Been using this pack since I've started, I don't know anything of steampunk or what it's about, but I like the look on this pack, can't play without it. Keep it up! :biggrin.gif:
Thanks everyone for all the compliments above and the amazing pics and textures. I'm currently working on improving my new textures and some other things too...slow and sure ('cos I'm playing a bit too, to get a feel for the possibilities and look of things).
I will go back through the thread and pull off all the generous offerings for inclusion somehow at the top of the thread. I'm still trying to come up with a simple way of displaying users graphics for download which looks nice, but doesn't gobble up vast ammounts of space (or my time!) at the top. I think I perhaps also need a separate gallery, so that all your pics are accessible for inspiration, but again not stretching that OP to extremes.
@ Triskelli, etc. hope Notch's servers are up and you've managed to sort things. :smile.gif:
My world3 (as of 19/1/11) with new textures and biome colours pretty accurately represented through 'MCmap'. Every so often I'll update this on the first page of this thread. Then if you're wondering where I am on here, you'll have the evidence of my travels and endeavours in Glimmar's World!

Maybe a stupid question, but is there a way besides using the patcher to fix the nether blocks? Don't like making it my default texture. I like switching around between textures.
Also out of curiosity, what actually causes those HD texture glitches?
The Leather armor should be some sort of German WWI armor.
The Iron armor should be clockwork armor.
The Golden armor should be a gentleman's suit.
The Diamond armor should be Iron, but covered in magic glass.

Right guys, I need some help. Im really dry on inspiration for the Leather armors, I cant think of anything, really. I need some ideas for it.
For Steel armor, I will make a breastplate and a nice, steampunkish helmet. For Diamons, Ill make a Juggernaut suit. Not too sure about Gold yet, Ill take ideas for that aswell.
I think for leather you could keep it simple with something similar to a leather flight jacket like this type deal:

can't decide which direction i want to go with it. Might keep the cloth for inventory, wood/copper for storage/workbench and make a stone/metal for the forge... hopefully this doesn't turn into a full fledged texture pack...

Second... To be blunt about it, the liquid blocks disappoint me. If you could add textures to show flowing water/lava, it would be so much better. Also the lava kinda looks weird but maybe that's just me.
Third, I noticed a few odd glitches which are incredibly noticeable and ugly as hell. The "pumpkins" are... broken. The view from inside them is fine, just the blocks themselves are a mess of textures. This applies to both the pumpkins and jack o lanterns. And the netherrack, oooooh man. It looks like running water from the default pack. Very out of place. When the netherrack is set on fire, like it inevitably will, it produces static, unmoving fire, and green smoke. It's really really awful.
I know there's some mod or something to fix that, but apparently it only works on the downloaded version? My computer can't really handle the downloaded version so that won't work for me.
I also agree with a previous comment, the smooth Stone blocks are a little bleh... I understand the issue that making them look more artificial will make it awkward to go underground, but maybe just make them a little less... grainy. It reminds me a lot of the default texture gravel. It just generally looks like it could fall apart at any moment. Maybe that's just me.
All in all, it's a really good texture pack, those are only single blocks out of many great ones.

unfortunately the game doesn't play nice with larger textures without using the patcher. Until Notch makes some change to the game to work better with textures larger than the default size, there isn't much that can be done to fix the problems you mentioned.

Xau's texture pack does not work on the online version, though, and I'm unable to download minecraft, so I can't use Xau's thing to fix it.
But about that green torch = green smoke thing...
Why not make all fire green? I'm sure that'd make sense seeing as how proper netherrack is supposed to look like metal. Maybe whatever metal the netherrack is composed of burns green.
There is the issue however of being lit on fire in lava. Red/orange/brown/bluh lava shouldn't light you on green fire.
Unless we go back to that metal burning green idea, where you could say the metals you are carrying are what burn green.
I also wanted to ask, because I have no idea where to find the answer to this, you have alt. block textures, like on iron and gold. How do I use those?

You edit the terrain.png, and move the textures you want to where you want them.

There is a 16x16 steampunk texture pack linked to on the first page, if you don't want to mess with the higher resolution packs. Otherwise, without patching, those graphical hiccups are unavoidable.

Dude, studded leather armor. Check out the textures in the Thief series for Garrett.
