1.7 Compatible!
Behold! The ancient civilization of Egypt and the budding city-state republic of Greece! Now the pack includes some Greek accents to build amongst your empire! Perhaps in time I shall expand the Greek element to a stand alone pack, but I cannont give it the attention it deserves at this time, so I have included it in the Glory of Egypt pack and re-branded it "Splendor Of The Ancients", which sounds more grand and imposing anyway. The latest update features Weather! Now the cruel desert sands blast down and choke the Nile and her tributaries forcing animals to a dry and dusty fate...
I also re-did most of the Gui to better suit the theme of the pack, screens can be found on my website so if you don't feel like downloading the whole pack you can just go and see them there instead. The new rails are complete and so are alot of other things that I hadn't gotten around to before, so I consider this to be one of my biggest updates yet. Hope You like it!
Some of these textures are placeholders or Notch's originals, and some I may just change 'because', but rest assured all of them will remain posted or online somewhere because cutting and pasting and chopping up packs to mix-and-match them is half the fun of using texture packs in the first place. Right?
Oh and speaking of different packs, Glimmar has made this 'Steampunk' styled pack and has become one of my favorites almost overnight, which proves that history buffs know a good thing when they see it. Glimmar is also one of the nicest posters I've seen in the community to boot, so be sure and check out the pack right here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=48884
This is very interesting. Certainly inspiring for me since I am also doing a texture pack set in ancient Egypt.
I tend to build my things mainly with smooth stone though, so this pack turns my pyramid complex brown.
Spectacular construction, I love it, and your mod! I love what you're doing with the art and the redstone, Egypt is a rich source of material and there can never be too many Mods to help bring it to life, keep up the good work. As for the brown stone...I loved the 'feel' that it gave to the underground, but after seeing what you built I am tempted to upload an alternative pack with more sandy colored stone for folks like you who like to build with smooth stone, hmm, might just do that. And also I forgot to explain the brown sand...I've been working on the pack for a while and when I made that it was for sand that only occurred near the water (before the Biomes were implemented) so I thought it would be a kind of Nile mud, now with the deserts being spawned as a type of environment I am tempted to change it to something else...maybe grass? For oasis Biomes? Hmm, love to hear feedback :smile.gif:
Hello everyone, I just updated the pack and added an alternate 'Light Smoothstone' variant pack to be more attractive when using smoothstone blocks to build with.
Also...I could not resist the temptation despite the poor logistics of the thing...I changed the sand to grass and the Cactus to bushes (with thorns)...it was just to nice looking to resist...I'll just turn a blind eye when I am smelting grass into glass blocks...(kind of reads the same if you read them fast enough...right?). For me, the aesthetics of the world matter a little more (in this case) than the functionality.
Now players can build lovely gardens for their royal palaces and keep the monsters out with nasty briars. I left the Mud image in the Terrain.png incase anyone liked it more than the grass but I hope the grass is considered an improvement.

But you do have some great stuff going here, like the redstone torch. Maybe I will do something along those lines myself. =)
Nice idea! The Egyptians were very religious and had tons of idols everywhere, might I even suggest doing two different idols? One for off and one for on? then a discreet lever or hidden redstone torch (directly under the floor for example) would allow players to change the decor and expand their options! Just a thought and it's good to here from a fellow texpack modder.
Just updated the pack with some new plants, edited the post with more screens, and the website got a little more in order (that was yesterday but I didn't post because I hadn't finalized the new foliage).
Wow I love it! Especially the hieroglyphic blocks, will definately DL.

Beautiful!
Thanks guys! I'll be updating the pack more frequently now, I've been slacking a little but no more! There are several Gui changes I wish to make as well as the complete replacement of all of Notch's lovingly crafted 16x16's so I'll keep everyone posted with new screens and other pertinent changes.
Take care and I hope you all enjoy the pack!
Heftig
PS: The hieroglyphics are a personal favorite of mine, too. :smile.gif:
As soon as I saw this idea implemented my mind was filled with inspirations of greatness! This is just the beginning of my putting Artwork objects to good use...
Have no need for it now, but maybe when I'm itching to start a more faithful desert save....
Thank you for your compliments! Ah yes...The one major drawback of this pack is that it almost requires a dedicated save file, having bricks around the ceiling and stacked into tall spires would look out of place if they didn't have hieroglyphs chiseled into them! And the Artwork! When they look like carved stone columns and mummified remains they're quite fitting to their surroundings, but when they turn into pixellated smudges they lose their appeal...(not to throw stones at Notch or his artwork, I love vanilla as much as the next guy! ) Anyway I'll be adding more Artwork improvements tomorrow, I'm kinda tired now.
Hello everyone, I just updated the pack with Lava, Water, re-did the Marble texture that I had made (I left the old one in the .png in case you liked it better before). I made the Wool blocks into a red dyed cloth with visible weave pattern, great for carpeted floors or for a shield against the merciless desert sun. I made the Pumpkin into a kind of glowing golden idol of some sort. Haven't changed the Pumpkin Blur image yet because I didn't have time, it may seem a little odd to put an idol on your head anyway, however since Pharaoh is god on earth who can question his divine habits? I also put in a somewhat hasty Mummy Case art object, it looks best (in my opinion) set into the wall, I tried putting it on an outwardly built casket but it didn't look quite right, maybe I'll change it or maybe make a companion case-side art object. Ah well we'll see.
Hope everyone is enjoying the pack so far and I'd love to hear and suggestions or ideas about the Iron, Gold, and Diamond blocks, I'm having a shortage of inspiration for those.
I just noticed a bug in my texture pack, the foliagecolor.png was incorrectly colored so when the pack is selected with Xau's HD Patch it turns all the Trees black...I only discovered this now and have corrected the error, if you have to broken pack either download a new one or you can fix it yourself like this:
1:)Open up the Foliagecolor.png (and the grasscolor.png just in case it is broken too...) inside my pack's .zip file (both of these files are inside the Misc folder) using your favorite image-editing program (mine is Paint.net)
2:)Color the entire image(s) with White.
3:)It's fixed!
NOTE:) If either of these images are not colored completely white, the biomes will ruin the sand and the trees.
Sorry for the mix-up and I hope this clears things up,
Heftig.
New update, added Wood blocks and I enhanced the smooth stone (both light and dark) to give it more 'depth', it looked a little flat to me. I also uploaded some new images to display the red cloth blocks.
Cheers,
Heftig
PS: If anyone preferred the 'flatter' smooth stone let me know and I'll upload them onto the site, if no one wants them I won't bother.
A wonderful texture pack! Loving all the additional work on the paintings etc. You've really done justice to the subject matter and atmosphere of ancient Egypt. Well done. I'll be trying this out for sure.
ps. love the embalmed mummies in the alcoves - great use of the paintings there. :smile.gif:
Glimmar! High praise coming from such an esteemed texture pack artist such as yourself! Allow me to extend to you my thanks as well as my best wishes for you and your pack. And thanks for the bump too, as you might have noticed, most of the posts on this thread are my own hehe. I have more Painting Object in store for future updates, as I get them done I'll post them (but yes so far the mummies are my favorite as well).

Haha! I'm nothing special, Heftig, but I do like the creative/community aspect of Minecraft. That so many people are willing to share their efforts to give other people new possibilities, only reward... a little bit of encouragement! This is what computer gaming should be about and what makes Minecraft pretty unique at the moment...not big business and marketing.
This pack is definately worth bumping, and the paintings as props is what is getting me more excited about Minecraft than any other aspect, and I like what you've done with them for your theme so far. Looking forward to seeing more of those painting props you have in store! :biggrin.gif:
The potential for paintings is sky high in my opinion, I just wish Notch would give us more slots to play with...that and more plants for decoration. The repetitiveness of some textures could easily be ameliorated with more varieties of plants. Just two of my little dreams regarding this epic game.
Keep up the good work, Heftig. :smile.gif:
