Originally created for Notch's texture pack competition, but failed to enter due to the OSX client failure on the last day which prevented important final tests. I could not post here about it either due to server load on that evening...
PepBasic has come a long way since those frustrating days of its inception, and continues to receive constant maintenance, though updates are infrequent due to my demand for perfection.
If you post screencaptures using PepBasic, I would appreciate that. Give me some cool or breathtaking scenes and I will even give you credit if you'd like. The best 5 submitters will have their Minecraft usernames included, and/or I will accept a splashes tagline if you have one to offer (and you'll be able to see it assuming it ever works without having to modify the register).
Things To Do:
Create slot.png for Statistics.
Fixing Bed texture (legs don't touch ground.. was this an update thing, or something I overlooked?)
Still working on basic foliage texture (for the umpteenth time!).
Need to complete overhaul of kz.png Painting/Art graphics.
A few item images to create/fix.
At some point, delve into water/lava customs.
Pondering whether a custom snow or cloud texture is worthwhile...
Eventually will revisit health/armor graphics.
Rework redstone repeater texture.
Not a fan of the TNT though, too bright for me. The Redstone is a little to pink, but thats more due to file compression then anything, and the pumpkins seem a little too purple on the bottom, once again, likely due to file compression.
You also uploaded the wrong Items.png. The one in the download has the default armors in it.
Thanks for pointing out the armor. I'll fix that in an update.
The TNT probably should be less vivid. I'll edit that. Thanks!
Yes, I recognize the redstone has a pinkish hue. It's intentional and perhaps boils down to a matter of individual taste.
Not sure what you mean by 'file compression'. There was no color reduction or indexing done. The pumpkin's coloring is intentional and attributable to a technique called hue-shifting, which is used by experienced pixel artists and inspired by, among other things, Korean style illustration and anime. It's purpose is to emulate how the eye perceives light, to expand the depth or color dynamic of an illustration, or to produce the illusion of negative lighting beyond white or black. In the example of the pumpkin, it allows for contrasts without having to resort to adjusting the luminosity alone, which can sometimes overpower the scene with strong contrasts in object outlines or shaded areas. The effect is sometimes over-emphasized for stylization purposes.
Still have more work to do. Will try to add something new with the next update beyond just including the already produced armor.

Thanks for the screenshots. I'll get some of my brother's amazing work in a batch of screenshots for the next version release.

Hey! It's Peppermint Pig! Gil from Pixelation here. I just started playing Minecraft too.
I love the coloring, I'm going to try this out while I wait for BetterLights to be fixed.
And if you're going to do collaborations, I'd love to lend a hand, it's been months since I pushed some pixels :smile.gif:
Hey there! Seems like forever since I've seen you. Yeah, a collaboration sounds like fun. Just have to think of a fun one. I haven't lost my touch (all the technique and color theory is practically hard-coded in my brain, heh), though I hardly do much pixel art nowadays.
Also, here is a sneak peek at the custom art I've been working on.. Some take the original artist's designs and clean them up using pixel art methodology. Others are my own originals.

This is a default style texture pack, rendering at 16x and remaining faithful to the concept of default.

Nice pack by the way, look very neat. It would be fun to do a collab some time
I've only tested the Zombie mob and haven't even seen how well the others came out yet.
A collaboration sounds possible. Thanks WoodPuncher!

I'm looking into the creation of new mobs. I'd love to have some low-poly baddies and goodies running around.
