Well...had a long sleep and didn't dream about Minecraft once (Minecraft dream stories anyone? Clean ones only!!).
Thanks for the generally positive feedback! To all those who didn't like some of the things I did, please remember this was just a quick edit so you guys could carry on. There are lots of things I want to change, eg. after a quick build last night (when I should have gone to bed) I realized I could definately improve on the arrangement of stones that comprise the sandstone block. Notch has definately given us lots of new things to make variations for. Over the coming days I'll try and tweak things, after reading all the mass of detailed posts...if anything we Steampunkians like detail in all things. lol!
Remember, whether you like the blocks to remain true to their nature or would like more choice in your building materials, I'll do my best to make available all the variety of textures, I and the rest of you make, at the top. It's really not difficult to edit the the texture squares and I'm proud of the fact that most folk on this thread are very helpful and would probably knock you up a quick terrain edit if you got stuck. Variety is the spice of life and we all like something slightly different from the next guy. Triskelli's excellent post above about the different types of Steampunk, illustrates the point.
What I eventually include in the terrain file and the pack will always, by necessity, be my personal choice, but your choice of materials and components doesn't have to end there with a wealth of alternatives at the top...in fact as someone who is interested in 'steampunk' it is required of you to learn how to tinker with things and improve it's look for your own needs. Just ask, if you are not sure how to change something.
@ d95: Thanks for the pointer about the musical note - I wasn't aware of that and would have missed it for the pack. Love your 'kraken' by the way, you did an excellent job on that! You wouldn't want to get shredded by those teeth! It reminds me of the teeth on the steampunk whale in the animated movie 'James and the Giant Peach'.
I love the range of movement on the squid and now I've had a chance to watch them, think it's easily the best mob we've had so far in my opinion, but they need little fish to catch, for real interaction! :smile.gif:
@ Excalipoor: There will be some new skins in the next pack, with thanks to their creators. They are already available at the top in 'Glimmar's Emporium'.
@ User: The cart and boat skins are already available at the top, mate, but they'll be in the pack too.
@ Triskelli: Love all your informative posts, especially like your concept art for the 'mole' machine and the arrangement of steam train, mole engine and drill bit. That looks a good 'doo-able' system to me. Folks are going to have to understand that there will be limitations on what can be done in minecraft, but your drawing looks plausable to me...and very good drawing skills too! :smile.gif:
@ Harpspiel: That mechanical squid/kraken looks cool and I don't mind at all, mate! When I get a chance I'll stick it at the top. That's a good use for my redundant 'diamond' texture! Love the 2nd one too! You're spoiling us for choice! :biggrin.gif:
@ CaptainClockwork and others with graphical gliches: I got the flames again too, as soon as Notch's update was applied. It was Gestankfaust that reminded me that you don't have to put up with it, even when xau's MCPatcher hasn't been updated. Find your '.minecraft' folder, move your old Minecraft 'bin' folder out somewhere safe, make a backup of your precious world save file and get rid of any mod stuff in the .minecraft folder. Then run minecraft again, let it download the latest version. Exit out without entering a world. Download xau's MCPatcher if you've not got the latest and run that, being careful to point it at my texture pack. That should fix the fire glitches. You'll have to wait for xau to update his patcher to get my green water colour though.
If all has gone well, do try to install Mr Messiah's latest BetterLight mod to really improve the look of your world and my textures. If you get that running ok (it is beta 1.2 compat.) you will be gob-smacked at Minecraft's beauty! Best of luck.
@ Frank_The_Bison: Thanks mate. I was trying to make the Dispenser look 'canon-like', but within the limitations of the furnace texture. had to change the graphic slightly on the sides of the furnace to make the rear application of that texture look more symetrical on the dispenser. I'll do more with the top of the furnace when I get chance. The brass plate on top was a quick placement for those, like me, who like to have a 'fence post' flu pipe coming out the top!
@ Xendrid: Thanks for that door mate, I couldn't help tinkering with it again to make it's colour and shade match what I'd done recently with my original wooden door. I think I'll use it more often in my own world because it's more symetrical and less fussy, when you've got a lot of them on display. Oh! and thanks for the new cloth patterns too. I'll stick them at the top, as soon as I can along with all the other alternative textures.
@ SBD1138: I'm mistified by the wagon wheel design appearing in the yellow wool texture. Is this in the thread pattern or some other texture appearing where it shouldn't? Can anyone else confirm this, incase I need to change the pattern of threads. They all do need more work sometime. Thanks.
@ Torack: What's happening with the lapis? As far as I can see it's in exactly the place it should be in the terrain file. Can anyone else confirm this isn't me being stupid or that it's just a bug Notch needs to iron out. Thanks.
Many, many thanks to all those who have shown their appreciation, you make all the effort worthwhile and fun! :smile.gif:
ps. Before I begin work on assembling the 1.7 version of this pack, I'd be grateful if you could help confirm the graphical glitches on the lapis and wool textures.
I'm still busy this weekend with RL, and the Mother-in-Law's birthday party, so don't expect an update very soon!

Thanks! Most of the examples you get when looking for a mole machine are certainly steampunk, but not many looked like they would fit well into a minecraft world from an aesthetic standpoint at least. So I decided to make my own! It's been awhile since I've drawn anything, but my sketches have always been... unrefined (Alot of trial and error there). So if you wanted to put your magic artist skills to my invention, I wouldn't complain :Notch:.
Also, it's a shame there's not a unique texture for the note-blocks... I guess our bundles of calliope pipes will have to wait. =/
Ooh! With the new furnace textures comes a chance to redesign the furnace as a whole, since we're no longer dependent on the smoothstone texture for the top... Boiler, anyone?
Oh, and best of luck with the in-laws, mate! (You'll probably need it =p)
@Xendrid & others: Thank you very much for updating the wool textures, although I think the wall decoration and so forth is rather the fortey of the paintings, but considering wool can be placed as carpet, hm I think the wool could rather be used for gadgets and construction-surfaces, well we will see but I don't want to limit ourselves, so I will try to incorporate some of the patterns in tapestry like paintings in the next paintings file I will release.
Lol people do not be afraid and I want to see more and more variations of the mobs, nice work from d95 and Harpspiel already! Keep it up!
Maybe you builder people can help me out on this one I am currently making the main mast for my sailing boat, and the sail shall be like abit wind is blowing in, at the moment I will do the brick like surface and then build with wool on it like a pyramid in one direction so it seems the sail is blown in the wind, dang hard to describe, first question is the curve nearly alright for a sail like in the picture with the red circle? or in what distance shall I put the blocks to get like a curved sail?
Only done the 3 woodblocks up and wool one line a 15 blocks across
-snip-
??? please help me out thanks
That would work, you'd need a bit of scaffolding as you get to the center though.
Good luck!
EDIT: can someone package the new textures? I'm surrounded with purple trees and sheep.
also: an old book called "Airborn"

Just drop the new terrain.png into the current zip, run Xau's patcher and MrMMods patcher...viola, all is good. Custom water doesn't work due to Xau not yet updated, but all else is good.
Made a steampunk Organ, with black-and-white keys and it actually works to!

I've seen a few trailers about this one, it's about a girl wrongfully sent to a women's asylum. She retreats into fantasy worlds of her own making to cope with the horrors of reality, and uses her adventures as a way to physically escape from the facility.
This is a perfectly blended gritty fantasy steampunk, altough I'm unsure how many of the sequences qualify: there's some traditional sci-fi and fantasy thrown in as well. By the guys who made the Watchmen movie, keep an eye on this one.
Glimmar, I had a thought about the cake textures. While cake is all fine and dandy, I thought that maybe some sort of 'medical kit' would look nice, especially since it functions quite like one (place-able, non -mobile health station). It's be odd to see it slowly disappear as it was used but the aesthetics would fit. At least I thought they might.
You need to edit your pack with the newest terrain.png, the missing blocks are causing what's happening, once you replace it, the blocks should be fixed.
Also, I have the wooden hoes done, but I'm going to hold out on uploading them until I get a bit more done.
I think the reported texture glitches came from an un-HD-patched minecraft. I haven't experienced any errors, though I replaced most of my cloth with alternates (as much as I loved the new iron texture, I couldn't part with the old 3-texture one. I put it on the black wool instead)
^Only words I can describe the texture pack while I stare in awe.
