Is there a template, kind of like the char.png template, that has the name of each 16x16 texture in the .png? Some of the textures I have no idea what they are, like those three new stone textures that were added in Beta, should I even bother retexturing those? Then in the top right, there is a solid blue texture and a few others that I don't recognize.
Those "three stone textures" you see are probably Grass, Leaves, and 'fast mode' Leaves. They are gray because the biome color gradients are what determines their color. It has been this way since biomes were added :smile.gif:
The blue square in the top right is a placeholder for the portal animation, like the 'FIRE TEX" is for fire.
Yes, it will mess it up. It overlays the colors from the gradient over the grass/leaves textures, so if you make the grass red for example, you'll end up with a gross brownish green color.
The texture in the very top left corner is grass (the one next to the reeds is clay), the one that looks like glass tinted blue is ice, and I assume the last one you're talking about is the cactus cross-section. Assuming it's the one next to the rest of the cactus, that is :tongue.gif:
I agree it would simplify things to have a template, so that it was easy to tell things apart. I mean using a slow process of changing things and testing the texture pack I'm making I sort of figured most of it out. I also erased the color on grasscolor.png to see if it would stop overlaying a green hue on my colorful grass. I didn't delete the file I just erased it so it was essentially a blank image. I think it seemed to work. I did that with foliagecolor.png too but that didn't seem to work. It would be easy for someone to label all the blocks though, especially since there are color overlays on gray images.
Heck maybe I will start one and let someone finish it or something.
