Another thing, the way the light change works is a little backwards, but that can't be helped. I mean if you are in a dark cave and stand right next to a torch you are going to impair your vision. And if you walk away your vision will slowly get better adjusting to the low light.
But it would be annoying to be suddenly flashed into darkness every time you put a torch down.
Edit: Been trying to do this scientifically and well. Accurate results aren't always pleasing. There pretty much is less than 0 blue in any common flame (need some serious heat). And lava and torch light are really very close hue wise lava being hotter it's just yellowieeier (more orange works too).
I took some averages from black-body radiation graphs (a little calculus for finding an average color and intensity). And the results are...REALLY red and orange. It fits the lava perfectly from afar...but then the reverseness of approaching light sources feels strange. You get close to lava and the world blueifies (patenting these words).
In short I don't like it, because it doesn't work with the light changing system. I might play around more with a more tan color. But seems like something has to give. I liked the cool blue of leaving lit areas, but yeah the blue overlay on reddish light sources is strange. I like the red from afar because it makes lightsources underground look correct, but then when you approach a well lit area it goes blue.
So you either have torch light and lava that appear to have a blue haze from afar and warmer light when you are close, or realistically warm light sources which light 'cools' as you approach them. :/
"The MC Capstone" sounds a bit pretentious, though. I'd just go with "the Capstone pack."
Pretentious... conceited, snobbish, assuming.
Well in some cases that sounds about right, for in the name "The MC Capstone," assumes that this texture pack is the pinnacle, the best, the final piece to Minecraft itself, and in all reality we can't assume everyone is going to think that... for it's still in the works... but at the same time its finished, or at least Beta 1.3 compliant.
In any matter, I will do my best to live up to those expectations which corresponds to my goal... to ultimately improve the gameplay and fervor of Minecraft.
I also like it how the name refers it as something else than the average texture pack, but that may also be too big-headed.
But in any case, I like the name, even if it has some egotistical connotations to it, I feel the name fits just right... sounds good too. XD

We have a lot of reddish light sources, and I know everyone has used them at some point or another. So if you must decide on which color to choose, you might as well go in the middle of it all, or decide on the majority as to how most people spend there time in the dark, out in the wilderness or in caves.
I based my vignette off of what cameramen use in dark places, which is a blue color gel. But to be more accurate, why not spend time in the dark, the moonlight, and know what color comes upon you... or at least I'll try that.
As I can see, dctrjons, you are doing an excellent job, getting closer as to what fits best... good work!

The other side of it is that nobody will actually call it that; I guarantee 90% of the people downloading this will never stop to consider what the word means. Instead you'll see something like the following:
[*:zdp4j6di]The MC's Capstone: A mysterious DJ made this pack. Some people will be convinced it's actually a mod, because it doesn't have "pack" in the name.
[*:zdp4j6di]MC Capstone's Pack: The pack was made by a DJ named Capstone.
[*:zdp4j6di]The McCapstone: Rather than a texture pack, it is now a rare Irish whisky, or perhaps a hamburger.
I don't expect to convince you of anything, by the way. Just hoping to prepare you for the inevitable...

Well, that is pretty convincing in my opinion... but we'll see what happens.
To avoid this, I'd simply mention the full name in the very top of my post. Though if that is not good enough, then I will have to configure the name to a more understandable and memorable fashion. Being if that becomes the case, what would you suggest I should call it, while keeping a sense of prestige?
I would much rather prefer to avoid this situation altogether. It was enough having the Quandary thread be offended by this misleading name, for those who expected the original Quandary.
My opinion is that vingettes* just won't work for everything. I've never noticed a change in atmosphere with it, to be honest; to give it any effect requires a saturation makes it annoying. A real vingette actually is shading on the borders or focal point of an image, not an overlay; maybe do it like that?
*vignette: A small illustration or portrait photograph
vingette: a reduction of an image's brightness or saturation
Words?

Well that corresponds with the original purpose, so I'll try that... I guess.
Awesome pack, but I have a complaint. Dirt and stone REALLY contrast each other, and in my opinion, doesn't look good. I think a darker stone and/or a lighter dirt would look better, but that's just my opinion and I really don't know much about art

The art is all default, no changes, as intended.
The dirt and stone I have not had any problems with, but if I can make them better in any way I can, then I will... in order that the two textures don't conflict as much.
And rather than calling this pack "The MC Capstone" for the next update. I figure that I put aside all assumed prestige with that name, and think of one that is "for the people, by the people." This pack wouldn't be as good as it is if it wasn't for my fellow contributors, so I believe that a name with the justice and overall majority of the people should serve as the proper direction to a more developed texture pack.
I say to you, my friends, what name would you want this pack to be?
EDIT: Though, I guess "The MC Capstone" has been agreed upon, so maybe I'll just leave it at that... :biggrin.gif:
I think your right about the "for the people, by the people" thing. the texture pack has been developed around the fact that nearly all the users of this pack have given feedback and ideas to improve the pack. I can't think of a good name for the pack on the topic right now, and the suggestions in the thesaurus just aren't "in your face" enough. I'll post when an idea comes up.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
They've invented hundreds of useless crap, yet there's still no cure for Minecraft!!!!!!!1

The answer right now would be hypothermia and frostbite, lol.

Curse Premiumlol
I'll go out to the pasture when it's dark, of course. (Partly Cloudy: High 63, Low 44)
Maybe their should be a torch/lava lighting mod... an advanced lighting mod.

Curse PremiumMany thanks! :biggrin.gif:
To be honest the armor models only took two days to make, but even so I'm glad you liked their quality.

Anyways. Keep it. For some reason, Minecraft auto-tones it down.

Curse PremiumBrown clouds? really...
Well I figured keeping the vignette with less intensity should fix the problem... but if there is any other color that can do better I'm all for it!

One of the best ideas you had: keeping the old mob textures! I think that is just great, and you should keep those :biggrin.gif: !

If I am to change the mobs in any way, it will be for the best, including that I keep their iconic facial expression as is.
