Beautiful texture (thank you!!) pack but I wonder is anyone doing a 16x16 or 32x32 version of this? My crappier travel laptop can't handle the 64x64 version
Well hell... All that work after I got back from vacation for nothing. I was going to update today for last week's snapshot and just add any new textures that were introduced in today's snapshot. But Mojang's decided to utterly destroy the living hell out of my current texture pack with the new texture pack format (even after using their conversion tool). Their high-res texture support is currently pretty atrocious and inefficient. Despite breaking terrain.png into a bunch of separate files, they're still stitched to an fake terrain.png before being broken up again... Why? I have no damn clue. But it makes this new format seem 100% pointless. And over that it's pretty much destroyed my texture pack in its last, good, working state.
So yeah, now I dunno what I'm going to do...
I can do one of the following:
1) Assemble an update for last week's snashot and release it today to be met with a lot of confusion with people trying to run it on today's snapshot.
2) Release no update to be met with people asking me to update for the one particle that's missing from fireworks or for the last snapshot that they're still running.
3) Attempt to adapt my pack to the new format and release a mess of a texture pack that looks worse than it did in 2009.
4) Acknowledge that I had a good run for three years and just call it quits.
There's probably some other options, but I'm too irritated and baffled by the current situation to think of them... Thanks Mojang.
I suppose you wait for Kahr to update MCPatcher for the new snapshot/texture pack format. Afterwards you can put your pack together in a working way.
And in the meantime you could make a screenshot of the new textures to show us what we don't have because of this snapshot
I've been talking with him this morning. He's also a bit annoyed by the situation at the moment. Without speaking too much on his behalf, it's probably safe to say that 1.5 will likely be a bumpy ride for MCPatcher as well.
Also screens probably wouldn't do much justice to all the animations I've recently made. And I may have to rethink some of the designs I used for Nether Quartz given the secondary, aesthetic use they've received this snapshot. For the moment I'm probably just going to take a day off from working on the pack and wait things out a bit before deciding what actions to take. I'll be a little active here though since I've been pretty inactive on the forums from that trip I was on.

I had no idea the change was that bad. Of course I didn't expect it to be a walk in the park either :/
All I have to say is do anything but #4, please do not quit! You have the nicest looking pack out there with all the animations, random mobs, connected textures, and whatnot.

I really hope you do not choose option 4. Seeing as how Mojang is shooting for Feb.-Mar. for full release (give or take), option's 1 or 2 (which you could put a brief explanation in the title and the very top of the 1st post) could work for now and take your time getting the whole thing ready for full release of 1.5 (If I have to use the snapshot on the server I play on, I'll live with default textures for now). Anyone who truly loves this texture pack should understand and be patient. Your texture pack is the ONLY one I see with a lava bucket & diamond when I scroll through looking for the latest post.
(I see you just posted...)
(and my pizza just got here )
great chance to catch up from your vacation/sick time... that's some good news.
I already said I'm just gonna sit this one out today and wait to see what happens. As far as option number 4 goes. That's more of a last resort.
I'm thinking about running my Tinychat again just for today instead of being super active in the forums. It's a lot easier for me to pay attention when there's a 'blip sound' actively grabbing my attention instead of sitting around waiting to refresh. It's also easier to communicate in real time instead of just making occasional posts here and there that may get overlooked. So yeah, if you have any questions you wanted to ask me, now would be a good chance for that. Originally I used this chat as a daily tech support for well over a year. Just know, I won't be doing much tech support in it today. It'll just be a general hangout and place to discuss the texture pack or whatever. Anyone can stream video if they like as well, and I may do some streaming myself if I've something worth streaming.
If you wanna chat or stream or whatever, hop on over at: http://tinychat.com/misas64x64 (no sign-up required, just log in as a guest, pick a name and start chatting.)
I'll still refresh the forums from time to time though. To ensure everyone reading this thread sees the link, when you make a response post, please quote this post from time to time.

Is it really a surprise to you that Mojang decided to do something the worst possible way they could imagine? I knew this was going to happen as soon as they promised HD texture support, they should have just left it alone. All this ends in is more work for the texture pack authors and a lot more work for Kahr to fix what Mojang effectively broke.
I say if you aren't having fun with the game or making your pack anymore, then maybe quitting is a serious option to consider. I love your pack and would probably end up stuck with the default textures without it, but I'm not going to ask you to do something you don't enjoy so I have a good looking Minecraft.
Hai Misa. 'Tis a shame 13w02a doesn't automagically convert TPs to the new format like DB said it would
I do my own remix pack (very edited version of john smith) and now I've gotta convert it manually, along with update it with the new stuff (I really can't make a good quartz/marble texture)
good luck
I don't understand why Mojang didn't just use MCpatcher's methods or OptiFine's methods. There were already working solutions. Did they even talk to Kahr or sp614x?
Not sure if you already explored this option and if you did if it worked but dinnerbone made a converter tool for the textures. it maaay not work because of 64x but i know for 32 and 16 it works perfect for converting the terrain and items into snapshot compatible textures. again i said i don't know if it works for 64x, and if someone already mentioned this already cool for them just giving ideas to help since it REEEEAAALLY helped me. heres the link for his twitter post that released it https://twitter.com/...796115647561728
and heres a link to a post by someone else on the forum about his post giving the same links here
Tinychat's Closed now. To all those who were on, it's been fun. I'll try to open it up a bit more often in the future. I just can't go back to that daily 12-hour tech support stuff. It was killing me
After a bit of discussion on the topic, I've decided that tomorrow I'll likely be putting out an update of my progress before this most recent snapshot. It'll cover everything up to the 13w01b snapshot. Then I'll be waiting things out as Kahr goes through the new code and will attempt to adapt my pack as soon as he's got something stable for us to work with. This will likely be the last update that is backwards compatible with previous versions of Minecraft. As a result, I'll likely keep it's link up alongside any future versions of the pack that use the new format.
the new format is interesting. Having separate files makes it easier to fill in a missing texture with the default instead of having it blank (though that does remove the possibility of having it say "get the newest pack!"). In general though I like that new behavior better. It stitches it up again on loading I assume it has fewer textures hanging around, and also so they don't have to change too much of the block code (that gets fed an ID and translates that to the proper section of terrain.png to use).
It will obviously be a big shakeup for Kahr (and for me and my minimap) but it shouldn't be too bad. I mean it's not all that different conceptually from what's going on now with loading each animated texture from a separate file. Aside from forcing texture pack artists to work in even more separate PNGs, once they are all loaded and stitched together things should be pretty close to the same internally. I'll know more when MCP updates; I'm perfectly happy to let someone else deobfuscate for me (not so Kahr, another thing that makes him amazing)

Sorry to hear that Mojang has decided to make life less easy for you Misa. I hope once things are finalized that it will be easier to create and maintain your texture pack, but if you find that you have had enough, know that we have all enjoyed what you have done and will miss your work. Obviously we all hope you will continue, but you must do what is best for your sanity heheh.
Hey, did you know Dinnerbone doesnt/didnt even know what CTM is?
Hell, why dont they just buy MCPatcher and carry on with something that actually works?
Yeah, I like him, but he cleary doesnt know how to chanage the textures. For the blocks, I think adding a second terrain.png would be better, but for items, I think its better because it
s easier to allign the items.
I've been talking with him this morning. He's also a bit annoyed by the situation at the moment. Without speaking too much on his behalf, it's probably safe to say that 1.5 will likely be a bumpy ride for MCPatcher as well.

I would just wait out the snapshots and see how things go with them. After a few more releases, if the situation hasn't improved any, then you (and Kahr) can decide which direction to go in. Until that point just relax a bit.
Texture pack's been updated to support 1.4.7 and the 13w01b snapshot (not to be confused with 13w02b).
There will be no half-assed quick fix updates on the current live snapshot versions with the new texture pack format until everything that was working with the pack is capable of working once again. My pack at this point is too reliant upon CTM, Custom Colors and Randomobs for me to be satisfied with the look of my pack without them.
Wait Misa what MC-Patcher and Optifine brings with MC 1.5.
Don“t giv up!
I testet with the textur-converter and your texturpack. it works fine.
The most animated textures can be used with 13w02a/b. (add a little txt.file)
Only HD-fonts, compass and clock, randommobs etc. must be handeld with other mods.
Here my fast creation of quartzblocks.
I mixed it with existing textures in your TP.
You cant say it works well when its best aspect which makes it nice dont work. Thats like thinking a bird is beautiful, but when you buy it and when it arrives, its dead.

Yes please do that, so we can at least use your newest textures with the current snapshots.
But it doesn't look so bad with vanilla snapshot 13w02a (well, water, lava, no CTM....)
No, please don't do that.
Without your texture pack Minecraft is worthless...
