Lately these forums seem like a contest of who can make the most memory eating 8192p "realistic" texture pack copy pasted from google images. This doesn't fit Minecraft, nor is it original. Ridiculous resolution does not make a good texture pack, nor will it ever (that's not to say 32 or 64 isn't an improvement, there's a happy medium). Here's an example of a great texture pack: viewtopic.php?t=48884. Glimmar's Steampunk. It's great because it's unique and has it's own personal style. It's handmade, not just some pictures from real life. Realism means nothing in a game where you shear sheep by punching them and magically turn 3 gems and 2 sticks into a pickaxe. So please, stop this ridiculous trend of who's texture pack can devour the most memory and try to make legos look realistic.
NOTE: This is not at all aimed towards good HD texture packs, this is aimed towards the ridiculous ones that are usually lazily slapped together.
Damn straight! You tell 'em, boss...
If people won't play this game your way, then they shouldn't be playing at all!
If people like it and it's a good HD texture pack, I have no problem with it. I'm talking about the overkill 4096p ones that are hastily put together with google images copy pasta and usually don't tile at all, which there seems to be a lot of lately.
I think 64x works out to be the best overall resolution. It's just high-res enough that the individual pixels don't really stand out unless you're standing right next to the block, and low-res enough that most people's computers won't choke.
I too would like to see these ultra-high res texture packs. I have not seen anything over 256 for download. :s

Less complaining, go make a decent HD texture pack yourself if you think the majority is bad (even though they have a large userbase)
This is a terrible argument and I hope you feel bad about it.
Do you need to be a professional movie critic to know when a movie is good or bad? No.
Do you need to be a professional Chief to know when food is good or bad? No.
Do you need to be a professional artist to know when a Texture pack is bad? No.
The packs that I hate most of all are generally the "simple, clean, bright, basic" packs that I keep seeing. You know the one where there's only three or two basic colors with barely any shading at all? I'm talking about these:
How many times do people have to bring up a topic about "super HD" packs? I understand that people don't like it, but making a thread bashing it wont really do anything. People do what they like to do. Let crappy packs be crappy packs. I too dislike packs where it is apparent that it's a straight rip from a stock image, but hey, if people want to do it, let them do it.
None of us said they shouldn't or can't do HD packs, we're just expressing our opinions, however harsh they may be. I suppose if some people don't like that, we could either ignore those people and continue expressing our opinions or just stop completely. What do you think.

I know that, but hey those are my opinions as well. I just think everyone needs to chill about it. Because someone releasing a bad texture pack isn't bad enough to give anyone cancer, so I don't see it effecting anyone. I agree it may be irritating, but this looks more like a rant thread with name dropping than a discussion.

I can agree with you on that, and I don't mean to bash your opinions either, I was asking a genuine question :tongue.gif:

Are you a complete **** when you fail to recocnize that the definition of good is completely subjective, there is a public for said texturepack which you qualify as people with bad taste, the creator in question has put more effort into producing free content and sharing it then the critic seems fit even though he is not entitled to anything.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
You shouldn't give criticism for not making an already good thing better.
You should give criticism for not making a bad thing good.
While you're at it make a thread about "Simple" texture packs.
Anyways, i kind of agree with what you are saying, but just because you don't like something doesn't mean they have to stop making them. I'm sure some people like them.

Honestly, this is like every other game rant thread ever conceived.
People post that they hate such and such in a game and then somebody chimes in that they're tired of having to read those rant threads. It's no different here, if somebody makes a HD texture pack and you only like the LD texture packs, then don't read it, just move on, if people don't like that texture pack it will soon enough disappear from the forums, with the exceptions of those authors of said texture packs that are good at marketing their packs, those have a tendancy to stick around, and take suggestions and improve their quality.
Still, theres nobody twisting our arms to view, or download any texture pack that we don't like, so maybe more of these rant threads are about as useful as a bucket of horse manure.
People want to try to be creative, be that hand drawing a full texture pack or copy/paste other images, so let them, let them.
I made this because I like the look of simple packs, and wanted one drawn by me.
The quote above is taken from somebody's simple texture pack... Note the part in bold. It's none of our business if somebody wants to be creative and make something, they have the opportunity to do so in Minecraft and I thank Notch for that.
Can we just go ahead and change the thread name to Realcraft HD sucks. Honestly this set keeps popping up and it's just one, the only.... the first version had watermarks on the tools on the workbench, yes it's that bad. Please stop lumping the HD sets that actually took effort in with this obvious lack of effort, bad set is bad, it doesn't matter what resolution it would have been at.

The only good thing which comes from them is the joy of watching Minecraft use 7 GB of RAM, but I might be a minority here.
OMG: Post failure x 13 on this post. Mods please fix your forums, they're sucking cow teats lately.

how many times have we seen these? I mean if you're new, I could understand, but can't you make it look like you put SOME kind of effort into this?
