Excellent, new version. New texture packs to play with are a highlight of minecraft for me.
First impressions:
Likes: New icons for buckets, bows, feathers, arrows, coal; background for the menu before loading world.
Dislikes: the new leather background to the inventory etc.; not sure I like the new smoke from the torches, but I think I quite like the new 'smoke' that mobs make when they die - they make a nice pairing so kind of a wash overall.
Bugs: bluish vertical line on right edge of unmined redstone. I'm using non-custom for water and lava setting during the HD patch process. Based on your last comment, is this still correct?
Overall, imo an improvement, but that leather is almost as bad as that 'flower' glass you had a couple of versions ago :tongue.gif:.

Thanks Sofa, always good to get your reviews!
Smoke:
I'm with you on the smoke. It's Ok in some uses, others not so much. I think it may be too round. What do you think giving it a round bumpy shape like a puffy cloud would do? Also, since I have a lot more pixels to play with than the original I may have a method to introduce simi-transparency to it. That's not allowed, but I have an idea I'm going to test. I think the solidity of it is one of the things I don't care for.
Leather gui:
I'm torn. I like the look I had before release. Half as dark and half as saturated. Like really old faux-leather Bingo cards with the slide-able red squares if you've ever seen one of those, or a hand stitched unfinished wallet you'd make at boy scout camp.
But it didn't work with light items. At the last minute I changed it to this version and I stopped losing my wooden tools. But It's certainly not what I wanted. I'll keep versioning this and hopefully it will come around. If not, then I'll have to re-think the whole gui design. :sad.gif: Suggestions are welcomed.
Redstone ore bug:
Sounds like mask degradation. Checking... Yep. Good eye! I'm not sure what part of my process causes that but I sometimes lose opacity on the outermost pixels of masks. I'll fix it and keep an eye out for that in the future.
Water and Lava:
Well, with the lava screw-up you're probably better off without the custom versions. But I can't stand not to have my water! I'm really quite proud of it. Even if the still water doesn't move at all yet. I'm working on that. And the Lava is also quite nice IMO though not perfect yet. When I get those issues fixed I'd suggest ticking all the options on the patcher and manually installing all the custom water and lava files.
Items:
I'm glad you like some of them! If you find any issues with some of them please let me know. THey're almost all untested, but I have a pretty solid process for making them now.
I have snowball and cooked fish to go before I'm down to the tools and armor. Tools are fun to do and I'm looking forward to finishing those up. Armor I have no ideas for yet. So I'm putting them off until I do. Please give me suggestions if you have any. I'd like to stick with the "believably craft-able" theme, but I'm open to anything.
No opinions about the nether block changes? No defense of the old pumpkin? I'm surprised! Do you, like me, not visit the nether world very much? Have you found and pumpkins yet? I really need another opinion on the new copper lantern. I like it too much to make a real judgement about it. :smile.gif:

Really? It's imperfect, but I rather like it. The shape of the rock surrounding it is the part I'm least satisfied with.
Can you be more specific about what you dislike? Color? Pattern? Rock embedding? Let me know what you don't like about it and I'll take another look at it.
EDIT: BTW Sofa, If you installed the way I suggest in the instructions ( don't pick a texPack in the patcher ) then you can just delete the gui files from the pack to get the originals back.< inventoy.png, crafting.png and gui.png >.
Only thing i think needs work is the red stone from the nether, because well its not red xD and the slow block i think it would look better if it was darker.
Everthing else looks awesome cant wait for the HD tools
Keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot PIKPOWER! It's nice to hear!
I decided that I don't spend enough time in the nether to keep those blocks as ghastly as they were for down there. And I needed more styles of blocks to build with. It's new in this version, and may not stay that way in future versions. But, good news! Those blocks you want are available in v.2.5! In order to get them, you can modify the current download link to the appropriate earlier version number.
So, right click the DL link, choose "copy link location," paste that in the URL space, modify it from blahblahblah_2_6.zip to blahblahblah_2_5.zip and you'll download the 2.5 version.
If you want to preview it first you can do the same thing with the preview image of the terrain.png. click it to open it in a new window, modify the URL and hit enter to see those blocks in the preview terrain.jpg.
Here's a question for users of this pack to answer.
Should I provide previous versions of blocks in an otherwise transparent terrain.png-sized file? This would make it easy to drop on top of the current terrain.png and replace a current version block with any earlier version.
Or is it simple enough for most of you to just edit a previous version of the terrain file and paste it into the newer version if you decide that you want to mix elements of different versions?
This is one of the best Texture packs, the only thing that can be better are the flowers! :biggrin.gif:
Jelle1137
Do you mean the new plants, or the old flowers Jelle?
I know the new plants need work, particularly the wild grass. I like the shape, but the color is crazy in-game. That will get fixed next version along with the lava madness. Expect that version soon.
The wild grass is very cool, but I mean the normal flowers, make it more like wild grass :biggrin.gif:,, and can you change the texture of water a little bit darker?, and the still water is weird,, it doesn't move xD
Jelle1137
(do you have seen the logo?)
Ah, yes the flowers could stand to be better, well at least the rose. It alwa6ys looked a bit cell-shaded to me for some reason.
I'm still working on the still water. I want it to wave up and down, but I haven't got it right yet. The static version is better than the bad ones, so that's why I included it. At least it matches the flowing water.
Smoke:

Got a bit of time to write some more if you're interested.
I think my main problem with the smoke and monster death clouds (and redstone puffs when you are mining it) is that they are fine in and of themselves, but I don't think they fit with the tone of the rest of the theme. They have a 'cartoony' feel to them, whereas most of the terrain and new items are very 'sharp', well-defined. Same feeling with the leather - doesn't match the crisp, focused edges of the background. It's almost as if there are two styles at work here, some items on the older, 'tighter' theme and things like the smoke on the new one. Take this with a pinch of salt though, as this explanation doesn't feel quite correct in what I'm feeling. p.s. I prefer the older theme if you hadn't guessed. Example would be Torchlight vs Diablo. Both essentially the same game, but very different visuals.
New gold and iron ingots: love the iron, not so much the gold. I've always liked the colour of the old gold, even in the original texture. Speaking of which, I'm not keen on the compressed gold here (sorry to compare, but I love the Arid equivalent with the swirly lines, which is the pack I built this under):
I autobalanced to bring out the detail of the water - is this the original water or yours? I thought this was the original as I always unchecked the custom water flow box in the patcher, but when I tested and checked it, the water looked similar to the original 16x texture. Probably me not understanding what is happening in that patcher.
Has the sky been changed. Looks much cloudier these days:
I like the summer feel during the day - too cold and depressing where I live atm :biggrin.gif:
New coal, clay, redstone and diamond (seems like they have a common, new shape now, unlike the iron which is still a rotating square): I like them, except clay doesn't seem to really work for the new shape. You could change iron to the new shape to keep things consistent?
I like the new carts and furnaces.
Nether blocks - slow dirt is a big improvement and I like the bloodstone except it's not very bloody any more :wink.gif:. Much brighter too it seems. So, old bloodstone fits the theme a bit better, but new one is nicer to work with and look at. I haven't got any pumpkins around to check - I've never liked them as I rather dislike holiday-themed anything. What's the copper lanterns you're mentioning; I'm getting a complete blank on what you are referring to.
Got a bit of time to write some more if you're interested.
Always!

I didn't intend them to be cartoony. I made them highly detailed little 3-d clouds. The game flattens them out into little disks for most things. I have a possible solution to test...

Good thing you can mix and match because I disagree with you on this one. I love the gold blocks for decorating highlights. Have them around the door to my main mine and such. I'm pretty sure I won't be adding any trim or embelishments, but after I finish the pack and can review it all I may change my mind. It's happened before.

That's default water. Look at the waterfaall in the first post shots to see mine.

It is new! It has clear areas, small spread out cloud areas, light gray areas and dark storm cloud areas. I should offer variations. I understand about the weather. Kind depressing sometime and you shouldn't have to have that in the game too.

Iron ( when mined ) is just the ore block sized down. Doesn't become an item ( iron bar ) until refined in a furnace. The iron bar has been done.

Thanks, They're only half done. Will be completed soon though.

Yeah, I just don't care about the Nether I guess. I just need more regular world blocks for building! I wish Notch would add more regular blocks. These bloodstone/now fieldstone are dangerous because they're flammable! I do like the new mud a lot! It looks very wet and gooey.

They are copper boxes with filigree cut out areas. Pop a torch in them and they make great lanterns.
I've just tried your pack and I really like it. To add criticism to my comment I would stay that I have some trouble with the simple stone (it's really grey) and I would enjoy a more red brick (maybe like the one of the town Toulouse)
Anyway I really like what you did :smile.gif:
Thanks DLTSMan! It really is nice to hear from people that are enjoying it! It still has a lot of work to be done on it, tools, armor, and mobs haven't been done yet. But when I've completed it I will likely do a full review and offer the most requested alternates. There are some that I'd like myself, but I'm trying to stay focused on completing it first or else I could stall out and never get done.
But please share any suggestions you have! What would you like to see done to the Rock block for instance. The brick suggestion is just what I love to get! And if there are any game-breaking issues let me know right away. I try to fix those asap! upwards-flowing and crazy lava are on my list for today ( hangs head in shame ) and gravel is just about to make the list for being too noisy to tolerate.
Thanks for taking the time to try Sanguine and for coming back to comment!
Thanks programmer111! I am just banging the items out rather than creating a proper pre-masked templete. That's how I managed to drop a pixel of four there. And then, sitting here thinking about it, I remembered that I created an items.png template for someone weeks ago and shared it on my templates post. Man, I feel really dumb right now.
Anyway, thanks for catching that. I'll fix it for the next release and I should have v.2.7 out tomorrow. I already fixed the up-flowing lave, the still water being absolutely still, still lava isn't crazy any more. I have the new smoke in there too. There are probably some more changes, but I can't recall them right now.
Attention: If you downloaded Sanguine v.2.7 between posting the update and 5PM Nov 26th ( < 2 hrs. ). You have an experimental rock texture! You can re-download the pack to get the original rock texture.
Thanks for 2.7
I like the new smoke, better than the last one for sure.
The GUI is an improvement too, I think. Though the inventory and workbench still has the leather.
However, all of your custom items (arrows, buckets etc) now have a white line surrounding them - doesn't look good.
I can't get the custom water or lava working yet - whenever I run the latest iteration of the HD patcher (just on the minecraft.jar, no textures selected) the water is 16x16.
Thanks for 2.7

Sofa,
I think the smoke will do to let me move on to finish the inital re-texturing through the rest of the files. It's an interesting technique. I wish I could just get translucency, but at least this smoke layers and doesn't look cartoony.
Tell me what you really think! What do you think about the stone buttons?
You'll be very happy to know I put down the laptop where I was editing the crafting panel to respond. Inventory is done. But you'll be worried when I tell you they'er still leather. I'm going to keep working on this for a revision or two and see if I can't make it sing. If I had to compare the new versions to the old I'd say the old was a 2 or three and these are a 7 or 8. Not perfect, but waaaay better. And I'm not done with em.
What's this with the items having... oooohhhh ****. I think I saved them as png 8. That would cause something like a white ringing. I know they don't have it in the psd because I checked them against black and white backgrounds. If that's it then I'll do a quick update to replace them. I guess I'll have to version it. I can't keep cheating like I did with the emergency rock texture fix.
Edit: Yes. That was the problem. That's good. No actual issue with the textures. It's fixed. I'll upload an update with the fix and perhaps new gui panels shortly.
I have heard so many people saying they're having problems with the patcher and texture pack authors even telling people to un-tick both custom water and custom lava.
I do the same thing every update and I have never once had a single black screen or other issue patching to HD. Here's what I do.
Move my entire .minecraft folder to a dropbox folder just in case I ever want to play that pre-patched and fully-functioning version again. I rename it with the version number.
Run minecraft. Let it DL everything fresh.
Copy the entire fresh install to the dropbox folder. Rename it with the version number. This is my archived un-patched copy of that version.
Run the latest MCPatcher
check the source is a just created backup ( mcpatcher makes this itself on run )
Set the output to the minecraft.jar file if it's not already.
DO NOT pick any texture pack at all. ( I think this is the crucial difference in what I do. )
set it to 1288128
tick everything on
patch.
quit MC Patcher
test run minecraft. Always works. <knocks on wood>
Open the minecraft.jar with WinRAR add the 4 custom_x_y.png files, the items.png and dial.png
close the minecraft.jar
test run minecraft. Check lava and water. Always works. <again with the wood knocking>
Have you tried it that way? Maybe it will do the trick for you too.
If it does, just know the waters and lavas are good, better than before, but still need polish.
thank you update sanguine!
but now items.png is default?
items.png is re-textured and is definitely included. I'm trying to imagine why it wouldn't show up for you. I don't really know, but I can suggest an easy solution.
Open the minecraft.jar with WinRAR.
Open the Sanguine.zip with WinRAR.
Drag sanguine/gui/items.png to the minecraft.jar/gui/ folder.
Close both windows.
This will ensure two things. You will get the items to appear, and the watch will use the new texture. For some reason the watch texture from texturePack.zip files is not used.
I'll test the standard installation method and see if it works here. I always manually install the custom_x_y.png, items.png and dial.png because of this watch issue, and I honestly haven't tried the standard installation method with this version. Which reminds me that I should update the installation instructions to include references to the items and dial.
Let me know if this fix doesn't resolve your problem progamer111.
By the way. Sofa pointed out that the v.2.7 items.png has a white ring around the items. This file was saved incorrectly and I'm about to upload a new version of Sanguine to resolve this and replace more gui elements. I have new panels for inventory, crafting containers, and a tweak for the buttons. And I finally finished the icons.png last night.
First impressions:

We'll have to wait for an update to Xau's HD texture patcher before any HD packs will properly work again.
I suggest that anyone who doesn't play SMP always leave the password blank and play offline. That way a random update doesn't ruin your day.
Opinions?
Oh! Splashes! I have splashes re-textured. See...
Attention: If you downloaded Sanguine v.2.7 between posting the update and 5PM Nov 26th ( < 2 hrs. ). You have an experimental rock texture! You can re-download the pack to get the original rock texture.
Sofa,
I think the smoke will do to let me move on to finish the inital re-texturing through the rest of the files.
Run the latest MCPatcher
check the source is a just created backup ( mcpatcher makes this itself on run )
test run minecraft. Always works. <knocks on wood>Set the output to the minecraft.jar file if it's not already.
DO NOT pick any texture pack at all. ( I think this is the crucial difference in what I do. )
set it to 1288128
tick everything on
patch.
quit MC Patcher
Open the minecraft.jar with WinRAR
add the 4 custom_x_y.png files, the items.png and dial.png
close the minecraft.jar
test run minecraft. Check lava and water. Always works. <again with the wood knocking>
Have you tried it that way? Maybe it will do the trick for you too.
If it does, just know the waters and lavas are good, better than before, but still need polish.
Thanks for keeping me straight.
but now items.png is default?
items.png is re-textured and is definitely included.
