Mods that have separate texture files are an absolute pain to work with.
What's your image editing suite of choice? I know that Photoshop has "slices" capability that makes splitting an image up into a semi-automated process, so you could keep the original work file joined together but with the splices in-place, then when you need to save it for distribution tell Photoshop to slice it up.
I'm unsure of the options for other softwares such as GIMP (or more alternatives with PS), as it's something I rarely deal in.
The Minecraft community in general isn't about "respecting and caring" either. It largely consists of narcissistic children who disregard those other than themselves and like to spout anger, abuse, troll and flame. It is also why any competent multiplayer builder either owns a private server or one where build allowance requires in-depth vetting. If Minecraft was about "respecting and caring" these measures would clearly not be necessary.

Oh, I don't have a problem converting it!
The problem is that it's a bit tedious to deal with multiple files at once, instead of having them on a sheet.
I was more thinking that you could keep it in sheet form when working on it, but given that new textures are bound to come out and those don't have a pre-set place, I guess that wouldn't work for very long.

That's what I was thinking.
I do know that some ancient utilities like Game Maker have the ability to cut up and sew together sprite sheets.
GIMP certainly seems to have a feature which serves the same purpose as the function for Photoshop that you described.
PS, shouldn't iron tools be cast, too?
Or would that not create a black colour?
Depends on the smith. There are many many methods of smithing something from iron.
Swords and tools made of bronze and iron were often cast in moulds.
Eventually, bronze was eventually overtaken by iron because iron is much much more common, is more versatile, and you didn't have to deal with Phoenicians or Cornish people selling you tin.
The techniques then got better, which tended to make steel, which is vastly superior to both bronze and iron.
(Casting iron won't really produce steel, so you could say that steel is the alternative to cast iron, as many of the methods of processing iron tend to introduce some amount of carbon.)
It's up for debate whether bronze or iron is better; it probably just depends on the purity of the metal and the techniques for tool making.
I'm probably going to make a black iron alternative, but I think it's more plausible for a worked tool to have been made by some other process such as via crucible, which is sort of the purpose that the forge in Minecraft serves.
On the other hand, it's much more likely that the game character would just cast a big block, door, or anvil out of iron.
Armor could probably go either way.
In short: Steel is a little more probable for tools, cast iron is vastly more probable for big pieces of metal.
The customizer doesn't have an option for randomobs anymore? If it was supposed to be included by default, there aren't any alternate textures for mobs in it.
Fixed that; I had attempted to make it only show the textures with alternative options, but that seemed to have made the Aether, Mystic, and Randomobs options disappear.
Seems like something derped, the bright rails texture background is not transparent.
I used the customizer.
Ahh, I think you caught me in the middle of this update; it shouldn't be a problem now.
The fishing rod should also be in order!
I was simple able to move it a bit to the top right and it still fits perfectly in your hand. I also made the reel box more round.
Most of the iron objects are under 'Construction', with the iron block itself being under 'Processed Blocks'.
Certain iron items, with an option between cast iron and steel, are all under the 'Tools and Weapons' category.
This is just the texture pack i was looking for, its a perfect replacement for the 32x32 faithful pack that i have been trying to install (i suck with things like mcpatcher) good job on the design.

Retired StaffYour reasoning is well thought and quite nicely put. I await implementation of any changes! O3O

Bluh, I had forgotten. I can change it in the next update.
Definitely can add that one!

I have now added a complete changelog that includes every update since January 3rd 2011.
In 16 minutes, it will be the third anniversary of this texture pack.
EDIT: Yep! 31 updates in two years. Roughly, that's two updates and a half, per month.

1.5 is going to be SWEET.

Retired StaffI shall use this pack forever as a sign of my appreciation for the fine arts of LYYTI LYYTIA and all things aliased.
Pictured is a wild Luvicat frolicking in the BOAT FIELDS of the land of SUPERFLAT, on the 24th of Cowuary 2013.
All of this is possible only with Xenocontendiâ„¢.
It'll convert your pack from 1.4.6 to 1.5, so you can add the other blocks with ease.
