I say that we call it the Nobody can decide on what we should do with the vignette, cobblestone, wool, wood, sun, moon, cake, tools, water, mobs, birch, sandstone, workbenches, or grass Texture Pack.
And I just realized that I edited my last post enough to have a full other post containing everything. Hooray, compression!
And here's a thought, with the ModLoader and Grass Fix, is it possible to bring back the seasons? because I think its accomplishable now...
Perhaps. I mean, seasons were always doable. But the problem is that the grasscolour.png/foliagecolour.png still need to be manually updated. So actually changing the seasons will be a problem for people.

May it be that perfection is impossible to achieve, it should always be a goal to get as close to it, with all good sanity when it comes down to it.
You're right. And striving for perfection is good (albeit lofty) goal. However pleasing everyone =/= perfection. That's really what I meant to say.
As for the name...
I plugged Quandary into the Thesaurus and the only decent word that came up was "bound". As in "to be in a bind." It has some other appropriate meanings too, though: "Determined" and "Headed or intending to head in a specified direction."
No, I don't like the new cobblestone. It seems just way too neat for my tastes. For me, the neat, well patterned appearance should be reserved for brick and stone slabs.
My personal favorite would have it being in rough, organic looking shapes (similar to the vanilla cobblestone, but a big less rugged and ugly, if that makes sense). For a good comparison, looking at the standard cobblestone, but with thinner, smoother lines would probably work best. Then again, it could end up looking horrible, but you never know.
As for the problem with the sun, I think that the thing wrong with it is that the sun itself is much more pronounced than the rays around it. It looks very sectioned, instead of being seamless. The same with the moon when I think about it, but not as 'bad' as the sun. Smoothing the edges between the square of the sun and the rays of it would probably work best. That, or...
Yep.
Edit: I made a real picture of what would actually work.
So it's not the best example, but I tried to make it a lot more seamless in the sky, instead of having a block and then the rays from what appear to be behind it. Don't actually use this, it would make me cry.
Oh, and one thing that's bugged me for a while, why does meat look so crazily red? It almost looks bloody. I mean, yeah, it fits in that you're punching a pig to death and then ripping its raw meat from its mangled, bloody corpse, but...maybe make it look a bit more, you know...appetizing?
Edit: 3 words? Simple, lush, flowing (seamless, nothing seems hard edged or jagged)
Picture this... you pour water over flowing lava and cobblestone is made. The problem is.. the cobblestone somehow arranged itself into a brick-like formation (kinda weird...). So what I must do is make a new cobblestone texture that does not only apply to how it is formed, but also looks great with cobblestone structures look. If I am unable to provide such a texture that works well with cobblestone structures, then I am afraid I will not change it... but that's not for sure.
As for the sun, I like the seamless version, so I'll try that, but I'm not sure if that will do enough.
And if bloody meat bothers you... then cook it. :tongue.gif: (but perhaps I can make it a bit more appetizing.)
I also think I should improve the 9 dye sprites, they need more texture!
And here's a thought, with the ModLoader and Grass Fix, is it possible to bring back the seasons? because I think its accomplishable now...

The less complicating the texture pack is, the better. :biggrin.gif:
The name doesn't have to be a synonym to Quandary, as you know. For the name must reflect this texture pack:
A name that defines this in a unique way is a name to remember! We just need to find it... but then again the word "Quandary" never meant anything about "sprucing up" or "improving." It means a "state of perplexity or uncertainty, especially as to what to do; dilemma." (well I guess it could be true considering the state its in, but that's ironic.)
ideal means conforming to an ultimate standard of perfection or excellence; idealistic means of or pertaining to idealists or their theories, pursuing perfection
Oh, and this word is really cool... Capstone: a finishing stone of a structure. the crowning achievement, point, element, or event.
Would anyone like to chain any of these words into a short, but sweet name for a texture pack?
"The Capstone" ... I think that would make a great name. The Captain's Capstone (Cpt. Corn's Capstone). This is more than a texture pack, it's the capstone to Minecraft... if you put it that way.
"▐█ The Capstone (v1.0) [UPD 2/27/2011] BETA 1.3 compliant▐█ "
I think that the new name for the pack should be The Convivial Pack
Convivial meaning happy and peaceful, I thought it would be appropriate as the pack is aiming to show Minecraft in its default stated but at the same time better. And also the fact that Cpt. Corn is constantly creating updates to make everyone happy. Nearly half the posts on this thread have been complaints or "constructive criticism", Cpt. Corn has replied to all and has tried his best to fulfill these posts.
I think the name I have suggested is appropriate. If not it should reflect how much work Cpt. Corn has put into the pack.

They've invented hundreds of useless crap, yet there's still no cure for Minecraft!!!!!!!1
First of all I don't like how the splash screen and menus have had their colors and style changed from the original.
FWIW, I entirely agree. When I first saw these, I was immediately worried. On the original Quandary page it starts off, "The Quandary texture pack for Minecraft is designed to act as a subtle replacement to the original Minecraft textures, not a major overhaul...". Reborn was already looking like a major overhaul, which it is.

The two textures that really made me change back to the default until a suitable update was released would be the wool and cobblestone textures.
The wool was what killed the pack for me, too, oddly enough. Until I found there were other people keeping to the spirit of Quandary, i.e. subtle improvements, I thought I might have to stick with Reborn, but the wool was so off for me that I had to stop using it.
I like "Halcyon" as a name, by the way. Thanks for all your efforts, Cpt. Corn, and don't worry about pleasing everyone. (Which is so obvious, but worth saying. Actually, I'd love to have someone come out and say, "yes, you should attempt to please everyone!"). For now I'll stick with TheLink's or HawkHeart's (haven't really compared the two yet).

Reborn, or whatever it should be called, is an overhaul. And I agree.
And if you don't like the wool, then I'll do my best to improve it. (I try to please the highest majority of people possible.)
As for the name, "Halcyon," I like it! But... it's hard to pronounce/remember. :/
Convivial sounds satisfactory... convivial means fun-loving, but maybe something more memorable...
I really don't know, and I'm afraid I won't update unless there is a name to replace Quandary Reborn. Though I appreciate the effort regardless, so then I might even update if it takes too long.
I have been thinking what it actually is that bothers me with the sun. I like the original square sun and a fake flared sun (like Xaiwaker's) looks ok too.
The combination of a square sun radiating circular flares is what looks wrong to me.
Then maybe a combination of a square sun radiating square flares...
"The Halcyon Texture Pack" has a nice ring to it, anyone agree?
Halcyon:
–adjective
1.
calm; peaceful; tranquil: halcyon weather.
2.
rich; wealthy; prosperous: halcyon times of peace.
3.
happy; joyful; carefree: halcyon days of youth.
4.
of or pertaining to the halcyon or kingfisher.
–noun
5.
a mythical bird, usually identified with the kingfisher, said to breed about the time of the winter solstice in a nest floating on the sea, and to have the power of charming winds and waves into calmness.
6.
any of various kingfishers, especially of the genus Halcyon.
7.
( initial capital letter ) Classical Mythology . Alcyone ( def. 2 ) .
Though I wish I could throw the word "Capstone" in there...
Capstone:
–noun
1.
a finishing stone of a structure.
2.
the crowning achievement, point, element, or event.
"The MC Capstone"?
What do you think is a good name or what do you agree with?
v1.9 ---(2/27/2011)
-Added a new vignette.png
-Fixed sandstone. (for nature's sake)
-Cobblestone and Moss Stone textures were redone. (but they are still brick-like... so this is temporary)
To do List: (main priorities)
-CHANGE THE NAME of the pack.
-Make a better sun.
-Cobblestone, rather than bricks, should be changed to well... cobblestone.
-Re-texture the nine dye standardized dye sprites.
-Finish my Calculus homework. XD
I like this pack, but...
I'm a little torn between the original Quandary pack and this one.
For example, I like the original's wood and chest textures more...
Also, Cpt, I like how your character looks (in the OP screenshots). Any chance I could have it?

First of all, I'm working on a name to replace the old name, Quandary Reborn. It is not as Quandary as it used to be, and so forth there will be a new name to make sure the pack itself isn't misleading to the original Quandary users.
The Axapez standard as well as the critiques of my fellow contributors will work alongside me to shape this texture pack... and if your saying you want the chest textures to look a certain way, then there might as well be a change for the better of all who use this pack.
My character? You mean the ninja skin, correct? Here is the download for it: http://www.minecraftskins.com/save/6017 (it takes a long time scrolling down to get to it)
So, I'm thinking that I should finalize the name: "The Halcyon Texture Pack"
Anyone agree/disagree? I've gone all over the place for some good names, and I could sure use your feedback...
I don't really mind what you call it. It's a texture pack. It's not the name that matters, it's literally what's in it. i understand that the name should describe the pack in general, but name the pack whatever you think best describes it, after all you made it.
