That lapis... is really gorgeous. Definitely need to find some lapis now and do something with it!
Now that's what I want to hear!
By the way, we are making new wools. Actually, we made the texture already... but all we need is to add color and proper contrast to keep the feel of the texture.
Been getting into Industrial Craft, and loving the potential depth a mod like it adds. Especially when combined with something like Build Craft. I have not put them together myself( requires going too far back in versions for my taste) but it has shown me what mods like this can do to expand engineering wise. As they sit now I think they have a ways to go polish wise, but so does Minecraft itself. So, it's impossible to fault any mods right now since the game is far too dynamic to keep up with and do adequate testing.
Now my point. :smile.gif:
I know there was a poll along the lines of other mods to support, and not sure what came of it. More of a question than a request since I personally think Minecraft and the mods need to come to a more level playing field in terms of completion before any concerns about aesthetics. But have you looked into texturing other metals? In particular I like industrial craft's metals but they somewhat clash with this packs. Just the fact that these are beveled, which I prefer. Things like the machines etc. I don't care about since they are specialized and can change / disappear. The metals (or any other mod that uses real world resources) I would consider static and more worthy of attention.
Again, just curious on your thoughts since it's not something I would consider too logical to request until Minecraft is 'released' and the mods have a chance to catch up.

PS yeah school is kicking my butt too.
A similar understanding exists with Macropolis.fr, whereas the server admin wanted me to texture both IndustrialCraft and BuildCraft... this request was a month or so ago and I wasn't as experienced as I am today to take on such a task at this magnitude... but even then, school and the concern for college have limited my output, but not my attitude towards texturing.
I understand the importance of modding support as well as the demand for it, but the fact that Minecraft itself hasn't been textured completely leaves me deciding what priorities overrule another. But essentially, Minecraft is not as stable as I'd like to have it... pre-releases after another, and servers can barely keep up. Whether or not these pre-releases have effectively served purpose to Mojang, I am not sure. Suspense still builds for the official release, but not in the same way as 1.8 once did. We are jumping from pre-release to pre-release, and I, the texture packer, must be there to provide... and so do modders. When there comes a time that I don't have to worry about pre-releases or quick updates, then I can certainly see a future in Modding Support. Or perhaps, I could make an effort to alternate my focus, at least so there is some development going on within Modding Support.
One mod that I'd like to bring to your attention that has gone too far to my liking... the Aether Mod. It was acceptable back then, when it was overwhelmingly popular, but now its unnecessary. The only good out of this mod when I textured it was that it served as my transitional phase from the Old Coterie to the New Coterie; where I had tried new textures and new techniques for texturing... I had enhanced my ability as a texture artist. But the Aether Mod is no longer an acceptable mod for me... and I have many reasons:
1.)The Aether Mod is a decent mod, but like Terraria (as I have heard from someone before), it gets boring fast. Moreover, the workload is too large just for this one mod that it becomes an inefficient use of time.
2.)Color overlays... they restrict texture packers' ability to give a texture the right color, from Moa eggs to gloves to capes, color overlays destroy the basic elements of what could have been a good, unique texture.
3.)The Aether Mod isn't the best representation of Aether at all, we lack a true Aether... it has gone outside of what could have been a long-lasting mod. Before this mod came out, the Aether was a heavily considered and desired idea which left its mark in the Minecraft community. Many of the suggestions that would have made the Aether Mod more enjoyable were denied for a completely different experience... which seemed good initially, but fails long-term.
4.)The Aether Mod's development team is also, in my brother's opinion, "lazier than what people thought of Notch! They took too many shortcuts. For example, when they said that they 'repurposed the zephyr(the cloud mob)' all they really did was make it a copy of the ghast mob. The idea of the Aether is a poorly done version of the original suggestion found HERE."
So, in terms of development, I should texture the mods that would best enhance or represent the experience of Minecraft... as these mods are as important to texture as is Minecraft itself.
There are people that play only Minecraft, and others that emerge themselves into the Minecraft community through mods. Both are essential for a texture artist, and its about time I fulfill both sides.
Thanks again, I kinda heard ya the first time. :laugh.gif:
Glad you enjoy it! On another note, I personally can't wait to feature the new logo! So many people wear my old logo in the current banners, and this will certainly change... a banner that's not just a symbol for great support, but looks professional too. :wink.gif:
If you are unaware of this new logo... you can find it HERE.
Yep, played Aether and felt the same way. I liked the look but the item / creature balance was whacky, andI liked the new mechanics. Boss battles and unlock conditions, several of the block ideas and functions were cool.
And feel the same way about Terraria, I seemed to 'beat' it over two weekends. There as more stuff to get but based on the wiki they weren't really upgrades.
And same goes for Aether, I got some good gear and then quit. You have to lug around you gear and hope you can make a set before it wears out...and it would wear out FAST. Which made stocking up on regular ole iron more practical. And, I didn't feel blocks from the Aether contributed much to the regular world. Cloud pieces and some re-textured stone. and So it essentially boiled down to me being done.
Industrial craft can be this way (quick to get most stuff) but the power and material requirements slow things down, and it's more along the lines of Legos than RPG. So I think it has more staying power and potential for growth. AND far more optional components, you go to the Aether ... you have to do Aether stuff.
There is just the risk of "stuff" overload, too many people think more is better...not so much when all that 'more' is thrown at you and not optional, and especially if it's poorly balanced.
So I get where you or at, and your plan is as I expected. Kind of a waiting game right now. A lot being added to the game, and plenty of mechanics to balance. In the end I am hoping for some more ore types and some industrial tech(not beyond wind and water though). Cuz right now the game is essentially a race to level ~12 to branch diamond mine, and I want to see more use for the rock layers between. But, this is the Adventure update, which I'm all for...so till this is done I'll toy with mods.
v2.2.1 ---(10/12/2011)
-Added enchanter particles. (I completely forgot!)
-New Lapis block texture! (Its so gorgeous!)
-Enhanced menu buttons.
-Introduced Version Number [T-427] to the title of this pack to indicate Plethora updates, which states for the number of textures capable for customization, rather than taking up space from the title with claims like "over 400+ textures!"
>This will probably increase my download-to-view ratio, which, except for this week, has surpassed nearly all packs with an average ratio of 4 downloads every 7 views.
Hey, update to 1.9pre4! or get master to do an emergency thing...
Also, the lapis block was too saturated, in my opinion, so i optimized it to match the less subtle appearance of the item, as well as the other luxury blocks.
You can have it for the greater good:
Umm, I don't think I can update today, kinda busy. Master, do your thing!
Hmm, about the lapis... you say the lapis is too saturated... I think we can find a balance if others feel the same way, as I think your texture is a bit too dull, nor does it tile as best as it could, however, it does have a decent color tone! If anything, I need to make sure that the texture does not get confused with sapphire. ^^
Notes:
Temporarily replaced Coterie Craft Sun and Moon with default, to comply with new textures
Temporarily replaced Air Portal Blocks to comply with new textures
Noticed that Coterie Craft has been using MANY default textures for Mobs.
Is it possible we can have some alternate Cobblestone textures in Plethora? I don't mind the current texture but I am curious to see how you would make a cobble more similar to the default texture.
