Thanks Xanthia :biggrin.gif: Once I can get my hands on an update from Glimmar I'll work on creating a destroyed version and maybe shrinking it down a little bit (personally I think it's too big and contains too many resources for a new player to start with).
Maybe make a time machine based on the H.G. Wells novel. Here's a picture from the movie adaption by George Pal
Thanks Xanthia. Heh, I love that this thread for a texture pack has devolved into a general forum for everything steampunk. 72 pages and counting! (Love gothic/neogothic architecture, the culture not as much. :SSSS:)
The reason I suppose I bring this up is because the colored blocks will be a definite stylized factor in the pack, and one that might cause a little division amongst us.
As for material ideas... I still like the cloth/wood/metal combination with fairly similar textures... The only problem is figuring out which colors are best for what material. The dyes included in the game are:
My reasoning with the combos I listed earlier was that the most vivid colors should be cloth, the darkest colors should be metal, and the lightest colors should be wood. Not certain of the aesthetics of each, but feel free to shift colors to match the material. As long as the relationships between the colors is approximately the same, it'll come out right.
Glimmar's Steampunk Update for Beta 1.2
Sorry it took so long in the end! Here's the updated 'terrain.png' file to drop into Glimmar's Steampunk zip folder in the Minecraft Texture Pack folder...don't forget to rename it to 'terrain.png".
Oh! If you're new to this pack, download v1.6 (page 1 of this thread with instructions) and replace the terrain.png file with this and don't forget the new minecart and boat textures, also on page 1. I'll package it all up tomorrow as a new zip file, but at least you can re-enter 32x32 land. I desperately need sleep now.
Here are some of the new things:
brick (extra course of bricks)
iron block
clay block (for now)
dispenser
furnace top
dark log
silver birch log
'Wild Grass' textures (will change again in the future, but better than it was)
foliage
lapis lazuli block
lapis lazuli ore
sandstone top, side, bottom
15 coloured cloth (had to edit them in the end, particularly the stitching)
a few new alternative textures including:
half block
iron blocks
yellow flowered bush
wooden door
Most of the existing textures have been tweaked including:
soil
plank
tnt (now has label)
sand
gravel
light log
gold block
diamond block
chest and craftbench
wooden door darkened and new shading at edge to make it recess better
railtrack
redstone pipes
ladder
You'll notice I've tidied things up and everything should be in the right place. Any alternative textures I'll put in a separate file at the top and only include things of note on the most recent version. In the meantime if you don't like some of the changes, save a copy of the old terrain file and use it to cut and paste other textures back in.
Take care.
Glimmar
Lol at the 'S' foliage above. All taken care of now though (hopefully!)
ps. I don't think the new update will effect this terrain file, unless Notch has added a new texture, but I'll check back as soon as I can. :smile.gif:

thanks for making it so fast!!
take a break and have fun!
im going to make a squid texture but i need a 32x32 original texture....
YOU FORGOT: the new thing i particles! (the note)
there is some spots with color! i will remove the spots soon!
edit: heres an big photo of the squid: *snip creepy*
hehe...
*snip big eye*
*snip Don't look at me like that*
*snip Oh sweet Jesus in Heaven! o_o*
if you want me to do something with the skin, then just ask.
i want to get the pictures in good quality but i cant! HELP!!!
That is one scary mob skin, d95.
On another note, has anyone seen MaudDib lately? Can't wait to see the powered minecart he comes up with...
In the meantime, though, I came up with some concept art for the mole-machine, or "Driller" as I call it. It's fairly steampunky so I thought I'd share it here:
Heheheh.... Nothing wrong with a little self-indulgence, is there? (Yes, that's supposed to be me. Yes, I like to think of myself as Shaggy dressed as Dr. Steel :Pig:) I'll put a full explanation in MaudDib's thread.
Ugh, I need to start practicing again... that right hand took forever and it still looks wonky.
All righty, I'm pretty new to texture editing so bear with me.
I took some liberty with some of Glimmar's textures - Glimmar, I sincerely hope you don't mind, if you do I'll remove this. I wasn't sure how the resizing is supposed to work, especially since the squid was an odd size, so hopefully this won't be too funky.

Well I dont know that I would call it a glitch. More of a random happy happenstance.
It seems as though the "S" Block is being pulled from the alternates.
I just found it rather amusing and wanted to share.

As for material ideas... I still like the cloth/wood/metal combination with fairly similar textures... The only problem is figuring out which colors are best for what material. The dyes included in the game are:
PRIMARY (Obtained from environment)
---Red
---Yellow
---Blue
---Green
---Black
---White
---Brown
SECONDARY (Combination of dyes)
---Orange (Red & Yellow)
---Cyan (Green & Blue)
---Purple (Red & Blue)
---Gray (White & Black)
---Light Blue (White & Blue)
---Pink (White & Red)
---Lime (Green & White)
---Light Gray (White & Gray)
---Magenta (Purple & Pink)
