I just thought of an interesting Steampunk project. We've all seen Wild Wild West with Will Smith right? I think building the spider in game would be a fun challenge. http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/wys ... antbig.jpg

HA!!
I was just gonna post about my spider.
Was wondering if there a way to turn the legs into swiveling jet turrets? I tried just doing the texture that way, but the legs aren't mirrored so it always turned out wrong. My idea originally was to make it a steam powered hover spider with the jets and exhaust. But until i saw MauDib's work, I didn't think all of that possible.
Oh MauDEEEEeeeeb....

@ Xendrid: I know what you mean about the wooden door. If like me you use a lot of wooden doors, the offset detail of my original door just doesn't look right when used en-masse. Lovin' what you've done with your edit and I'll include that on my next update, if I may.
Absolutely, man! There are just a few other things that I will toy around with and see if you would approve.
Also I noticed the current gui samples on the OP are 256x256. I haven't been able to read through the thread, but I was wondering why they aren't 512x512?
Look forward to seeing any variants. If I can't fit them on the terrain.png file as alternatives, I'll put them up at the top for all to pic and choose. What I eventually need is a much more stream-lined display of alternative textures, items, gui's etc. but I lack time and motivation at the moment to constantly keep doing house-keeping! :sad.gif: Wah! I wanna do texturing too! Lol! :biggrin.gif:
Yes, gui's can be 512x512 in size and don't need xau's patcher (same with the mobs) it's only the terrain.png file, water and lava animations and items that need the power of the MC Patcher.
Bloodjack who did them had got to gui no.3 before I realized myself that they were 256x256 and I didn't have the heart to say they could have been 512x512. [really sorry Bloodjack!] The furnace and the craftbench I particularly like. I will be using them in the next update, until I get round to doing my own, after which I'd always like to keep them available for others to pic and choose. I think the strength of this theme, if anything, is that Steampunk has an open-ended brief as regards gadgets and gizmo's and I love the idea of having lots of different things for fans of the genre and passersby to see and think, "Oh, that's just the thing I'm looking for". Literally, like a Victorian antique shop of curiosities.
So if anyone else has any variants, feel free to post them, whatever quality you think they are, someone, somewhere out there will like the idea, use it, or improve upon it, etc. However, you'll have to bear in mind I won't always be able to manage them to the top, and don't want to get too bogged down with management and layout, 'cos texturing is my thing (and building of course). Not being very internet savvy, I'm also slow to think of better ways to display stuff, but I'd hate for anyone to miss out on any cool little gadgets or alternative gui's, etc.
Glimmar you must of missed my post in MaudDib's thread. I am posting it here so there are no misunderstandings. I would feel bad if you thought i was upset in any way. =)
Ha! Sorry again, mate. There's too much going on at the moment for me to keep up. I didn't think you'd be too offended, but I still felt an apology was in order! I Just didn't want anyone to miss what an amazing affect a bit of sound can have.
It would be wonderful to have sound with the paddle steamer and eventually the minecart train, even more so if the chugging sound could speed up or slow down depending on the speed. That would be so much fun travelling around. Can you imagine the number of rail/steam fans both within and without Minecraft who would die for that level of atmosphere!
School work is holding me back on the S.S Glimmar. I'm afraid the scheduling will push the grand opening of this ship by a few days. Now that I'm looking at it , it looks more like a "airship" too me. I'll try one of those later on. For now, OCD is driving to finish up the "hull" of this ship, then, it can be "dropped" into position into the water.
Lol! I'm probably the last on here to upgrade to beta, but it means I've been able to try out the paddle steamer for the first time (again, probably the last one on here to do so!). Talk about a hot-rod! Like d95 I've smashed 3 up already 'cos it goes so fast! He's a clever chappie that MaudDib!
I'd reached a point where I couldn't guess what some things would look like on the higher res skin for this pack. Now I should be able to upload the finished, paint job tonight. I tried my little 32x32 icon out and it looked ok too. :smile.gif:
This is just a rush post. I haven't looked above me, but will later and reply if anything needs my attention.
This thing is a bit bigger than I thought. Might need to replan.
I see you've moved the paddle steamers out of range. Just in case of a big splash. You should be working on a big launch ramp like they do in real life! :smile.gif: Love the curve of it!
The MaudDib/Glimmar 'African Queen' HD Paddle Steamer As promised earlier here is a pic of the MaudDib/Glimmar Paddle Steamer skin for 32x32 pix HD textures. Sorry it took so long, but I hope you think it was worth it! :biggrin.gif:
And here is the skin:
I've been able to test it this time myself, but I'd be grateful if you could give it a test drive and see if I've missed any panels off somewhere or got something upside down!
Have fun...but you've got to talk like Humphrey Bogart now!
Alright I appear to be having some issues now that I started a hamachi server. Whenever I patch the texture pack, I can't connect to my own server. Any idea why?
It seems that this person has lifted half of your textures without giving you credit, not sure if you care just thought I'd highlight it. viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=132609
Many thanks, mate. I've just had a word with him in his thread. If he properly acknowledges me and other artists, then I think I'll be happy with it. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks again.

Heh...funny, these forums are.
I consider Glimmar to be one of the most direct, and nice artisst/creators you'll see here. But I could swear I saw the claws a touch there in that thread

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
Nightmares torment me. I can no longer resist the call of the infinite. Their blows rain heavy. My wraithbone cracks. My sight in this world dims. I return to slumber. My soulstone, please take it. Save...the others
You have to think logically about this. I, and others, can't really help you with such a limited post. I've just recently been swapping back and forth between Alpha and Beta Minecraft and each time xau's M C Patcher has had no problems in patching the texture pack. It is no different than any other 32x32 texture and should not be a problem. Many above have installed and patched the pack and if there was glaring problem, I'm sure it would have been reported by others in the thread above.
Try to follow the instructions on page 1 of this thread carefully (sorry there is so much to plow through up there) and xau's instructions for his M C Patcher, and use a clean install of Minecraft just incase. I don't wish to be condescending, but the best of us miss out on some glaringly obvious step from time to time!
If you still want to install the pack and you can't, then by all means ask again, but with a little more detail for us to go on. Best of luck, mate!
In my excitement of finally finishing the higher res texture I forgot to mention how it should be used:
Download and follow the instructions on MaudDib's thread and in the readme file of his downloaded mod. Just replace the lower res steam boat texture with the higher res one here (don't forget to rename it to 'steamboat'):
and there's a nice 32x32 icon to go with it too:
This just replaces MuadDib's temporary steamboat icon in his mod. Make sure you rename the little icon above to 'steamboat'.
You can put the two steamboat graphics above into MaudDib's mod, then follow his installation instructions, or if you've already installed his mod, you can swap the graphics over in the appropriate, 'item' and 'gui' folders in the minecraft.jar. Hope I've explained things ok! :smile.gif:
Ha ha! It would be steamingly hot too...sitting with one's legs a-straddle of the boiler!
Many thanks, mate, I appreciate your comment. It was a struggle to do, but for this theme it was worth it. I'm very pleased you like it! :smile.gif:
you're welcome :smile.gif: I'm now editing all my textures again in a realtime game engine :biggrin.gif: damn hard to lol..
How on earth do you find the time to do that?! This is comparable to me huffing and puffing (no steampunk joke intended!) round the running track to complete one lap, while you're on your 4th or 5th, and still looking fresh. Lol! You're making me feel my age!
