Well, I had a chance to work today. Have a simple iron shovel (I'm going to have to steampunkify it later).
-- snip --
my god man, you are the god of item art =)
I just plugged in the diamon sword and pickaxe, the look fantastic!
sorry i havent done too much with the vehicles, but i wanted to play with the updated redstone/lightstone torch mods for my cpu, they hold much promise for getting that cpu design functional. modders need to play too =)
I still need someone to make a nice inventory icon for the steamboat...and hopefully make versions for higher res packs. pretty please? =)
It had to be shorter, and I've had a bad PC weekend. Had a ton of footage of the interiors of the airships as well as a complete circle of the area via mine cart tracks. All lost. Corrupted by the foul blue screen demons!!
Lost a ton of stuff from a rather weird weekend for gaming or creating.
But hey...I can still make more!!

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
Glimmar, I'm just loving the combined work of you and MaudDib. Just want to say that first and foremost.
Secondly, I'm having a problem navigating this thread to find the most up-to-date files. Is it all on page 50, or are the most up-to-date items on page 1 now?
Aside from congratulations and questioning I just wanted to mention that I had the same immensely ridiculous issue that another poster had with the Wild Grass mod. I know, it's not your mod/pack, I'm just mentioning it because I was using it in concert with your pack.
My grass grew to it's full height in the shortest amount of time in combination with whichever biome I'm in, it created a fairly dark and difficult venture. The area in which I spawn is also surrounded by trees... so it's even harder to find my way. I did, however, remove the Wild Grass mod so I could finally get around without falling off the edge of cliffs, getting caught off guard by mobs, etc.
Even though I had all that horror.... the grass does indeed work EXCELLENTLY to compliment your texture pack. Especially when it comes to designing a Steampunk city from the ground up.
Many thanks for the compliments, Servbot44, and apologies for the confusing nature of finding the most up-to-date pack. It was both on page 50 and the first page...v1.6 is the most up-to-date with a new one coming out as soon as I can get MuadDib's vehicle skins completed. Page one tends to get buried in things I want to show off at the top, and I'm certainly not the most organised of people! :sad.gif:
There are new skins for the minecart and boat on page 1 too, but you'll have to drop these in yourself for now. These will be in the next version of the pack, along with new terrain textures, hopefully a new, gadgety 'really useful' art pack, with Tiger4Rulers Steampunk art pack still available, and a few mob and gui surprises from other contributors in lieu of my own, until I get round to it.
The grass has been edited to take into account that once grown to it's full 2 block height it tends to get very difficult in places, I've shortened it and added a bit more randomness...not a patch on John Smith's or Misa's I'm afraid, but I'll get there! My manicured grass block doesn't lend itself to wild grass as nicely as their more heavily textured versions. What we ideally need with the grass, as I've said in the Wild Grass thread, is a random growth and death cycle, and if possible, a procedure that makes the grass drop a growth level everytime you or a mob walks over it. You'd get nice well worn paths then and even the ability to track mobs (possibly).
Ooo! Show us your steampunk city sometime! :biggrin.gif:
@ VernianProcess: Ha ha! Glad you like the prospect of working vehicles and steam engines! Sorry it's such a trawl sometimes, but it's very nice to have imput from so many enthusiastic Minecraftians. Hope you like the vids featuring your music that are filtering through. They're making for a great showcase of visual delight and sound.
@ legion1232: Above all else (assuming you've patched with xau's MC Patcher) you should apply the 'BetterLight' mod by MrMessiah. Link on first page. In my opinion BetterLight makes Minecraft the difference between chalk and cheese! Others will be able to recommend better than I, I'm sure.
@ Xendrid: I know what you mean about the wooden door. If like me you use a lot of wooden doors, the offset detail of my original door just doesn't look right when used en-masse. Lovin' what you've done with your edit and I'll include that on my next update, if I may.
I will eventually get round to doing another wooden door, but I'm feeling I need an augmented brain, extra mechanical arms and a time machine now to keep up! Not too much to ask for an average Steampunk kind of guy!! :biggrin.gif:

I'm in complete agreement with you on the need to play. It's where I recharge my batteries and get more ideas for what I'd like to see in Minecraft!
As regards the higher res skins for the paddle steamer, should have the larger version ready today for my 32x32 pack, then I'll rustle up a couple of icons for 16x16 and 32x32. As soon as it's ready I'll PM you a copy and you can decide if you want to use it! :smile.gif:
@ hengehog: Such scale! I get frustrated about the height restrictions (I understand why there's a limitation) and the Steampunk theme could definately do with at least twice the height, but lookin' good none-the-less!:Diamond:
@ Gestankfaust: Wow! You've outdone yourself again with that video and PipeHead those creations look even better than I imagined they would just from the pics! Great work both!
Glimmar, your "PaddleBoat" version of my original boat will be out soon. Maybe 2 days, or 1, depending on my homework. The hull work has started, and I'm making a new tree farm. I also just installed fancypack, so yeah. We'll see how this Paddle Boat turns out.
I appreciate all the work you're putting into this pack, and I've seen this progress alot. From the days when it was just a terrain.png (Before the Halloween update) to now, a flourishing, inspiring pack.
Well done Glimmar, and I wish you the best of luck.
Godspeed.
P.S a video of the S.S Glimmar is coming out!
EDIT: Never mind. My computer shut itself down while I was rendering it. (The lag was immense).

Oh! Flippin' computers eh! :sad.gif:
Many thanks for the encouragement, mate, it is much appreciated! :biggrin.gif:
If you've just installed the FancyPack (which I might try out in preference to the Wild Grass mod, when I find the time to upgrade to beta!), You might be interested to know that CubicMeter has begun work again on a Steampunk version of that mod's items. Do you know if that mod works ok with the MorePaintings mod? Hope it does, as with FancyPack and my more useful kz.png art file, folks should be able to produce many more architectural flights of fancy! :biggrin.gif:

Hahaha, you won't believe the amount of homework a 12 year old gets. (3 flipping essays, 3 pages of science questions, and extra homework) Jesus!
That mod is mostly incompatible with all mods, and More Paintings isn't updated to BETA yet. Fancy Pack isn't even compatible with Better Light & Better Grass.
Ooops: Look at the time. Better get back to the essay. Minecraft and Stuff is getting me distracted.
@Gestankfaust - thank you, thank you, thank you. That vid was really cool. Sucks your PC took a dump, but you'll get it back and then we can all revel in the Glimmar goodness.
If anyone is interested in building on my server, please PM me to discuss adding you to the whitelist? I've got a castle with housing around the outside or you can go off on your own and build away!

Oh, just before I go, here's a hull of the Paddle Boat.
It'll be "sunk" into the water later (MCedit, sorry about that, with homework and so much, I can't be bothered to remake it again)
Ha ha! It looks suspended at the moment and I'm trying to imagine the splash that thing would make if you dropped it into the water! Lol! Happy imagining! The tiny MaudDib Paddle Steamer there would get a proper soaking, that's for sure.
You and PipeHead and Triskelli have just inspired me to write a little 'blurb' at the top of the thread! Give me sec to change things (I know how quick you guys are!). :biggrin.gif:
This thread is the main reason I signed up for these forums. The best texture pack there is; you are able to create an incredible victorian atmosphere at only double the resolution of the original MineCraft (instead of all those people who make 99707242p textures that eat up the game). I personally think that this should be THE texture for MineCraft, but in the end that is up for Notch to decide. Well done. Well done.
-Tom
Many thanks, mate. Very encouraging words indeed!
Like the blurb says at the top of the thread, with enjoying building on an epic scale myself (albeit, ground to a halt at the mo') having textures look good from a distance was always of paramount importance, and to my eyes, I still think 32x32 is about the optimum scale for a blocky epic world construction. I'm no pixel artist though, so I take my hat off to those who are and the fine high and low res textures they've created. I've had to learn on the hoof and I'm under no illusion as to my weaknesses.
I also love the Victorian era and steampunk's freedom for gadgety goodness... and that's how we end up here, with lots of helpful, like-minded folk with a megolamania complex. Only kidding folks!

It sadly is a bit shorter than I want it to be but I think it will turn out well non the less.
A view of the framework

The goal is to make it look like this:

Kinda bigger.
There it is, with it's smaller cousin!

It's alot "sleeker", not so sluggish, which is perfect.
