Well, as it turns out, I got the whole week off from school, being that they have President's Day combined with some furlough days to make it so--a nine-day break, almost like Spring break!
So, let's see how much I can get done tomorrow, assuming that I'm not doing anything else. :wink.gif:
Alright, development is going strong, stronger than I've seen it in awhile!
Since yesterday, I've came up with the idea of a 'visual checklist' which can be found in a folder within the contents of my pack. Essentially, what it does for me is to simply lay out all the content that default presents me with, with which I explain its purpose in the following readme.txt:
The following content displayed inside this folder is merely
a visual representation as to how much content that needs to
be done--a to-do calendar, if you will. Not so much a written
list.
All content that is present indicates that it has yet to be
textured in the future or has further development that needs
to be done. All pre-existing texture-able content that appears
to have been deleted indicates that it has already been textured.
Note, this visual checklist will not display content from mods
yet, as it is at its beta, core-oriented appearance.
Hope you find this checklist as a convenience of yours!
ENJOY! :biggrin.gif:
Setting this checklist up for myself presents me with a clearer objective, rather than doing texturing here and there. And once it's done, I can mark it off my list with which I can grant myself a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Although, this will probably benefit me more than it could from you, it is available for you to look at, regardless. :wink.gif:
Hey, havent been on in a while, and yeh...... im wearing a rainbow colored hoodie with speakers and a ipod jack made into it, cost me a fortune :tongue.gif:

Better get started on that list captain...and that hoodie should not be used in the rain.
There waterproof speakers..... that why its so much money!

I have researched Kristoffer Zetterstrand's work for 3 or so days during my week off. Zetterstrand, if you don't already know, is the artist behind the paintings found in Minecraft as well as Notch's brother-in-law. And as you can see, these paintings are represented at a higher resolution, but the frames as well as the shading involved around the paintings allows the 16-bit environment to, theoretically, gradually adapt to the change, rather than obstructively implementing 32-bit paintings as it is.
Not only this, but I painstakingly made sure that there was a balance of the iconic Minecraft as well as a refined honor towards Zetterstrand's work.
Of course, you won't be able to enjoy all of these paintings unless I update the customizer (which is a bit out of date, if not, really out of date!), so here's what you will be able to enjoy (and there's no need for an HD patcher despite it's resolution): :happy.gif:
(Note, that the texture behind the actually painting uses only the top-left corner texture of what used to be a 4x4 wooden block texture - now with the artist's face admirably credited in the files.)
This is just one step towards New Default, more is to come. So once I refine the new menu buttons I textured days ago, I'll release an update. :wink.gif:
I don't like this texture pack. >: ( It look so... vannila. It seems like all he did was take the vannila texture and make the dirtier.
That it. You're gettin blown up. ...ssssssSSSSSS... ~BOOOM!~
1.)Since my pack doesn't use adf.ly, I'd normally advise you to remove any links affiliated with adf.ly when redistributing my content, specifically. But, because your pack was 20% cooler, then you can go ahead and use adf.ly... because it has ponies. (No ponies, no adf.ly) :tongue.gif:
2.)Please do attach a noticeable link to my pack, given that you are redistributing my content. I would also advise you do the same for all other elements that you've used in your pack, but that's up to you.
Of course. I have changed the adf.ly to only shrink. Do you want credit inside the texture like in a readme or on the download page? Sorry for my slow response

Preferably on the download page. Most texture artists (or at least a few that I know of) feature a readme inside their work to credit their contributors, but I don't know if anyone really looks inside the pack to make it a worth-while convenience.
And your response is also quite fortunate in its timing, I've been quite alone on this thread lately... or so, it seems that way. :/

Hmm... you do have some validity in your statement.
There are days where I simply don't like my own pack. Most of what I have done is satisfactory in my opinion, and I don't want to settle for that. There is so much there needs to be textured and so much that needs to refined. Of course, the goal is "New Default," but I feel far from it, despite all the work I've put into it. That is, until recently this week.
All of the content that I have worked on this week has given me hope. The new Mojang logo, the new menu buttons, the new paintings, as well as my own visually-based checklist to keep it all organized... even if its not the terrain or sprite-oriented work that is demanded, this is a firm and absolute step towards "New Default." I feel an overall revival in this purpose. So, be it that you may not like my pack... that is alright with me, but given enough time and effort, I want to show you what I can really do. :wink.gif:

I mean, can you at least do something with it? Make it cleaner that the default? Cause when I use it, every single cool thing I've built looks like it has a 2 centimeter grime film on its surface. :sad.gif:

It's been awhile since someone has challenged the dirt texture. But, I'll see what I can do. :wink.gif:

Wait what? No not the dirt block texture its self! LOL :tongue.gif: I meant most of the blocks have a "dirty" or "grimey" look to them and it make it seem as if some greifer just took a big crap all over mah stuff lol.

So you're saying that I should make my textures, including the dirt texture, to be cleaner and generally more eye-appealing when it comes to building, rather than a realistic representation of what may include the grime and sweat of griefers.
Well, when it comes down to it, are you asking for cleaner, fresher dirt or "dirtier" dirt? If I am to remake/refine such a texture, if it hasn't already done so, it must encompass all the biomes seen in Minecraft from the dry deserts to moist rainforests. Essentially, a balance between the "moistness" of the dirt has to be reached.

I've been lurking around this post for a few days, and would just like to give a current opinion on whats going on.
So, in general, we are revamping the term "New Default" into "New Default: The Return", amirite? So, what I thought of doing is to improve that idea, so that we can even further create a better texture pack. The issue is, as previous comments have affirmed, is that not everyone has a taste that is unamious. The result of that was a customizer, but there again, brings problems. As the current issue becomes more complex, the issue may not be why it's so hard, but why it's so easy that makes it hard. My opinion is that our issue is straying from the Path of New Default onto a path where the community is a major part of this.
However, do not that last comment as serious as the rest. The majority of good texture packs have a balance of community and development. We are not nessessarily lacking any of those, but we need to adjust the balance. Cpt. Corn, you have been doing this excellently on keeping this balance, but it strays occasionally from a good balance to an overwhelming side. My goal that I hope on taking is bringing this texuture pack to a different level. Not an overly refined level, but a precise level. Think of this as a bar, with a line in between. That line is our refinement line, as I shall call it, and imagine an arrow above it, pointing perpendicular to the bar. The arrow is generally in the refinement line (With the occasional bump), but in that line, there are even more lines inside of that. I plan on bringing the pricision of our "arrow" to a more centered line without losing all the great things we have already.
Now take this as constructive critisim. It may appear that I am being rude and quite frankly, blunt, but I hope that this opinion will bring some insight to a different angle of Coterie Craft.
I absolutely adore this texture pack, but I feel like bringing this topic up shall revolutionized the pack to a greater standing point.
