I guess that would depend on the computer your using. I haven't noticed any performance decrease but I wouldn't expect to on my PC.
I don't think it would have much of a performance hit because its still a pretty low res texture compared to many other games out these days.
Your project looks pretty interesting. You might want to wait for the Halloween update to come so you can find a desert biome area and base your constructions there.

Not that exact texture, but something like that. That's what some desert floors look like.
It would be amazing if you made that the dirt block and made snow the sand block, so when you dug off the sand, you get that dry floor

I'll try that because atm its hard to distinguish sand from dirt in my inventory. Though I will make the cracks more subtle.
I liked the lower resolution one better to be honest. This one looks too realistic, and is ugly in my opinion. :/
Isn't calling it ugly a bit far?
I mean lots of people prefer less realistic texture packs but they still appreciate the effort gone into HD ones.
Are you judging it on the fact its 'too realistic' or on its based style category?
EDIT: I've been working with images for years and doing web-development and TBH I don't see how the textures themselves could be called ugly.
of the parts I have done so far they all compliment each other with similar shades and colours and blend pretty smoothly together in the world.
EDIT 2: Maybe you could expand a bit on your constructive criticism so I can try and fix the problems you see?
Very Persian looking. I really like the looks of this one.
Thanks Soulscribe! it wasn't even 10 minutes ago that I was admiring your own texture pack.
It's great to hear positive comments from someone with an established texture pack themselves.
Well, I just liked the look of the old one. It was simple, it tiled well, and it was beautiful. Overall, I just hate HD texture packs. They ALL look ugly to me, so don't feel insulted.

Thanks! when I've finished with this one I'll go back and finish the old one too.
I know how you feel about HD textures packs I've only seen 1 or 2 I like out of a lot of them. They all seem to make the blocky nature of min-craft more pronounced in a bad sorta way.
I think if you add to much sharp detail it just turns out looking like a mess.
Yeah, so far I have seen none that I have liked. They are shoot for EXTREME REALISM, instead of improvings with more detailed, but still simple textures. Most are just basically photo-realistic, which in my view is superbly stupid.
I changed the grass to a bit more green looking so now the surrounding lands don't feel so desolate and barren.
I think its brightens up gameplay a bit because I was getting sad being in my desert all the time lol.
It also provides a better contrast in mountainous regions because grass no longer blends with stone or sand as much.
Also I will be renaming this because its not really a desert theme pack, I would appreciate any suggestions for naming it!
Tell me what you think of the new grass. =D
EDIT: I just noticed the water was a bit brights I changed it and updated the first pic if you don't see my new water colour refresh the page.
I like your new grass Aza! I would try breaking up that darker "S" shaped patch with the lighter style grass and perhaps breaking up the lighter with the darker. It looks nice in small doses currently, but on larger areas it's a very pronounced pattern.
The hardest thing to avoid is patterning. Tiling is easy, but the repetition of even subtle patterns is like honey to a fly for the human visual cortex. It really likes pattern matching and will zoom all over the scene going "there and there and there" and it takes effort to stop it.
I have a suggestion for a new name. Arid or Aridcraft if you're into that convention.

Q: What are you using for your editing?
Thanks. Yeah I'll make all the grass the same lighter style.

I WANT THIS TEXTURE PACK!
This is the best texture pack i have EVER seen. Oh, and the custom lava looks like pure awesomeness.
Thanks a lot =D.
It's coming along slowly but I should finish this pack eventually.
I love this. I love this like I love my own family.
Seriously though, this is by far the best HD texture pack I've ever seen, and I can't wait for you to release it, but I think I'll try installing it soon and check my WIP castle out in it :smile.gif:
I'm at an impasse I really want to do the brick and workbench blocks but I can't seem to come up with any ideas.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also I'm thinking of making iron/gold/diamond blocks basically stacked ingots/diamonds on a bamboo palette being held on with rope what do you guys think?
EDIT: Oh also here is a closer pic of my furnaces I'm not too sure about them so I might change them... tell me what you think! =D
For some reason it really remind me of the game 'Myst', no idea why as that wasnt set in the desert. However I really like that game so am interested in seeing the finished product.
But so far its looking great, I really like the high quality dirt on the previous page and hope you keep it, afterall whats the point in makinh a 128x128 if it isn't going to be super detailed.
Well its the subtle detail that's important. If I added lots of bump mapping and high contrast colours then everything would just look like a mess in game.
I'm trying to make everything look nice at a distance but when you get close to a block you notice the detail.
