I'd like some opinions if at all possible. I've heard from sundry sources that my pack is quite dark. While it honestly doesn't seem that dark to me, and I've been assuming that these people have the gamma turned down on their monitor, or are insistent on mining without torches, I'm open to the idea of making a KabPack Lite with some lighter textures. Should I?
What are you planning on doing with this description?
Yeah, I'm using Mozilla Firefox and I like using the description field for my bookmarks so I can share my links with everyone else. Sorry for the delay. :smile.gif:

I'll have to agree with the people saying that the texture pack is dark, definitely compared to the default one.
Notice how the default texture pack can be easily seen in level 3 lighting.
You can barely see your textures in the same lighting scenario.
Another update. Items of note: Bedrock and obsidian, mining hi-lights, and I've got some rudimentary GUI elements. They're not great, yet, but they're better than default.
Up next, along with refining the GUI, is a review on the workbench. I've never really been happy with it.

yes please! i'm the first one (or i think i was) that asked, with out your wonderful ores, or lava, caves have to be FLOODED with torches to not be blind half the time
also, since you asked for feedback, i've never been crazy about the wooden doors, nor with the actual tone of the wood for that matter, but that's probably because i'm used to seeing a mahogany-esque color on all the packs i use
Workbench got a little sexier, stone got a little lighter, chest got fixed (oops. Cookie for whoever can tell me what was wrong), wooden door... did not change at all. Sorry, I'm rather fond of it. Oh yeah, crafting screen is redone.
btw, have you considered making sand a tad warmer? like so oh and how about something like this for the chests or as an alternative for the workbech and furnace GUIs?
(credit for those screenies goes to Eld, who made that pack)
I'm gonna go out on a limb a bit and say that part of the brightness issue is likely Mac vs PC. A lot of artists probably aren't aware that PCs and Macs use different gamma settings by default.
It wouldn't hurt to make sure the images are using a color profile, so that Java knows how to correct for any gamma differences (or at least I hope Java knows about color profiles).
Apple's website has a good description of gamma, color profiles, and how they affect images.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
Since I am using snow leopard, I have the same gamma settings as your typical windows user. I just think we've got some torch scrooges around. Roughly a quarter of the downloads have been of the lite version though, so there is enough demand for me to keep it.
Yeah, I wish it were there too. But what looks stranger to me is grass that changes with the biome coloring and sides that don't. Someday it will be fixed, and the world will be a happier place.
