
I would have started tonight, but I get out of work late and I had to update my SMP server and test out the new stuff.
Be sure to let me know when your texture pack is done. I want to try it. You seem to be the only fan of my texture pack, so it's the least I can do!
Keep hounding me to update and finish mine. I need the motivation.
I did a quick update tonight, just to get my pack working right with the new Minecraft version. Did all the colored wool, and the dispenser. Tomorrow (given I have the time) I will hopefully get a chance to finish the rest of the new stuff!
Not sure if I should replace the current cake. It actually matches my pack pretty well, heh.
Something weird is going on with my trees now. I'll also work on figuring that out.
I love this, but the download link is broken for me D: (EDIT: Sorry, its working now.) I used this before you included the dye update and I loved it! for you!
BUT. And this is a big but.
I don't like that tiling of the grass. Its rather ugly.
BUT. This is also a big but.
I misread your first post. I shall put those files into the jar, hopefully it will look much nicer after that.
EDIT: nope, still looks terrible as before. I suggest you change it to something a bit more cartoony.

I was considering changing my grass recently, so you may get your wish. I'll experiment with some different looks later tonight, after work.
I might change Glowstone and touch up sandstone too.
It's thismightbeyou here under a new name. I just released my texture pack and I would like you to see it Here.
I'm not entirely shallow and not here just to promote my pack. Don't think I forgot about you!
I'm loving the snow texture and the new grass. A definite keeper. I will also like to see the possible new lightstone, but I like the current one anyway. But I think you've got the terrain.png completed and items and GUI should be next! You're doing great dude.

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement, and it's exactly what I am looking for to motivate me to completely finish out my texture pack.
I think I'm pretty happy with the main terrain.png at this point as well. You are probably right, that it's time to move on to the rest of the stuff. I have experimented a few times with new pickaxe sprites, and it's just so hard to do anything original with so few pixels. Everything ends up looking like a slight variation, rather than a new design. I'll have to keep trying, I guess.
I grabbed your texture pack, and I'm going to give it some time tomorrow. I'll leave some feedback in your thread.
