I've gotta say, it's creepy as hell down there with these things floating around. The tendrils seem to writhe, due to transparency and such. Fun times.
Just humming and hawing over little fiddly details, now. I've got all the new mobs done, I think - at least until you loving people point out how many changes I need to make. :tongue.gif:
Items have been touched up in a few places - Slime Balls look a bit more unique, a few of the Powders and Dyes have been tweaked slightly, Beds are more 3D looking, etc.
As for the Terrain file, I'm still wanting to sort out the nether blocks. I like where they're at so far, but I feel like they could all use a bit more... Something. Personality? I mean, the Netherrack is cool and spikey, but boring. As for Soul Sand, it kinda just looks like purple dirt. Should I have little sad faces in it? Or eyeballs? Or something else entirely?
Other than that, it's all lookin' pretty sweet. :3
I'm still trying to figure out the foliage/grass color files, so as to make each biome look how I want it too. I tried to make Birch Trees have yellow leaves, and they instead went more deep grey-blue-green. Hmm. Clearly, I don't understand the file just yet.
Anyways, update's almost here. Keep on your toesies.
Improved both the Soul Sand and Netherrack blocks. Sand now features ghostly faces, keeping in theme with other packs out there, and the rocks are a bit more uniform in colour and tone.
Pig Zombies follow the theme of the overworld shadow monsters, tinted slightly red with yellow eyes, and a sort of carapace helmet thingy. I like them. :smile.gif: (Sorry about the dark picture)
And last, but not least...
Ghasts. I love them. I love the way they look like they squirm. It makes me squee.
- Zombies, Skeletons, Pig Zombies, Creepers, and Ghasts now all follow a similar theme, being shadow elementals of various types. This makes them tougher to spot, tougher to identify, and generally creepier all 'round.
- Terrain File has been updated, including:
-Better tall grass and shrubs.
-Better Netherrack and Soul Sand.
-Better Gravel.
-Tweaked cakes!
-Tweaked Iron and Gold blocks, as well as Diamond, Red Stone, and Lapis Ore blocks.
:Flint and Steel: - Items File has been updated, including:
-New Apples and Golden Apples!
-Better Slime Balls!
-Better Beds and Saddles!
-Tweaked Sugar, Flint + Steel, Flint, and Treasure Cart.
-Tweaked Cactus Green dye.
-Cakes to match the terrain file!
HOLY FREAKING BAT GHASTMAN
They look AWESOME. Can't wait to get blown up by one of those!
Starting to warm up to the shadow mobs idea. Little dubious, though. Can't really tell them apart enough. I guess the white markings need to be more distinct?
Anyways, I like what you did with the Nether. Netherrack looked nice already, but you really improved it by a long shot. Same thing with soulsand. Nice job Jehkoba.
Lol you dun messed it up. You put each file in the alt mobs twice
*Laughs*
I'd wondered how the file size had suddenly jumped 30k without any significant changes.
Fixed, and thanks man. Next update will be a little smaller.

Hehe, cheers, mate.
The mobs are kinda supposed to be difficult to tell apart. I wanted to make them distinctive enough to identify if you looked closely (Zombies have a mouth and thin eyes, skeletons have big eyes and black fangs and carry the bow, creepers have the classic eye/frown combo, etc.) The whole point is to make them look like walking shadows, which are kinda uniform. This is to help give the impression that they're all "On the same team" as it were - demons from some shadowy realm, able to cross over only where darkness is present in this world.
Anyways... Really happy that you like the Nether changes. I'm kinda proud of how it looks now, a bit more interesting all 'round. Lemme know if anything sticks out as needing tweaks, etc. I'm gonna get around to squid eventually.
I hadn't so much forgotten, as not decided. I was originally going to only do monsters that burnt up in sunlight, but creepers kinds break the pattern, and they were the first to swap over.
That said, maybe spiders need to join the gang. Not exactly as they are, but something like it.
Them and slimes and wolves get to be real-world things, rather than shadow monsters. My goal wasn't to make everything some evil elemental, just a few specific things - the more humanoid ones. Also, if we start getting celestial mobs, they could be light elementals or some such. The nether mobs are already somewhat fire-aligned, so... yeah.

Spiders stay as they are.
That does make sense, grouping spiders with animals, and deciding that the animals should remain normal. That said, lava-themed slimes might be interesting.

The only thing with lava themed slimes is they tend to congregate around water. Might be a bit of an odd cross-over. However, water elemental slimes? That's a thought.

Curse PremiumA better shot of the ghasts, showing off their vein structure.
The picture's been touched up a bit so you can see the detail, but just barely.
You just made the nether about ten times more scary. Dear lord.
