YES! I found out the solution to my problem! Lol sorry for annoying you Misa, here it is in case you may want to put it in the FAQs or for any of you fellow Mac users experiencing the same issue! NOTE: This is so your Minecraft runs on 64-bit Java, which greatly improves performance and allows use of the Far rendering distance without the message in red text saying you need 64-bit, you have 32-bit:
1. Go to the search button on the top right of your Mac screen and search "java" without quotes. There should be "Java Preferences". Click on it. Now a screen will pop up with either 32-bit Java, 64-bit Java, or both. Arrange them by dragging and dropping them so 64-bit Java is ABOVE 32-bit.
2. Next, find your Minecraft.app in finder and right click and click Show Package Contents. Click Contents, then open info.plist with Textedit. Scroll all the way down until you find <string>-Xms512M -Xmx1024M</string> or something like that. Change the numbers to the amount suitable for your system.
3. Under that there should be <key>JVMVersion</key>. Under THAT should be <string>1.5+</string>. Change 1.5+ to 1.6+. This is so it uses Java 6 instead of the outdated Java 5.
4. Under <string>1.6+</string> should be <key>JVMArchs</key>, then under that should be <array>. Add a new line under <array> and type this in EXACTLY as it appears here:
<string>x86_64</string>
5. Now it should read like this starting from the first edited line to the last:
If you're not entirely sure about these instructions I suggest going on YouTube and searching "(Mac) How to Use 64 Bit Java In Minecraft!!! [MUST SEE]" by the user TeamZonedOut. It will explain how to do what I just said but with greater depth and detail, and you have a reference on how to do it. Hope this helps improve your Minecraft performance!
@FlameSama1
No. You did not answer my question. I asked, "Are the skyboxes showing up when you use my pack?" You responded with, "Well just to make it easy to check I took your terrain folder and isolated into a .zip called MisaSky and installed that by itself with MCpatcher." I asked you to check my pack itself, not the skybox files you personally isolated from it. I'm trying to eliminate user error as a possible cause of your problems here (I cannot read your mind to know what skill level you have with texture pack-editing). When you go and separate my files from my pack for testing, I've no way of ascertaining whether or not you've made an error with file structure/naming (which I made clear was my line of reasoning in the immediate following statement). Stating you installed this pack WITH MCPatcher is also worrysome. For all I know you added the zip of my pack to the mods list in MCPatcher's mod option.
As far as me asking what file you used and clarifying that two files are necessary, I'm trying to ensure there's no misunderstanding of the situation. When you phrase, "...I took one of your files for the sky and made them pitch black..." the way you did, you directly imply that you're only using one file. This is another possible user error that I'm trying to eliminate.
And now you're saying you saw stars (completely new information to me), just no nebulae. Do this for me: -Post the version number of the game you're playing on and the filename of the MCPatcher you patched with.
-Select the latest (un-altered) version of my texture pack as your active pack in-game.
-In single-player take a screenshot of the stars and a sceenshot of the sun at sunrise then post them here.
As a point of advice, it is extremely important that you use unambiguous wording when seeking technical support. I have to assume everyone seeking support doesn't know what they're doing and slowly eliminate as many potential user errors as is possible. It's not a personal dig, it's just how troubleshooting works. If I make assumptions based on your assurances, I could completely miss the real problem and not be able to help.
@dittofire1
I'll be sure to refer anyone else with the problem to your post until I get a chance to evaluate and update the content of my FAQ.
@RyGuy
Really? You didn't read the first post at all? Barely the third and fourth sentence on the post. Heck, part of it's even in bold text to make it stand out. This pack is not supported by Optifine. It lacks many features that my pack relies on, and some of those that it does have are poorly implemented or incomplete. If you want to use my pack properly, follow the installation instructions and use the latest MCPatcher. If you fail to follow the instructions, you have to deal with the fact that it may not work another way.
@CaptainReaper The white texture problem also affects the title screen and can often result in a crash with an error message. I ran a tech support chat for well over a year and solved a problem with these symptoms many times with the troubleshooting methods listed in the first issue on my FAQ. I was even able to replicate the effect and repair it on a weaker machine. The white screen/textures are typically due to graphics attempting to be displayed while there is not enough memory assigned to java. When Minecraft runs out of memory to render graphics, it crashes. The first issue on my FAQ is a guide which should help you address this problem.
And yeah, unless the snapshot has addressed an issue with memory leaks inherent in Minecraft itself, updating to the snapshot would not address the problem. My pack is primarily designed for the live version and supports the snapshot as an afterthought and only when it doesn't interfere with the current version. At the moment 1.2.5 takes the highest priority.
As far as your ability to run 256x256 packs goes, while my skyboxes are scaled to the resolution of my pack, the actual texture resources for them are comparable to if not larger than those found in 256x256 packs. For this reason I've ensured that my BetterSkies support is made completely optional. Even to the point where it'll default to the original sun art when the mod is not active. After you've attempted following the guidelines on the FAQ, try unchecking this mod when you reinstall MCPatcher to see if it's the culprit. If that is the cause of the problem, you'll have provided valuable feedback which will go towards fixing the problem.
...to which I say...wow I'm a moron...see, I only use my own simple texture pack, and that one I install with MCpatcher like it's a mod...sooo I did the same thing with yours. It made sense to me-.properties files I figured HAD to be installed like a mod...nope, I just don't know what I'm doing. Added it to the texture pack folder and instantly got blueish stars (as opposed to the white stars in vanilla MC) and the galaxy/nebula/thing in the sky. Really sorry for the waste of time...
EDIT: In my own defense though, I edited the splash text and in order to change that you do have to treat it like a mod.
@FlameSama1 No worries. Properties files found in texture packs are automatically utilized by virtue of having your minecraft.jar patched with an HD Patcher like MCPatcher or Optifine. They are the mods themselves. Texture packs are merely content for the mods and are used/selected as any other texture pack. For instance if MCPatcher was installed with BetterSkies checked, it will look in the texturepacks folder for any selected texture packs that contain a terrain/sky0 folder and if any skyX.properties files are found, it'll use them. The process is designed to be simple so that anyone can use high resolution texture packs with any added features as they normally would any other texture pack.
@Npatterson11 I actually do take requests for things like alternate textures and I do take all well-justified criticism seriously. Much of my pack is the way it is today due to constructive criticism. However, you haven't even explained what's offensive about the symbol on the enchantment table. I don't see what's offensive about it. It's simply a pentacle; a practically universal symbol for magic. The star in my pentacle isn't even inverted to where it could be mistaken as the eastern star (which I'm still not seeing as offensive, just because some stupid organizations make use of it).
Some neo-pagan magical traditions make use of the pentacle, but that's hardly anything to be offended over. The enchantment table is supposed to be magical, so a magical symbol seems very appropriate. The runes circling it are simply taken from my runic alphabet used for the enchantment font and the flying magical rune particle effects. They're loosely based on the Elder Futhark runes used by ancient scandinavians and vikings for divination and magical charms. I see nothing offensive there either unless you're just offended by magic or historical symbols of magic in general.

I've had more people praise me for not having anything but a simple frame in my glass than people asking me to put more stuff in it. In fact originally my pack's glass had a simple latticework in it. People didn't like the clutter of it so I held a vote. I had about 5 different types of glass to vote on and the simple grey frame won unanimously.
The candidates are still available in the ALTERNATES.png file which people can swap in if they want, and I do take requests for new alts. Ideally, I'd like to have properly translucent glass at some point which I'd probably support with CTM as well. Translucent textures are a bit of a problem render-wise at the moment though.

if glass supported transparency, that would be amazing. i originally wanted the windows in my texture pack to be transparent bottle green, but sadly... that's impossible. i shall bring this suggestion to khar/sp614x (well, unless they already thought of it, but they do both have those future plans part on their threads so its not hard to check)
So I've been using this pack since waaay back in Beta, it was the first pack I ever used and I've honestly come back to it over 20 times like an ex-girlfriend XD It is BY-FAR the best texture pack available.. there are some pretty good ones, but until they work more on alternatives, and other mod related things, this will remain on top just wanted to say thanks for making my Minecraft experience so awesome for the past year Keep doin what you're doin

4. Close other high-memory-impact programs. Some programs are huge resource hogs, and no matter how much memory you have, if it's all being used by a web browser with a lot of tabs open (even if minimized) Java may not be getting the memory resources it needs to render all textures. In this case, on Windows it wouldn't hurt to use 'Ctrl'+'Alt'+'Delete' to bring up the Task Manager and arrange your currently running applications by their memory usage to see what big memory hogs you can shut off while you play Minecraft
My Comment: thank you amd for making a multi tasking cpu clocking 4.2Ghz and my 16 gb of ram with ssd... hmm... minecraft 10% cpu usage, ram 40% usage graphics card 260 FPS ingame but catalyst shows that the graphics card is in idle state at 15% of graphic memory usage... wtf?
Misa,
So this Texture Pack isn't compatible with Optifine?
I use MCPather for installing all my mods, including Optifine (Don't ask me why I use Optifine with MCPatcher, I'm getting tired of telling everyone). So, I have three questions.
1) If I check all the required boxes in MCPatcher to run this texture pack, will it conflict with Optifine, what what boxes are required?
2) Would It be possible to edit the pack to make it compatible with Optifine (not you, me, I'm no stranger to image editing)
3) What exactly does Optifine lack?
Aso, great pack, I love it (from the screenshots)
Most CTM features, and most of the asweomeness is made of these, also, better skies, optifine has poor custom colors (also a big part) and different mob overlays.
But you can disable the optifine HD features, you just need to delete their files and use MC Patcher. In the optifine thread, it's sadi waht are those files.
I did do everything right installing this pack and i have the latest MCPatcher, but still it says "use the latest MCPatcher" on water and lava. What should i do?

Retired Staffi do have one suggestion though... your windows are a bit plain, just being empty frames. add something more to them.
