Any one know where i can get an out side view and floor plans to any castle or building its making it very hard to make historic places with out knowing how they lay out inside and the only castle ive been to is carisbrook castle in england and that was a few years ago :tongue.gif: i really dont remember much from it.

had to wrangle the box code to render them, and had to write some code to give me a steady spin rate regardless of frame rate. have to install fraps or something to record it, but its almost there!
edit: youtube.com is taking its sweet time converting my video clip, but the steamboat is nearly done. the engine and smokestack are in place, its belching lots of smoke. final step is texture mapping, that will take much effort to get it right

finally the vid came up on youtube, complete with some VP in the background =)
texturing up next...the base boat is still the same, just need to add custom mappings for the new parts.
im still considering that canopy...what do you guys think?
is there a way we can just plop it into our Texturepack folders instead of that MCpatcher mumbo jumbo

Back to back, they faced each other
Drew their knives and shot each other
A deaf policeman heard the noise
And came and killed the two dead boys

Oh! Wow! What a fine morning it is! Went to bed very tired last night and wake to have breakfast and look to see if there are any posts on my thread here...and lo and behold two of the most astounding vids are waiting for me!
First: PipeHead your vid of Nueschwanstein Castle in Bavaria Germany is quite simply astounding and so beautifully rendered with the 'Better Light' mod. A fantastic show case vid for my textures and it's definately going to the top, mate. Many thanks for doing this, you certainly have an eye for choosing the right textures and you've reminded me of things I'd long since forgotten about...that cream cobblestone for example...I really must try it out again with ambient occlusion. So looking forward to seeing your airships in video splendour!
ps. I'd love to see some of my current painting fixtures and fittings in that castle. Couldn't think of a better place to show them off in! :smile.gif:
second: MuadDib: How amazing are you? Having just mopped up my breakfast cereal from drooling all over PipeHead's vid, you make me splutter the rest down my newly changed morning suit in utter disbelief!! There was I thinking, I'd better keep my sketches simple, MuadDib is bound to have problems making this work, and you come back in a matter of hours with a completely working paddle steamer. How awesome is that!!! I cannot believe how cool that looks. I love the way you've even managed to make the water churn up behind the paddle wheels - fabulous! Would it be possible to make the funnel about half as much higher so that the smoke appears to go over the sailor's head? I'm worried I haven't given you enough detail now.
I am in the presence of genius's (or is that genii?) on this thread. You absolutely make all the effort of doing and re-doing textures worthwhile (even if I need a break from time to time). When I see what can be done...as in the two examples above, it spurs me on to work on new things, and I'm sure that's the same for others who visit this thread. You have my sincere thanks both of you...my morning is bright and cheery, despite the snow conditions outside here and the fact I'm suffering from a nasty cold and sorethroat. Thanks guys for posting in this thread and showing your skills off in my grim glimmar pack!
ps. MuadDib: I'm in agreement with others in that I think a canopy would look awesome, but would probably obscure the view of the landscape... Unless the boat was bigger of course. Any ambitions to make a bigger boat, perhaps?!! You have proved you absolutely have the skills to do it!! Let me know also if you want me to flesh out a bigger schematic for a locomotive...I'll put other things on hold for that too.
[edit] Bumped your paddle steamer vid to the top - next to the pic of my new paddle steamer boat texture.
@ hengehog: Very much looking forward to seeing pics or vids of your Escher build.
is there a way we can just plop it into our Texturepack folders instead of that MCpatcher mumbo jumbo
Yes, but the gold, brick, and any nether blocks will be messed up, any 32x32 items will be shredded, I don't think the compass or watch works, and the water will have no animation.
On a side note, Wild Grass is now updated for the beta. (but no betterlight or bettergrass compatibility yet.)

Yay! Wild Grass is edited? That's another good reason to get on with finishing my update. I've improved my Wild Grass textures too, but I better go have a look and see what's changed. What a day!
[edit] Boo! It doesn't work with BetterLight and Better Grass yet! I'll stick with 1.2.6 until I've finished editing the grass and other textures! Simply can not do without Wild Grass and Better Light and Grass:(
Nice to see that the forum posting system is a lot more stable again! :smile.gif:
@ Telgar: Now I know your mad! Why anyone would wish to leave Dancrum's beautiful 'Animal Crafting' for my depressingly grey texture pack must be bonkers! Lol! That's a pretty awesome world you created there, mate. It kind of felt like the journey Charlie made in the great glass elevator in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. A load of cool ideas on display too!
Well if you can stand Glimmar's dimmer world for more than a few minutes I'm sure you'll come up with some awesome achievements. No running away now!
The mad hatter has nothing on me! =)
Dancrum's, 'Animal Crafting' is a very nice texture pack. I have enjoyed using it, but i need a change. I've lost interest in building on my map and a new map is in order. Along with your texture pack i should be able to regain interest in building again. Also after seeing all the great builds in your thread i have a desire to build something similar with your pack myself. Plus your texture pack is just pure win. It should be interesting and fun.
Thanks for your kind words on my world. It is much appreciated!

im still considering that canopy...what do you guys think?
That is amazing work! Damn good job there. I'm impressed.
@Glimmar, thanks for the props. I know the content is what is important in the vids, but I wish it could of been more polished. Hopefully Gestankfaust will be able to render the airships with a professional feeling vid. As for the light colored cobble...I was looking at the terrain.png and noticed all these other blocks in there. Didn't even know they existed. The color of tan or beige cobble seemed more inline with the steampunk colors I used to seeing on tv/movies. I also switched to the lighter wood plank texture and the dark vibrant blue diamond block. Oh and yes Better Light is like the difference between driving an Opal and a Bentley...there simply is no comparison. It would be nice if Notch simply incorporates Better Light as a graphics option to be turned on or off into MC!!
@MuadDib, holy crap...that paddle boat is off the charts! I cannot wait to see it all wrapped up in it's textures. It will be the mod of the year...unless of course the minecart comes out better LOL
SUGGESTION
Take the color of the Glimmar water and use that for the rain, the bubbles and the splash particles. Of course the darkness/lightness may need to be tweaked for each application, but then things would be unified in the Glimmar world. I might also suggest making the snow a light grey. Just some thoughts on a few minor things.
im looking for some thing to give me ideas for building in minecraft what would be some good things to look in to or at on the web?
I got to be honest with you Legion1232, you may spend more time looking for the 'perfect' blueprint and waste valuable building time.
I'm not saying don't do research, but don't let the lack of details in your model stop you from plunging head first into the build phase. There for awhile I was trying to draw out, in exact measurements, my builds on graph paper. It is and was futile. The terrain of the world you are building in will invariably throw a wrench/spanner into your best laid plans.
My advice, is to build, then build again and finally build some more! Experience will give you the ability to flow around your environment and to flow around the limitations of Minecraft.

Pipehead, the splash particles and bubbles have already been edited for the pack, but they're a kind of halfway house between blue and green, otherwise for all those who can't get or don't like my water colour, they'd look too out of place. I tried a darker green but it just didn't show up as well! :sad.gif: However, I think any water when churned up would be frothier and lighter than the still water. I'll have another look though when I get a chance.
Do you mean, making the snow slightly darker, like a kind of slushy snow? I'll look into that. :smile.gif:
Re: the new clay texture. How useful would a rusty cast iron grating be...for aerial walkways and the like? I know it's absolutely nothing to do with clay or brick making, but new 3d blocks are hard to come by without complicating things with more mods, and I'm noted for not doing things the traditional way! Lol!
I'm looking at my alternative wood texture in a new light after seeing your vids, also I definately want to try out some new stone and cobblestone textures in the future.

Sorry, I didn't realize the bubbles and splash had been changed...and you are right, splashing around in the dirty water tends to make a light colored froth! As for the snow...yes, all the coal burning and wood burning to generate all the steam necessary to drive a steampunk world would likely cause soot to deposit on the snowflakes thus giving them a gray tint. Hell, I'd go so far as to give the clouds a grey tint too...I'm mean if we are going to do steampunk then lets do steampunk LOL
I would love a transparent grate for the clayblock. Maybe give us a choice, one that is rusty, one that is steel grey and one that is iron black!?
It's funny, I want the dark steampunk 'atmosphere', but when that is accomplished with by simply darkening all of the block textures, it just turns into darkness. I think the best way to for me to view things, is to be in a completely enclosed space, like the belly of an airship. Then put up just a few torches...just enough to light the place, but still have areas of low light. Then look at the textures. Some are simply too dark, some are too muted, some are too bright and some are just right...that's what happened with the wood plank. The lighter colored one worked better in the darker areas. I might also point out that even though steampunk is dark, it is richly detailed, fantastically detailed in fact with all kinds of parts and intricate designs. Darkness tends to hide that detail.

careful what you wish for, you may get it =)
I was looking at all the alt textures in terrain.png that you did and i was wondering: why have all that extra space when nothing in game utilizes them? Im pretty sure some mods take advantage of it, but I've not seen one that says "heres an extra 20 blocks or so using those extra tile slots, have at it"
I think i can easily pull off a mod that maps all those extra tiles to a new set of blocks that can be crafted or put you in a builder mode where you hold a key down, scroll the mousewheel and your toolbar shows you the new blocks with those fantastic textures. Only problem with this is after you modify your map with these new blocks, anyone trying to load your map must have that mod and texture pack loaded or things will not look right. But since i run mods and your texture pack anyway, that wont stop me =)
many thanks to all who commented on the boat, i was giddy to all hell and back when i got the paddles and smoke stack working all proper. i have a long workday today so i wont get much done today, but ill definitely be working full tilt on the weeked, perhaps with a new mod for people to play with by next week.
I do not have 1.2.6, something i wish I knew i needed to back up before the beta was rolled out, all this work is beta compatible only. I have hopes with McNostalgia tho, it claims it can downgrade a beta jar file to an older version. if this is the case, i will try to make a 1.2.6 compatible version of the steamer as well. Let me get this done first tho, keep an eye in the modding forum next week for the thread =)
to Glimmar: this texture pack is getting better and better!
