Hey all,
Welcome to GRIDCRAFT, a 64x64 Tron:Legacy texture pack for Minecraft
Here's a preview:
PICTURED:
-My character, in custom TRON gear =]
-redrawing of Cobblestone, Glass, Dirt and Sand (which you can see through the window)
-New Torches (with new particles)
-old Forge, Workbench, and Chest (THIS IS AN OLDER PICTURE)
-COOLEST THING: The item (DISC) that I am holding is actually a sword
Discs are different colors depending on material they are made of, diamond being the coolest.
NOT PICTURED:
-Bow looks like Diamond Sword
I also changed up the moon and the sun:
UPDATE:
I had to change almost everything because i messed up terrain.png badly. However it gave me a chance to change some stuff. It should be noted that this, as it is based on TRON, is going to have similarities to Soulscribe's texturepack of the same subject. However, I am trying my best to go about the creation of these textures with my only inspiration being the TRON: Legacy Movie.
As such, please feel free to tell me if you see recurring themes and such. I may listen, I may not. This is entirely for me =]. Here's the new textures:
From left to right: TNT and Bookshelf (unfinished), Leaves, Log, Mob Spawner, Solid Diamond Gold and Iron, Rails, Bedrock, Coal Ore, Gravel, Glowstone (unfinished), Redstone Gold and Iron Ores, Diamond Ore, Brick, Stone, Cobblestone Step, Mossy Cobblestone, Dirt, Netherrack, Cobblestone Half Block, Obsidian, Soul Sand (unfinished), Wood Plank, Sand, Torch, Chest (unfinished), Wood and Iron Doors, Workbench (unfinished), Glass, Forge (unfinished), and Lava (unfinished). The Grassy Dirt (which is also the same texture as snowy dirt and Grass) can be seen all around the ground.
Here's what a Tree looks like:
and last but not least: Snow, Water, and Ice:
I gotta find out how to make the sky dark and I'm set.
NEW WORKBENCH:
SPECIAL VEHICLES MOD:
I'm probably going to be beginning a new mod which I'll call SPECIAL VEHICLES PACK and it will include:
-A Motorcycle, which will carry one person only
-A Truck, which can carry two people, has a chest for storing things, and can climb one-brick high obstacles
-A better Boat
-A Bigger boat so more people can get in
-and MAYBE an airplane, but it's a stretch
Here's a little concept work for the bike and truck:
So yeah, let me know what you think.
Also, if anyone would like to help with the Special Vehicles Pack, they are more than welcome to, I have most if not all of the planning done, I just have to sit down and actually code it out and seeing as how my classes are beginning soon, this may not get done ever without someone's help.
NOTE: THE TEXTURE PACK IS NOT V.1.4 COMPATIBLE YET. I SHOULD HAVE TIME TO WORK ON IT DURING THE SUMMER SO, STAY TUNED. ALSO, THE SPECIAL VEHICLES MOD HAS NOT EVEN BEEN BEGUN BECAUSE I HAVE THE DEVIL'S SCHEDULE. AS SUCH, NEITHER ARE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD YET.
ALSO, I'm looking for constructive criticism regarding changes to the styles of blocks, especially the forge and workbench. send me your ideas.
The colors are a bit dull. If you look at the movie, there are bright reds and blues.
Also, try to make it more detailed, some kind of circuit pattern on some blocks would be nice.
yeah i actually lost the terrain.png i was using so, i've updated the colors significantly but
is there a problem with changing the format of the .png t0 512x512? if not, i'll definitely add more detail.
Well normally, what you would do is download the MCPatcher from the link I included, open it up, select 64x64 and click patch since it should already have selected the path of your .minecraft folder. Then you would take the GRIDCRAFT.zip file and put it in the texturepack folder of your .minecraft folder and open minecraft. then go to Mods and Texture Packs and select the GRIDCRAFT file.
HOWEVER:
since I apparently didn't know how to do set everything up right before, the only way to get it to work now is to copy the contents of the extracted GRIDCRAFT folder into the minecraft.jar file in .minecraft/bin.
I wouldn't recommend this as when I do it, it takes me forever and a day to uninstall.
Right now, or rather soon, I am working on trying to get it to work like the first method. However, for some reason minecraft crashes if you open it, select my texture pack, and close it.
If anyone has any idea on how to fix this let me know. Despite my faith in the MCPatcher, I have a strong feeling that something having to do with the 64x64 patching is ruining minecraft's ability to keep up and indeed, several times I have done the patch only to have different outcomes. The only time it has worked is when during the patch, I have selected my texture pack, but this makes it impossible to return to a prior state.
i forsee a slight problem with this pack--it's very dark, so at night and in caves, etc. you would be hard-pressed to see anything (ran into this problem with REZcraft). especially if you manage to darken the sky during the day.
parhaps a mod to make the panels glow faintly (like a jack-o-lantern, but putting out less light) along the 'LED lines' on the panels would help.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Don't mind me, I just pop up from time to time with helpful/annoying advice.

Yeah, unfortunately you're correct. However, I feel like the environment of the dark fits rather nicely with the TRON Legacy world. That doesn't mean i like it though, don't get me wrong. I was thinking actually of assigning that glowing function of the jack-o-lanterns (and stepped-on redstone ore) to the ores only, just to make it rather obvious that there was something there.
It's not exactly finished, and since Notch put out 2 more trees and a cake, I gotta fix those as well so, and seeing as how i'm a full-time student, there won't be a pack available for download till I get a 35day weekend haha.
are you thinking of making lower-resolution versions for those of us who have problems with texture pack loaders and those who just dont handle high resolutions that well anyway? because I would LOVE a copy but even at 32x32 i suffer in performance and 64X64 about renders the game unplayable, I dont even want to THINK about anything above 256X256. :\ and a new computer is just not an option on my budget.

It's looking alright so far.

The special vehicles mod sounds nice though. I'd love to run me some creepers over on a lightbike.
Edit: I don't mid contributing to helping the texture of the vehicles as well.
I feel like there is way too much to do with the Special Vehicles thing for one person.
And having personally gawked at the level of detail in your tron texture, I think we could do wonders =]
