While it's a well written letter, I don't see it happening. He added texture pack support for a reason and since day 1 he's expressed a liking of the default textures. Unless he's entirely smitten by this pack, I can expect "That's why we added texture pack support" as a response. I love this pack don't get me wrong, but I don't see him changing something he's stuck by since MC's start.
Yeah... I see it that way too. Also, we have too many fan-made stuff that uses default. So if a new default comes out, it will obstruct what is already in place and it would be too much of a change for the masses to compensate for... but it should still be an excellent change to improve gameplay.
But I at least want to make this 'New Default' (though not entirely complete) available. At least as a texture pack, as we have currently.

Don't worry, you'll always be my "new default" <3
But seriously, when I get tired of HD packs this is always what I come back to :smile.gif:

The thing I realy like about this texture pack is the stages of wheet which some texture pack's fail to do well. Starts of small like grass going from seeds in dirt with lots of nutrients. Is green and starts to grow and toward the end of its stage drys in the sun and is ready for harvest. :smile.gif:
New GUIs! New GUIs! ^.^ Still my favorite pack just hoping to see New GUIs in the future. Keep on keep'n on.
I know, I know!
But now that summer projects are in my face, I can only focus on so much...
The good news is that I have fixed up some textures for the next update... including lighting up the dirt, adding a slight tone of violet in obsidian, and made wooden planks with a courser grain (but not too much).
Now I just need to add support to CTM and possibly fix the glass texture itself.
Well if you are seeing a smooth orange lava, then yes.
However I believe we can make better lava so my brother is currently developing and testing new lava animations...
If anyone can give me some insight for realistic still lava, that would be great. :cool.gif:
Ok thanks so much. I was afraid my minecraft was screwed up. Dokucraft's lava looks really nice, maybe you could find some way to do something like that?

Actually we have came up with something out of our own design, however it looks too much like Eld so we are still trying to work out all the flaws presently.
We plan to make lava that's not chunky, that's not nacho cheese, but as close as a representation of seamless lava as lava can get! We want lava that's HOT, something that can truly sizzle the hair off a pigman's five o' clock shadow.
But we are still working on it...
At the same time we are also expecting free water from XSSheep, so we'll get all those animations nice an' purdy whenever I can update effeciently. Which reminds me, fire animations are going to be on hold (and possibly other development), until my summer projects are done with.

What I'm worried about is that if Notch does add it, other texture pack artists may think it's favoritism on Notch's part. "HWO DID QUANDARY RIPOFF BCOM NYOO DEFALUT??!11" and stuff will start showing up here.

Yea... that could be a big problem.
Good thing my work isn't finished. And... Notch moved to Google+, so he's not going to get my message from Facebook for some time...
There would also be less texture pack makers knowing that Minecraft is now visually bearable for most.
I thought there was a contest a while back by mojang that whoever won was going to get their texture pack implemented as an official texture pack that would be pre packed into the game. Not instead of default, but with it. Whatever happend to that? and who won? (if anybody did)

They had a texture pack competition but not as a "replacement" kind of thing. I believe Pixeludi won?

It was a contest hosted on Webhallen, a Swedish website (most likely Minecraft related). Whoever won would receive a solid state drive differing from quality to the three winners.
"First place will win a 180 GB OCZ Vertex 2 E SSD signed by Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson as well as a painting signed by Swedish artist Kristoffer Zetterstrand. Estimated retail value comes to $3700 USD. Second and third place winners will receive lesser signed SSDs. All of the SSDs are preloaded with Minecraft."
First place: Pixeludi
Second place: Candycraft
Third place: Eldpack
In actuality, Demichina originally won for first place. But was immediately disqualified when they found out that demichina made edited textures from default and used google images for much of his work. Overall, he didn't make his pack from scratch.
Ironically, the third place winner has receives more attention than any of the higher winners. Candycraft, unfortunately, receives the least attention now. And though I'm only 85% sure, but when Pixeludi won, it seemed like no one cared.
I know that if I am to be entered in a contest like this, I fear that I might be disqualified for basing my work off of Quandary and some off of Painterly. So... I'll try to be as convincing to those guys that I'm NOT a remix pack! Hopefully the Quandary, like snake-skin, will fall off over time into something distinctly better. At least so I can be eligible, because I know my pack has the potential! :cool.gif:
I just hope that I can come up with originality without sacrificing quality, because that is my biggest fear. And by originality, I don't mean glazing it all over someone else' texture (like many of my textures), I need to make it from scratch if I want to be free. None of you deserve to see less quality textures because I decided to be more 'original'.
Though I probably can pull it off... so wish me luck! I at least want to be free from Painterly's grip on me (foliage and GUI menus)! But, for example, how am I going to beat his fern texture (even if I have edited it) that I'm using?!

Curse PremiumNow that's just unfortunate. :/
I'll try to find another way... but I'm not going to settle for a small twitter comment.

Curse PremiumThe order from top to bottom: Default; Current; Future
I'm loving the new lava so far.
Now we just need to animate it properly...
But if you do have any suggestions, please voice them now before I work too hard! :laugh.gif:

Curse PremiumWell I wasn't quite expecting this... nor am I ready for that kind of judgement.
But since you did do that, I guess it could be of some use.
I just don't know what. :tongue.gif:
My content (especially the lava) is not entirely ready to be claimed the New Default.
When I do feel that the New Default is ready I will let you know.
And ph0be will know too. :wink.gif:
Problem is that Minecraft will be released this year... and I'm running out of time if there is a chance that Notch would consider a New Default.
