Glimmar, you know how you added the green crystals to the coal blocks. What if you changed both the coal ore block and the coal item to a green crystal in rock and a green crystal shard respectively. That would explain the green flames and could have been a discovered fuel source that steampunk explorers found in the "New World".
Just an idea, change it how you like.
Also could someone add the item gui to the texture pack?

Someone had this idea before, unless it was you, SirStæmPùnk. I will have a fiddle at it some time, because I thought it a good idea.
Ha ha! No probs, Gestankfaust. I'll get round to doing something official in time. Still working in other areas and only so much precious free time. :sad.gif:

I have been using the pack for a while and LOVE it. I have also gotten a few friends to start using the pack. I would definitely love to have some official items included in the pack.
My wish would be for a set of "glimmerized" default items and not extreme changes to what they look like, ie: leaving the bow and arrow as a bot an arrow instead of changing it to a pistol and bullets. Although the items that Tlos has been working on do look cool I prefer to mine with picks and dig with shovels.
Many thanks, hengehog, much appreciated. When I get round to doing something with the items it may well be along those lines, but I love the gadgets that Tlos has created. I am, however, a simple man at heart, so the tools I make will probably be brassy Victorian variations of the original with some embelishments. Just apologies all round for having such little time to create and post, etc. I'm sure those with offspring and families will understand, and those without...enjoy your freedom while you can! Lol! I wouldn't wish it any other way (sorry, sweetheart! ...I have to be careful because I've just been given the go ahead to look for a nice new desktop PC!! Yay! Despite the British Gov. putting VAT up to 20% !!! Boo!)
@ Triskelli: Ha ha! Many thanks again, mate. If I can still make you drool, I'm definately doing something right, I guess. After all, you're the resident expert on all things Steampunk, as far as I'm concerned! :biggrin.gif:
Love the artwork and ideas in the Leviathan Trilogy. Beautiful stuff! When I've some spare coppers I think I'll order the first book in the series. Thanks, Triskelli.
@Tlos: Everything is looking mighty fine and way better being darker. Apologies for not bumping to the top...I better get on to that. :sad.gif:
In general: It occured to me that it may not be possible to have a cool looking paddlesteamer boat, because the textures for the side of the boat also wrap around to the front...I think! So any paddle wheel on the side will also show up on the front too! I'll keep experimenting though and work along similar lines to the minecart, with some riveting goodness! :smile.gif: [see edit below]
I did make an interesting discovery with the minecart. I didn't realize that there is an 'underside'! So when I upload the next update, have a look for the shadowy details of the underside. sadly there's nothing I can do about the way the cart seems to float when you look at it from below (all you suspended railway builders, beware!).
edit: Just discovered that it will be possible to turn it into a paddle steamer! The lower of the two side panels is distinct on either side and not part of the wrap-around that exists with the top half. Not many pixels to play with, but should be enough to hint at paddle wheels. Yippee! :biggrin.gif:
Did you guys see Notch's new blog post? I'm really looking forward to the new water mobs, as well as the paint. (More stuff to modify!)
Now if only movecraft had working submarines, then my dream of exploring the depths in a steampunk diving bell and living among the fishes will be realized.
Glimmar i love you Texture Pack and i was wondering if you were ever going to add steampunk mobs or change the boat to dark wood so it matches the rest of the set thanks
Many thanks, oddball.
My post just above yours ended with me talking about how I am working on that very thing now. Paddle Steamer boat will be coming soon. Remember folks, I'm no modder, so don't go expecting something with a funnel on top and working paddles!! :biggrin.gif:
Excellent variations of the creeper, spider and zombie pig have kindly been done already and are on the first page of this thread. In lieu of me not being able to do them at the moment I will include what's been done in the next update with credit to the contributors. If I get round to doing my own, I'll include those only if I feel they're up to scratch. Only limited by time I'm afraid. Also I like to build too...that's how I keep my interest fired up. :smile.gif:
As I usually only play on 'peaceful', it will probably be the domesticated mobs I'll finish first...'ugly pig' having already been done of course! :biggrin.gif:
HELL YES! that's looks very cool, now make it a bit darker and you've got yourself a winner!
Question...is it possible to make the fence look like black wrought iron? Now that would be freakin' SCHWEET!
Only by making all the wood black I'm afraid, PipeHead, as the fence is derived from the wood block texture (annoyingly, there isn't a seperate texture graphic for the fence). I've been toying with the idea of trying out a black tar painted version of wood, which would further depress the range of colours for the theme, but would result in the fences looking more wrought iron-like. Also I think it would have a negative effect on the way the other wooden items like the craftbench and chest would blend with the wood block. Still worth trying, just to see what it would look like.
@Bloodjack: Thanks for updating the item sheet for folk, I'll stick that at the top when i get a chance and nice gui too. I'm currently working towards completing all those, but there's no harm in having different styles to choose from at the top. :smile.gif:

Minecraft is never anything but exciting and the simple inclusion of a water mob and paint will have enormeous potential...especially the paint for all you dirigible engineers!
Hey Glimmar...That version of my spider on the OP is the old version. There's three actually....that one (32x32) and two of the new one (32x and 64x) (unless you liked that one better :biggrin.gif:)
I messed with the boat last night...that's gonna be a toughie. Especially when I worked for an hour only to realize that all I did was the inside bottom (that you sit in)

Don't worry, mate! It's just me getting behind on things. :sad.gif:
Your latest version of the spider is awesome, I've just not got round to adding it at the top. The first one was excellent too, so although I'll be including your latest version with my next update, I think I leave your first variation up as an alternative. With everyone starting school tomorrow, I'm a bit rushed off my feet getting real life stuff finished. I'll fix it soon though. I'd been going through all the pics of builds, then got side tracked on the textures. I work pretty chaotically I'm afraid. Lol :smile.gif:
I know what you mean about the boat, but I finally figured it with a colour plan and then looked at my guestimate in Minecraft and barring a little mistake I'd figured out where everything should go. It at least showed me that it would be possible to include paddlewheels on the side, so I'm happy about that, but the top part is still a muddle with bits wrapping around...so that part can't have side-specific textures, only inside and outside distinctions. Still there's scope for some nice dark wood and iron and plenty of rivets. As soon as I get a rough draft I'll post a pic and then work on putting an update together.
How come everytime I start putting an update together, Notch does the same and makes my work obselete! :biggrin.gif: I just need to work faster I suppose, but this game making business is for younger guys than me! Lol!
When I get the boat done I'll post a pic of the plan I made too...if I remember!
im really excited for the next update on this pack, those item sets look amazing...
meanwhile, been doing some more work on my cpu map.
had some fun after someone kindly showed me how to build posts...the industrial chandelier
modified terrain.png and used one of the alt textures for the netherrock as my circuit paths:
eventually this space will hold a register for holding input/output calculations of the alu:
glimmar: i know a bit about java and 3d objects, im looking at the code for boats and seeing if i can actually add real steam paddles to the boat. im still in the learning stage, so no promises on when, but I will give it a try. dont jump on me all at once, Ive yet to compile anything for MC. I might go the modloader way and see if that makes it easier.
I love it this tottaly removes the medieval feeling (thats a good point) and is really an total conversion
ooh and about the bow maybe you could make something like a fantasy kinda small crossbow like this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IoKyba98jXs/S ... 3_1110.jpg and this flintlock pistol kinda crossbow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cross ... G_3841.jpg also the sound fits it better then a bow i think
and of the record this texture pack beats all the rest out there
How be this?
And with the item sheet, an update. I added the new items (third row down), and I switched the gold and diamond axes to make it more consistent.
This is a sort of an apology, I was planning on fixing my wooden shovels, as well as making some stone ones, but I was completely swamped all day...

MINECRAFT STEAMPUNK VID
Hey, everyone! I'm feeling very guilty about neglecting the awesome Vernian Process music and it's potential. I really want to make something myself to do the music and their generosity justice, but just don't have the time at the moment with trying to update textures and holding a family at bay.
If anyone felt inclined to make a movie of their Steampunk world builds, using this theme pack and tracks from Vernian Process, that would be very much appreciated. :smile.gif:
Any good submissions will get a good spot at the top and I'll notify Vernian Process too, so they can see how cool your imagination is too!
im really excited for the next update on this pack, those item sets look amazing...

There's something abstractly sculpturally beautiful about your builds, MaudDib. Wonderful work and pics again!
As regards the possibility of moving paddle wheels...you'd be fulfilling every Minecraftian Steampunk's wildest dreams. You know I'm not the fastest worker around here, so take your time and nobody will blame you if it turns out it's not possible. The mere idea is enough to get us all daydreaming. Even a simple un-animated tube like chimney on the top of the powered minecart or boat would get me drooling and if the smoke particle graphics could be applied to the top of it, we'd be a 100% closer to having a real looking steam engine. Come to think of it, if this chimney could be fixed on anything we chose to have it fixed on...imagine the vast evil engines and mills of darkeness we could create.... sorry I'm getting carried away again. :biggrin.gif:
It's a thought though! The two biggest visual treats this texture pack could benefit from would be a moving flywheel/paddlewheel animation that could be fixed on the side of things and a smoking chimney top. Almost any type of Victorian style of machine could be cobbled together one way or another, combined with painting transfers and now thinking about Notch's anouncement of paint being introduced at last. So much potential!!
I'd love to be selfish and say this is perfect for just this theme, but [puts on his altruistic hat] you realize that if you pulled off a rotating paddlewheel and thereby an animated 'wheel' you'd be making one of the most amazing modifications out there and you should get proper credit for it and have your own thread. [puts his selfish hat back on] But please, please see if you can do a steamer paddlewheel for us first!

Just had a crazy Steampunk inspired idea. I'd like to build the city of Tarant (from the Steampunk CRPG Arcanum) :biggrin.gif:
Then put it on an SMP server, so people who love Arcanum can join and build all the other cool places of the Arcanum world and fill the spaces with additional steampunk awesomeness.
That's another amazing idea too! If you started something like that, I'm sure you'd have many flocking to join in. I know PipeHead has his own private server for all his marvellous airships. I'm a bit of a lone builder by nature, but I'd be very tempted out of my fortress of solitude to come and visit a thriving steampunk city from time to time.
I hope you manage to get something started and my best wishes, mate! :smile.gif:
