I finally updated my texture pack for 1.7.3. Right now it's just a terrain tileset, but I might do more in the future. Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions. :biggrin.gif:
I've added it to Minecraft Customizer, so you have some options to play with now. I'll add more in the coming weeks!
I'll get up more screens later, or if people wouldn't mind sharing their screen caps of it here that would be great!
Fun bit of trivia: I did this pack with only 64 colors counting one color for transparency. Though I had to add alphas for the ice and water so it breaks the limit, but still it was fun! I want to do a 16 color or less pack next, perhaps something Bitmap Brothers inspired.
Good work not making it a generic and stereotypical texture pack. I'd be using this one if I wasn't busy gaping in awe at my own creation for the Webhallen competition.
i just registered on these forums exclusively to state my appreciation for this pack, the screenshots look downright GORGEUS
i do wish you used a filehost to download a zip and just drag n' drop it to the textures folder, i'd suggest 4shared which is entirely free and very reliable
also, on a semi-related note, this pack reminds me of Super Mario Bros. 2 very much for whatever reason

Well thanks!
Thank you for the suggestion as well, seems to be a good host for this. :biggrin.gif:
I was looking at tons of old pixel art while working on this, so there's bits of influence from lots of games tucked in. No copies of existing sprites or tiles though! :3

I am in love with that grass/dirt texture!
Although personally, I think the sand would look a bit better with less contrast; it looks a little busy as is, but it still looks great, so I suppose it depends on what kind of look you are going for.
After trying the pack for a few hours i have some feedback, that said, your work is just fine the way it is but there are a few things i'd have tailored to make this a truely flawless pack in my eyes.
While i think the grass/dirt is one of the best features of this pack, the rest of the vegetation could use some work; i like the color choice for the tree logs but those dark lines along them feel somewhat unreal, the leaves themselves are fine but truth be told the best leaves i've seen in any texture pack are in the KabPack by Kabonos, also the flowers (both red and yellow) and the mushrooms (both brown and red) look way too... 2-D when compared to the rest of the sharp-looking world, hardly anyone gets those done right but the PainterlyPack has some really nice plants (bamboo and cactii included, though i like yours as well), also your pumpkins look way better than the default ones, but i do believe the facial expression (carving if you will) of the ones in the KabPack make them look more classy.
As far as minerals go your gravel could use some tweaking, it looks out of place when next to the beautiful sand or normal dirt/grass, and finally the ores, i'm not saying i dislike yours but after seeing the perfect ones in the KabPack i really wish all packs (including vanilla MC) had those.
I'm not saying you should copy n' paste any/all those things into your pack, but i figured you could use some inspiration or at least visual aids to see what i'm talking about.

Yeah, I plan to work on that once I'm back. Originally the sand was much more subtle, but I had to cut some colors to stay within my target limit, now that I have a solid palette I can go back and make it more subtle again.

Thank you for taking the time to give so much input. However, I think this is mostly just going to come to a difference of opinion.
The dark lines on the tree aren't supposed to be realistic, nothing in this pack is. I may or may not change them, but as it currently stands I like them.
I feel the leaves and ores are some of the weakest parts of the KabPack. I just don't like them, sorry. (I really like the saplings in the pack though, they're cute.)
I feel that the plants in the PainterlyPack are very noisy and extremely flat looking, it's always bugged me. I'm happy with my plants, I may tweak them here and there, but I personally feel they look more 3D than the plants of many packs and that there isn't even much room for improvement in that regard without changing them entirely.
Thank you about the pumpkins. Not getting what you mean about the KabPack ones looking classy, just looks like he gave the creeper face eyelashes, which I thought was funny and kind of charming.
My gravel is just a place holder, because I needed something for the competition. It will be completely revamped once I'm back from holiday though.
In the end though: feel free to modify the pack to suit your own needs. :smile.gif:

i figured you would say something like that, still, i thought i'd pitch my views to you, whatever you do though...

PLEASE don't change the sand! both that and the dirt/grass are the best parts of your pack!

If it makes you feel better I'll keep the old version around as a spare tile. :smile.gif: All I'm going to be changing though is the colors, not the look.

Dude, I'm blushing.
But really, this pack and mine are two different styles altogether. I do like your brown mushrooms though. A lot. At least from the screenshot.
BTW, they're not eyelashes on the pumpkins. It's angry eyes. Can't have anyone thinking my pumpkins are sad.

oh good, the look is what makes it special

true, after trying to blend them i was not pleased with the result, though i do wish any and all packs had your stone and ores... or at least my customized painterlypack but for the life of me i have no idea how to edit the terrain.png... or painterly itself[/offtopic]
I'm considering it, but I've been very busy lately, as I'm self employed. I'll have a look at the tilemap for 1.7.3 to see what it takes. Many new tiles have been added since I last touched this though and I'm still not happy with the gravel or the "smooth" stone in my set (some tiles also look ugly when repeating and need to be cleaned up).

Curse PremiumKeep up the good work.
Thank you. Is there anything in particular you're not liking about them, or is it just a generic "not my thing"?

Thanks! Likewise I really like your saplings, they're such cheerful looking sprouts. :biggrin.gif:
