Just wanted to say, good job on the update. I love the new wooden armor. Though I would like to see the new gold tools look a little more like they are gold tools.
Also will there be alternate item images to use in the updated items.png?
I'ver got a little problem, and I'm not sure where I should post the question, so I'm doing it here.
I just installed the pack and some trees don't seem to have any texture at all, only color. Am I missing something?
Here is a screen:
Hmm. It's weird that they're like that, you're getting colour, check the terrain.png to make sure that there is actually texture to those blocks, if there isn't, and that's how they look, then it's just because he isn't done updating. But if there is, then something may have gone wrong when you used the HD Texture fix. But yeah.
spent all evening doing misc adjustments based on feedback and other stuff, so I ran out of time to actually prepare a final release D:
so here, have another test build!! far as I'm concerned, what you see here is final. just need to update the credits and get everything else documented.
notable changes:
- furnace/dispenser top matches sides better
- glowstone hopefully better looking
- birch bark texture widened, edges ligher and less pronounced
- dark wood shading adjusted for slight curvature effect
- diamond scythe/hoe now sharper looking
- gold tools no longer have blueish hue on the non-gold bits
If anyone could take some screenshots of the various new blocks ingame using this latest build, it would really help with getting the final release ready. thanks~
make sure you have the most recent files for the wool. mine worked fine. it has the same name as the one posted earlier, so either delete the one from earlier or take not of the new name your browser gives the file.
The redwoods look a bit dark in game to me. I thought the texture was broken until I got really close to it. Another thing I noticed with the dispensers and furnaces is that the groves on top and sides don't quite line up on the left and back edges. it's very subtle, so I don't think it's worth the effort to alter it.
something important for me: you see in the ORE screenshots that the background stone of coal doesn't fit the other orebackgrounds. can you fix that?
in the dark caves you can see the difference much better.
and the musicbox... its great but since the noteblocks there should be a side texture that match the whole block and looks symetric... (watch my temp-texture-set on page 17 (viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=77619&start=480#p2102067)) :biggrin.gif:
what do you mean?
ps. thanks for the old style ore blocks :biggrin.gif: but your right. for building something with the blocks its better they have a simple look
Hmm, here's a few of my opinions on the new changes.
Furnace/dispenser tops: Great change! gotta add that to my remix definately.
Glowstone: Umm..Kinda ew, actually. I had an interesting idea, though. Why not make them look like lanterns so they look great as lamps or street lights.
Redwood: Its...kinda ugly. I mean its better in a way, considering you can tell the difference easier but it..just doesn't fit the pack well, I guess.
Bookshelves: I like them, much better improvement, much more color and less boring, though I like the slightly larger books myself.
Dispenser: Hmm its nice, I just feel it looks more like an arrow trap more than a dispenser which is why I use the other model, though I wish I could find a better one.
Flowers: I like that the flowers fit the color now but for some reason yours look more "Dull" compared to the ones I used, not in a bad way. They just don't look as vibrant I think.
Jukebox: Hmm not bad, I Don't really like the side texture but the top is an improvement. I still prefer the older design but its not a bad change, persay.
Workbench: I like the side texture better than the other one, though I hate the fact that the side textures don't alternate, so its two on the same corner.
Other than that all of the other changes and new additions seem perfectly fine by me.
To be honest, I'm not so fond about the dye icons in the items.png. They don't look so unique from eachother, since most of them are on pieces of cloth (?) and are the same icons, only with different colors. I'd switch them around with Danscottbrown's, but I'm too lazy.
Just my input there, but otherwise, it's a fantastic texture pack! You get better with every release.
I will check links after I post this, and go searching for a redwood tree. let me know if there are any other screen shot's you'd like.
Thanks! Only other thing I'd still like to see is how the lightstone looks in the nether.

Good catch, should be easy enough to fix.

I think I see what you're talking about. Might just need to soften the texture slightly in a few places.

I would use a more lantern-like texture, but having perfectly formed lanterns growing like stalactites in Hell just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Yeah, it's a bit busy, I agree. No wood is THAT knotty. I might mess around with it a little tonight. I definitely prefer it to just using a darkened version of the regular wood texture, though.

The rosebush a bit darker green, taken straight from the latest version of johnsmith's. I'll see if lightening it up a bit makes sense.

Agreed!!

can you plz add wildgrass hope i'm not asking too much
It's already included, but because wildgrass now has modloader support, the grass textures aren't in terrain.png anymore. You will need to copy the wildGrass folder out of GERUDOKU.zip and copy it into your minecraft.jar

I went back and forth on those, but eventually I decided that the dyes really shouldn't look unique. Once you craft them from their component materials (bones, roses, etc) you've essentially rendered them down into powder/paste. Think of them like paints on a canvas. At that point you don't need to see the mortar and pestle, just the blobs of color you get out of it (the cloth backing is there so you don't get your hands dirty :wink.gif:
The only dyes with unique shapes are ones that have natural sources and aren't ground up (inksacs, coco beans, lapis lazuli). No idea how you're supposed to dye cloth with a rock (rubbing really hard??) but that's how it works in game, so that's how it's represented in the items.

wheres the update? he said it would be up almost 3 weeks ago
Sorry, looks like it's never coming now. I haven't posted in this forum for weeks and I definitely haven't posted updated versions on the past several pages.
Thank you for your work on this man. I recently discovered Minecraft via a PCGamer article and am friggen hooked, largely do to this wicked good texture pack. Frick all the little impatient buggers, expect the ones who are actually contributing something. Folks like you elevate this game to a whole new level. Thanks and keep up the good work!
If you mean the chainmail, it was dusty.. he stopped halfway through when he realized chainmail wasn't actually in the game
Also will there be alternate item images to use in the updated items.png?
Aww /facepalm....no, we totaly added them to mob drops on our server :[
allwell lol
So full of WIN! (^_^)b
