I like the new wood, and the cobblystone you created just now does look okay (At least it isn't bricks anymoar). Even if the wood isn't how you like it, you should add them as alts so if someone like me wants 'em the way they are on default, I get it that way
I see.
Well, I hope to refine the cobblestone to your liking. But, of course, I also want to refine the wood to my liking as well.
With regard to Plethora, I think I will make an effort on updating it on Friday, since I want to finish up the latest graphical and literary installments that I've been working on since yesterday.
And for those who remember the whole "New OP" ordeal... I can tell you now that that was a waste of time. Action does not act on the whim of suggestion, but by action itself! The same also applies to the notion that I should make less promises and more commitments.
Surprisingly enough, I didn't work on the pack today... and I was on a pretty good streak at that. But I did enjoy creating some abstract art in the time when I should have been texturing. Haha, oh well. Everyone needs a break now and then: (and at least its constructive)
Indeed, if it was done on purpose that's a very bad idea. The reason is that your creations in SMP will have a completely different look for other players. And it's very unethical for players who might change their texture packs in the future, everything must be redone if they want to save their old looks.
For me, it was quit unpleasant to change all new wood in my house.
I knew this logic was going to bite me back in the future. I'll try to get this fixed later today.
I like the old wooden planks because it just looks awesome on the floor or other stuff because it looks like its connecting.
Yea, I understand your concern. Which is why I've textured the planks again, hopefully this time I got it right. However, as much as I want to release an update today, I can't. I've been swamped with scholarships, schoolwork, errands, job applications, and the fact that any updates to the pack as of April 1st will probably be seen as a joke.
But for now, while I'm trying to get all this taken care... tell me what you think of these planks:
Then, of course, the former planks as reference:
And, perhaps, the current planks as of v2.4.1: (which I'm not too fond of anymore; be gone with thee!)
And if there is one more thing that I must say... it's that I'm very worried about those who have made creations with the red and dark planks, because I'm going to switch them back as default originally portrayed them to be. Oh man, the transition is going to be like one heck of a troll. :|
Then I also have to update Plethora... blargh... So much to do... so little time.
I like how the new planks are... the old planks with a line. Good job!
umm... you sure?
EDIT: But at least it's not a total loss... since I've just recently integrated all the work I put into making the new plank and formatted to fit the old style, which resulted in a better texture overall:
But then again, there's not much difference with the former texture:
This video sure is helpful in getting the perfect wood color. Haha, I'm such an amateur with GIMP. (so glad I'm learnin' something new; saves so much time!)
(EDIT: wrong video.)
Oak (left) and Birch (right):
That's all for today... I'm looking forward for tomorrow.
...Except for the aforementioned burdens; schoolwork, ect... O.o
This texture is amazing , Defiantly he new default, but it could still be improved... It would seem that all of the Potion ingredients (The stuff on the last page of TMI when in Large GUI) have not changed at all, which would be good to have fixed, and the iron armor needs a bit of work, it looks a bit lifeless, and apart from a few blocks looking a bit Greyish (Could just be my screen) its perfect! Have a Diamond
Oh, I feel ya dude. There is SO much that needs to be redone... XD
I would like to see some sort of combination of 1st and second example. 3rd one is too tacky and doesn't seem as wood at all, some sort of bricks..
Unfortunately there's not much I can do in providing such a combination. It would probably look as if the lines that separate each plank from each other were to look a tad more faded than before, just enough to show that the planks are separated, but not enough depth to make it look it look distinct between the wood's grain.
I say, bring out an improved version of the old style! But if you still think otherwise, I'll make the texture for ya.
Wait, they look mysteriously like the old woods, which I also liked.
Off Redstone Lanterns! For you Cpt. Corn! It would mean loads to me if you considered adding them to Plethora.
Amen to that, brother.
The new wood planks tile far better than the old, in my opinion. You'll see soon enough after I release an update... which will likely consist of wooden planks and redstone... O>O oh, and the cobblestone, I got to do that! Heck, I'll just take the default cobble texture and just refine it to death!
~Gah, Plethora! I have so much to do this week you have no idea! So many projects and tests... then the infamous Me-Book that I got to do during Spring Break.
So... if anyone is up to it, I'd like to have a trustworthy fella to be in charge in updating Plethora. I would give you my username and password so that you can do so... of course, trust is big, but right now... almost anyone with good intentions and satisfactory participation in this thread will do it for me.

I really like the new planks. I love how the new planks are half and half a plank each block, creating a planky feel yet diminishing the fact that it looks brickish.

I could, but I'm not making any textures! XD
On a serious-er note, what would we do exactly? Some people can and some people can't because of the vagueness. Additionally, I could, as long as you explain detailed things on what to do, upload, etc.
Can you add a mirror? Planet Minecraft is too unreliable.
Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone. I was not aware of this previously... but if this happens again, send me a shout-out on Skype. (Skype username: christopher.lape) It would also appear that Planet Minecraft is back online, but I'm not too sure if this will last. We'll see. If I see it failing again, I'll attach a mirror download.
UPDATE!
v2.5.2 ---(4/3/2012)
-Revamped wooden plank textures:
>New texture structure (improved the "feel" and tiling of wood) similar to the old style.
>Color coordinated wooden planks accordingly, as Default originally portrayed. (dark and red planks have swapped into their appropriate texture category)
>Applied new wooden plank textures to their subsidiaries: crafting bench, CTM (bookshelves specifically), and backs of paintings.
>Discovered that jungle wood is similar to that of Durian trees, both in log and plank color. Not like Kapok as some might say, even if they are both emergent trees in the rainforest.
-Redstone dust trails no longer look flat; they got depth!
~I also acknowledge that cobblestone, glowstone lanterns, and sandstone are the main priority in development. That, and Plethora needs to be updated as well.
ENJOY!
Oh, and if anyone could provide a screenshot using the new planks that would be great; I'll feature it at the hosting site.
@Master7432: How now, brown cow? (What do you think of the planks, contrasting with your previous comment?)

Don't take this the wrong way >.< But I really did like the old plank look, it made the wood look smooth, and a better version of the default planks, put now when I went into my single player world, and saw all my wooden structures, I was surprised, and I didn't like it. (This is just my opinion, don't get mad) But, I always thought of this texture pack as a "Smooth Default" I loved it because everything was a less rough version of the normal way minecraft looks. I hope you understand, and I know your busy, just thought I should tell you my opinion.
Besides the wooden planks, keep up the good work

Oh, I'm not mad at all. I'm a little  on my part, simply because I feel like I'm playing tennis on deciding new style or old style.
