I was messing around with the idea to easily find ores by turning Stone into Glass and asked about how to do so. After not much interest in my idea I fiddled with it myself and came up with Version #1 which failed, crashed and burned. Hard.

The edit which was just a simple copy/paste which I expected to fail led me to dust off and fire up my old program GIMP. In there I used Version #1 and then spawned Version 2. This was a success. Kinda. You couldn't see the ores and it was basically a permanent version of the (Though this kid VASTLY overcomplicated it but the basic idea was right)

After that came Version 3 in which I removed the two scratches in the middle of the glass block so you can see better

Updated to Minecraft 1.7.2.

IMPORTANT:
Remember that this is considered cheating in Multiplayer so ask the admins on the servers you play on if it's okay to use it.

Well I looked for five pages and didn't see anything about it. And I modded the original glass texture a bit but yeah, it's 95-98% the same. And since it's been done so many times has anyone actually managed to literally turn stone into glass so you see all the ores and stuff?

The problem is that when minerals are surrounded on all sides by glass, they are invisible. You can see caves though.

If your going to cheat to find dungeons/ores why not just use the "Too many Items" mod ?

This is one of my ideas that backfired on me. The idea was good but the practise failed miserably so I never actually used it save once or twice. (Love the avatar BTW)
