SOTC was one of the best games I've played. (Second only to Brutal Legend. I am in love with metal, and a game inspired by the music is awesome.) Anyway, when I saw this title, my heart stopped. And did this deliver! This is great! +10 s!
Has any more work been done to this pack? It's my favorite and I'd love to see it finished.
Yeah yeah I'll get around to it this weekend.
- I need to update it for Beta 1.2 (multicolored colossus fur rumpus partytown woo)
- plus I need to throw in some screenshots of the menus for publicity...
- and I should mess around with armor icons and skins (masks/horns, capes, pants and boots)
Also, for those of you who have tried this pack, would you prefer the current crosshair, or a crosshair more like the Bow & Arrow from ingame?
Sup bro, can I be stealin the hell outta these textures fro my mix pack???????? >:smile.gif:
Fix'd.
The answer is yes.
Please ask permission before stealin' my textures (or anyone else's for that matter, wouldn't want to see you gettin in trouble over stuff like this) :biggrin.gif:
Mostly I just threw all of the 1.2 textures into the mix.
For some textures I kind of edited your preexisting ones, but I think I ended up making a lot of them worse and will probably go back to using your originals.
As far as my own artwork, I made the leather helmet into one of the masks you can unlock, and I made the stone sword look all Colossus-ish. Besides that I wanted Wander's sword to be diamond and Queen's sword to be gold. I think it makes more sense since the Queen's sword is sort of a gimmicky unlocked item and gold weapons are only really there as a gimmick.
btw - I'm not distributing your pack or taking any credit for it or anything like that. personal use only.

- I like your iron, it's pretty damn sexy. I might just end up using that instead of the iron ore that literally looks like **** (that's what raw iron looks like in real life, but yeah :/) I'll probably outline it and noise-ify it a little more. It would be nice to find a way to add rusting here somehow, maybe I'll take inspiration from my diamond ore for that.
- Your sword choices make sense in terms of their role in the game, but not sense in terms of the material they are made of (and they're no longer true to the game's looks!) That said... damn good looking swords. again, I might want to use these. Maybe instead of making the goal of this pack to be "true to SoTC", it could be to make "the best looking pack EVER."
- You recolored Wander's Bow! He has a pink bow! You must embrace his girly-man-ness!
- Augh, you killed my dirt and stone! I'm not that fond of the Lapiz either, the gems are not quite sharp enough. And the flowers? Good idea, but nah. I'll see if I can't work it in somehow.
- My god damned leaves... I could never get them to look quite right.
- I like the first tree edit you made, it looks very mossy. I need to look at the tiling on that again. The second tree edit, kind of nebulous. Definitely needs to be brighter, not darker.
- You darkened my cobblestone! Then again, it's probably time I made that into Sandstone (since I have three other patterns for that stone anyway,) and did something else for cobble, like a brick pattern similar to half tile but more rock-colored.
- I like the mask idea, I was thinking of doing this anyway, having masks and horns for helmets (diamond horns? hmm.)
Do you... want to collab on this? PM me and let's talk.
P.S. Don't worry Dafali, another update is coming this weekend to get it synced with Beta 1.2.
It all started with iron. Personally, the silver-y look was more appealing to me than the rusty look, even though it isn't what iron actually looks like. I tried silver but it was too hard to see against the light-colored stone so I put a black outline on it. I then constantly thought it was coal, so I instead tried to lighten the color of the stone. Long story short, I messed up stone.
As for cobble, I found it difficult to recognize in my inventory, so I darkened it up a bit. That, in turn, made it hard to distinguish from wooden planks, which I then tried to darken as well.
One of my trees is simply a darker shade of your tree, and the other I kind of made with different splotches of paint until it looked okay. I'm not proud of it, but at least my new trees aren't solid green blocks. I made the center of the top-face of logs one pixel wider, since there are more trees it was hard to make a log texture that fit all of them.
As for leaves, I was just curious about how they worked and tried to mess with them. As you can imagine, it was a disaster, so I just copied in the default ones.
I just made a quick bluestone texture so it would appear in-game. It's nothing special and really just a placeholder.
I don't really want to do a full-on collaboration. I might edit a texture here or there in the future for fun, but I don't have the patience or abilities to do a full pack. You can still use any (or none) of my textures if you want. I look forward to your progress.
Alpha 3 is up. Updates include:
- ataraxic's mask for cloth helmet
- new main menu background
- updated GUI for dispenser
- ataraxic's swords (diamond Sword Of Light, gold Queen's Sword, sweet iron sword)
- new pumpkin overlay to match the bequerel pumpkin
- sheep wool is now white (because colorizing is used on the wool model, and it assumes that the wool is white.)
- ataraxic's iron ore
- bookshelves, remade cobblestone,
- beta 1.2 support: sandstone, dyed cloth, lapiz lazuli, good looking note blocks, dispensers, new tree stumps, the rest are copied and pasted from minecraft.jar.
Updated screenshots will come later, I'm kinda busy...
Hello sir! I just wanted to let you know that not only have you inspired me to play a bit of Shadow of the Colossus again, you have also inspired me to attempt spriting once more. Now I have neither the time nor patience to create a fully custom texture pack for myself, but I did try to create a few addons to your pack if you so choose to include them. Here they are.
I pretty much tried to do two things: Create a new set of leaves for you to use and also to create some parts so you can build your own colossus. I used colors from other parts of your pack so they'd blend a bit butttt I think they're either too dark or too light still :/ could use a bit of adjusting I guess.
Anyways the leaves are based off some scans from the artbook album. They look good in-game to be, however I forgot to test the solid ones for fast rendering.
I turned Pumpkins into Colossus eyes so the poor things can see if you build your own. The textures are based off your... music box I think. They work well, but maybe a bit too dark.
I turned Glowstone into the weakpoint sigil. I based that off... Valus' sigil I think. Found an HD picture of Wander stabbing it on google images. It was a bit different from the one you used for Mob Spawners. Anyways I made the Glowstone the Sigil and Pumpkins the eyes so that you can do things such as a Frog without having 6 eyes appearing on both sides.
Finally I attempted making slow sand look like their skin a bit - the same colors as stone, but with a more leathery texture with a bit of mold growing on it.... Didn't succeed as well as I hoped. Oh well.
And here's a mock up:
It WAS a frog...until I built it. It's a fish I guess? You can see that some of the textures look a bit odd next to one another, but it works.
You're free to use any of them if you want! Also free to butcher them into a better existence too :tongue.gif: Personally I like how the eye and Sigil came out.
Hello sir! I just wanted to let you know that not only have you inspired me to play a bit of Shadow of the Colossus again, you have also inspired me to attempt spriting once more...
Whoah, awesome!
Cobblestone: looks more like a wooden crate (because it looks a lot like my dark wood (bow chicka bow wow)) but yeah I like this idea! I think if it were slightly redder it would match half steps.
Leaves: Gorgeous. I never thought to use ferns like that, starting from one corner! I think the alpha map on the non-fast leaves looks a little like noise, and might be better if it just divided up the different leaves in the fern shape. nvm looks like you did that already in the screenshot.
Slowsand: kinda looks like hummus. It's making me hungry. Like the idea though.
Pumpkin: yeah, there's no way that's not going in the pack. With your permission of course.
Glowstone: Looks good but I wish it was more natural-looking. I like Valus' sigil better than mine, because it does a better job of showing off the main features of the sigil, whereas I tried to put way too much detail into too small a space.
You have permission to use and tweak as much as you want :tongue.gif: The normal pumpkin/ Unpowered eye may need some tweaking though. Thinking about it, using that as a helmet would look like you have a giant subwoofer for a head.... Nevermind, that may be awesome :tongue.gif:
Leaves - Yeah I didn't really think of it when I made it due to working on it at like... 400% zoom. Anyways it looked okay in-game so I didn't work on it further.
Cobblestone - Yeah I goofed and made it too purpley. I did want to try and blend it with the half-steps though. I may try something again. It's all dependent on what school allows.
Pumpkin/Colossus eyes - Now that I look at it the half steps work pretty well with the sides of this. I may try to add that lighter edging to the top on the eye part of the block too. The sides were based off... Colossus number 12, Mr. Takes-forever-to-taunt goat Pelagia. Speaking of him, it'd be neat to create something that looked like his glowing direction blocks on his helmet.
Slowsand - Hummus huh? Never thought of that. looking at it tiled that moss looks unnatural anyways. I'm wondering now if I should try just making Slowsand the completely mossy parts and have it blend well with your stone texture, which looks pretty close to Quadratus' skin?
Glowstone/Weaksauce Sigil - The issue with this one is trying to make it work well with surrounding blocks. I could try making it look like it's in a spot of hair, ala the game, but there's now many many choices of hair due to the recent patching. I could play with the edges a bit, make it look more like it's a generic dark gray hair as opposed to carved in stone.
Also, playing a bit of the game with your texture pack brought up a few ideas too, of which I definitely don't have the time:
Pigs - Why not make them colossi as well, with Quadratus' inspired mug, and have it so they drop silver-tailed lizards instead of bacon? The cooked version could be charred lizard on a stick.
The overall idea behind the parts I've made thus far is so you can create your own Colossus of sorts in game - Pumpkin as eyes, Cobblestone made darker to represent their massively plated areas, Half Steps being used as edges or ledge details (Hello Malus' giant dress.), Slowsand as skin of sorts. Looking at it, Dirt with grass growing on it works well and also Stone by itself (Mentioned earlier - Leathery and all). Now I keep looking at your Iron, Gold, and Diamond blocks, as well as the new lapis blue block due to a recent update, and I keep thinking... what if those were made so they could be added as details to Colossus as well? Things like Malus' glowing arm being represented by a band of gold blocks, as an example. I could make a quick mock up of it at some point tomorrow of thursday, but it would take me a bit longer to convert all of them.
The other I was thinking was about the Netherrack - Again, love the design, but it also stands out quite a bit to me in contrast with the more muted and brighter textures in the pack. What if this was played with a bit as well and turned into something that would blend with the stone a bit and look like a scar of sorts in a colossus? Or, in a rather interesting turn of evens, be a key part in a firey colossus. Just some ideas.
what you should do is make a model of the temple in SOTC, maybe a model of the bridge as well, make one of the little save temples, and showcase the textures on those if you can
