Misa, I have a confession. I actually booted up minecraft without the HD patch. Accidentally. Forgot I have the 221 version still up. I do not beleive 1.8 requires an HD patch anymore. :biggrin.gif: Thanks for the update.
Correction: It works without one, it just has funky glitches in the texture pack? >> or soemthing like that
Additionally: The shields on armor are backwards, tee-hee :tongue.gif:
Best texture pack I've seen. Tried about a dozen popular others, and honestly, this is my pack of choice, strikes a perfect combination between realism and playability (a lot of the 'realistic' ones are too plain imo, while the others have acid colours). And it's updated fast, too.
I must say I kind of agree, the previous cobblestone texture looked better... my castle, almost entirely of cobblestone, looks kind of messy now. I suppose that's an incentive to switch to smooth stone or something. 1.8 doesn't seem playable anyway for me, memory leaks and crashes.
Oh, I just noticed the netherrack change. That I found really unfortunate. From a slightly disturbing but still interesting piece of rock that could be used for decoration, to just red cobblestone?.. I'm fixing it for myself, though, might just be my taste.
thanks for the quick update misa I can't really get into minecraft anymore without your texture pack running. some small critques. I like the new? running water texture. Either you changed it or it wasn't displaying properly for me before. it use to look like just smeared lines now it looks real nice.
I'm not too happy with your hunger bar though, I like the chicken leg hunger bar in the original and had hoped you'd make an HD version of that. maybe if you added some more detail to the bread slices I might like it more. maybe an alternative texture in the future?
overall great work. to me this is what minecraft looks like.
...when you first annouced the new cobble-texture i was quite happy, but now i thin the old one was better...why? the new one just look too plastic...it pops right in my eyes. also i thin the old one looks better next to cleanstone...so i changed it back.
but then was the thing with the new viny-mossy-cobble..i really like the new vines, so i cut them out and root them deep in the old mossy stone...
I couldn't disagree more. Plastic? It's different, but I think people are just going to be so used to the old one that they'll have difficulty with the switch. Not because it's a worse texture, but just because it's different than what they're used to.
The old cobblestone had the problem of being an extremely muddy texture, there are cracks and crevices on it that do not even make sense on it, not to mention due to the lack of uniform depth, this did not work well as a wall texture at all. The new one has a flow of light which makes it suitable for walls now, it also has much cleaner edges and tiles WAY better with its mossy counterpart than the old one ever did. Another issue that was corrected with the new cobblestone was the long-distance tiling. The old cobblestone had a very distinct striped-diamond look at a distance, the new one is much more uniform and tiles way better without repeating the exact same features twice on each tile like the old one did.
Overall I think more people need to just play with it for a few days before they decide it sucks, and eliminate some of that preservation of the status quo bias before making a decision.

With the new chests you can't create "desks" anymore...
It's a cool feature with the opening chest.... but I don't like the smaller model.
I agree completely! I think my old chest designs were far more creative in their uses. I wish Notch would've given us an option, but yeah not much I can do about it now aside from adapt my work to work with the game. :/ Wish there was more I could do. On the bright side we can put pressure plates on fenceposts for tables now!

Probably a good thing you can go with the blocks now anyway, I don't imagine many castles in reality were made using a small-stone cobblestone anyway. That'd probably make it incredibly vulnerable to siege. Cobblestone is definitely better used for streets, house foundations, and small walls.

..You do know chainmail armor has been there.. for like.. forever?
You do know that chainmail hasn't been legitimately obtainable until 1.8 Creative Mode, yes? There was no reason to make it up until now, unless you mean to cater to cheaters using item spawn codes and other block cheat mods. Which I didn't feel was necessary at the time.

There were a couple very good reasons for this. First, not everyone chooses to or physically can eat meat, but I didn't want to put a vegetable as the hunger icon either as that might be seen as leaning to strong vegan support. I feel the bread was a good middle ground that everyone could be fine with, so I stuck with it. The second reason I didn't like the default meat leg idea is that it does not match the general look of the other status icons. Simple, symmetrical, one color. The multi-colored, detailed meat leg stands out like a sore thumb on the HUD. The people at Mojang clearly don't have a professional sense of graphic design. (Heck, they even used Arial Black for their company logo which is kinda a big no-no from a design standpoint, but that's another conversation. :P)
Okay, onto general announcements. I'll probably be getting out a second update to fix a few things today or tomorrow (More likely today). A few things to look forward to will be a new Mojang logo, the latest ALTERNATES.png being included in the pack, A custom panorama for the title, colored explosions, and then a few fixes to textures I messed up a bit on, as well as some I forgot to do. If you've noticed any general bugs with the texture pack, please let me know on my tinychat.
I have a few questions, all of the you will probably answer as: that's how I like it. :biggrin.gif:
1. Stone bricks and stone slab are different shades of gray. Intentional? I found using the tile with the bricks allowed for more interesting building, but the lighter shade of the slabs kind of makes them stand out too much. Since they're both made from smooth stone, it only makes sense (to me) that they blend together well.
2. The new cobblestone looks very cobblestoney, so no complains there. I just don't like how it is much darker than smooth stone, it has the same problem as 1 where the two materials don't blend well together, at least for my tastes.
3. The mossy cobblestone looks like it has vines on it, not moss. Considering that actual vines can now be grown on cobblestone (or even mossy cobblestone), it seems like it would be better to have it look like what it actually is.

I have to agree with all of this. Was going make my own post about all these things but I was beaten to it.
This texture pack is causing my minecraft to crash, and I really don't want to have to reformat my computer to get rid of it. Is there any other way to remove this texture pack?

1. Intentional. They're similar enough to where you're able to mix them without too much of a clash of understanding the material of origin, but the varieties of shades is just a broadening of the palette with which one can express themselves with the different styles of stone. Slabs I tend to use as sidewalks and walkways on the sides of cobblestone streets, they also make good toppers and caps for stone walls and other stone structures. (Think ledges.)
2. At worst, you just have to copy and paste the old one back in. I think I've defended my reasoning behind why I prefer the new cobblestone enough.
3. This one is kind of an issue of the design of the game. The vines were introduced after I designed this for one thing, but for another, the way vines are implemented by Mojang I have to say is pretty terrible. They use the same art for vines hanging from trees as they do for vines growing along walls. This is pretty unacceptable from a realistic standpoint, so a bland middle-ground has to be struck when designing the art for these vines. Problem is I don't think it looks all that good on walls compared to the vines already growing on mossy cobblestone. Vines are most naturally found hanging from trees so their design leans a bit more to cater to that. I personally doubt I'll ever use them in place of the new "mossy" cobblestone.
As far as it not being mossy to begin with, here's why: I've attempted repeatedly to make mossy cobblestone look good. Every single time I get a bunch of complaints no matter what I do. It's too green, it's not green enough. And then there's my own personal complaint: It doesn't tile well with normal cobblestone at all. Looks terrible in its natural state (dungeons). The vines were the first solution that I think solved that last complaint quite well. Aesthetically it blends very well with normal cobblestone. And the overall design is pretty. It's not mossy, but at this point I don't care, it looks better than any of my previous attempts.

I don't like what you've done with the cobble, the text, or the netherrack, but I guess I'll have to get used to it.
Not exactly constructive criticism there. I don't have much to work with here for a response or a potential to improve things. I assume you haven't updated in ages. The text has been around for a few patch cycles now. At any rate you DO NOT have to just get used to it. I've included alternate cobblestone, text, and netherrack that you can easily revert to.

Simply delete the pack? Or follow the installation instructions. Because y'know, the leading cause of crashes is not properly installing the latest version of MCPatcher.
Anyway, main reason I'm posting here is to inform everyone that the texture pack's been updated.
Here's the latest changes:
-Added snouts to all pig skins. (Note that the snouts overlap the old ones for backwards compatibility)
-Re-added the squid skins. (Whoops!)
-Updated Mojang logo to be easier on the eyes while still being close to vanilla.
-Updated mapicons.png to reflect their state in 1.8
-Added the current ALTERNATES.png
-Added a panorama to the title screen based on my old personal world I've had since Indev.
-Fixed and revised the Silverfish skin.
-Fixed the edges of the Ender Pearl
How come the Iron Bars weren't made in the same style as the default skin. I was a little disappointed when I saw this and would like it very much if you could maybe make an alternate for it to keep it a little more similar to the original. Keep up the awesome work though.
First of all, I love you. I just got your texture pack and it's better than any other I've ever used. You even managed to make dirt (one of the most boring blocks in the game, in my opinion) super sexy! Also, you've mentioned that you've kept a personal world (legit, I assume) since Indev. Could you by any chance put that up for download? I'd love to see what you've done through your amazing texture pack.
