glimmar, you are outstanding, the quality of this pack is going from strength to strength and you just keep making it better. Apparently your inspiring to the community too, well done.
good to see you active in other threads too. I can't wait to see what this pack entails in the future.
oh and even thought the boats small, it would be cool if it was a paddle steamer, they always seemed very steampunk to me. Keep up the great work mate.
i was wondering if i can get a download to the world that the badass pics are coming from in the op i am rather bad at designing anything except for fallout shelters and rediculously high castle walls (though i had a pretty cool building and world going till a mod ruined it >.>
Fabulous steampunk spider there, Gestankfaust. Oh for steam and mechanical clanking sounds too! You have excelled yourself and given everyone a nice New Year pressy too. Well done, mate and many thanks for your time and effort.
May I include this in my next update?

Many thanks, dorianGREY. :smile.gif: Anything I do comes from the infinite possibilties that are Minecraft and the most excellent enthusiasm of it's users, like yourself and everyone else. It's great to be a part of it all. I guess I'm just fulfilling all those boyhood daydreams where I used to sketch little machines and gadgets in my old school exercise books...only now I get to play with them in an infinite computer generated world and share them with like-minded peeps. All pure win!! :biggrin.gif:
I'm also definately in agreement with you on the paddlesteamer idea...I'll see what i can do with that and the railcart. Keep up the enthusiasm, mate! :biggrin.gif:
Heres a couple more screenshots of new textures I've been playing with:
New Clay (perhaps?):
Strange choice I know, but I like the idea of coming across areas of material in a Steampunk world that look like the remains of someone elses activity. Perhaps a little too close to the black cast iron block...? There's a glimpse of the new brick texture with it's extra course of bricks.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! Thanks again for all the input, enthusiasm and ideas, folks. Hope you all had a good New Year's Eve. I watched the latest 'Predator' movie with my family...not a bad movie at all. :smile.gif:

Yes, I think the design is too close to your impending IronBlock. And the color choice is hard for me...and here's why. We already have a brownish netherstone to build with. We need something that either brings a bit of color, bluish steel is my preference, or lightens things up a bit. How about a steampunk rendition of what we call diamond plate?
On a personal note, I struggle to build with the limited color palette that MC offers and with this texture pack we are even more confined. Or maybe it's the textures themselves...what ever it is, and I am NOT blaming anyone, especially you Glimmar, I'm just feeling the limitations and as such my creativity.
I found this video while looking for some steampunk images. I thought it was pretty cool and i wanted to share it. OK, it's not strictly steampunk but it's definitely in the spirit and on the lighter side. I present to you, "Fighting Trousers" by Professor Elemental! A single from his self-proclaimed, very first steampunk hip hop album. Who knew there was such a thing?
P.S. By the way, I don't like your tweed sir! ::Runs away before Glimmar can put on his fighting trousers!:: =D
It says it doesn't work for beta, I am not sure if that is true.
It works just fine with beta. Check the OP for instructions on installing Glimmar's Steampunk texture pack. He has full instructions there. It says compatible with version 1.2.6 in the OP but it will work with beta. Use Xaus MCpatcher version 1.1.10_01. There is a link to it at the top of the OP.

OMG...this is freakin' hilarious. I am going to have to buy a copy.
I hate to ask such a noobish question, but how do I get my water to use the alternate, more aqua-green water? I know a total n00b question, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.

are you using the default minecraft water? the aqua green water just comes up for me i didnt do anything special, did you check off custom water when you used the patcher thing?

I did leave the custom water option checked when I did the Xau's HDPatcher!
Strange. Maybe you might try redownloading and repatching once more, just to see if somethings wrong? (Everything, the texture pack, your bin, and the patcher.) Those are the only things that I can see that could cause the problem.
The way I have to get the customs (biome foliage and grass, water/lava) to actually work...and it's a pain to have to do often, it to add them to your .jar file. Foliage and grass go into the misc folder, lava/water into the jar directly. Once this is done, and after Xau's patcher, as long as you don't mess with the .jar file (including, but not limited to, using Xau's again), it will stay what color you patched MC for (Glimmar's customs from his pack added to the jar for example).

New Look Mine Cart:
Not sure about the colour. I do like the green, and it is a traditional colour here in the uk for old steam engines and the like, but I can't help thinking a darker colour, or black, might look a little more classic and less 'Thomas'. Black may also work better with the furnace and chest inserts. Perhaps in time a range of colours for everyone to choose from?
Like you say Pipehead, we need a little more colour variation, but it's difficult to do without making the theme too gaudy and less sinister. I'll always plump for sinister! Lol! I've been working on another clay variation though that leans towards the blue panel look, rather than the rusty girder I showed. All will be included somehow on the terrain.png. for folks to choose.
@aageon: Beautiful texturing and thank you for the nod in my direction..you are more than kind to an old man! :smile.gif: That fantasy pack of yours is gorgeously rich and dark.
@Pipehead: Not sure why your not getting the green water texture. Admittedly I'm still using Minecraft v1.2.6 ('cos I can't bear to do without my favourite mods...especially 'Wild Grass'), but I've always managed to get the pea green water with Zau's latest patcher and animated too! I think the advice from Tlos is probably the best. Complete redownload, then zau's patcher, then MrM's Better Light, etc. You shouldn't need to uncheck animated lava/water though unless zau's patcher is out of date. Mine animates just fine! :smile.gif:
It is also important to point the 'MC Patcher' to my texture pack location in the Minecraft texture pack folder. You do this by ticking the 'Texture Pack' box and browsing to the Minecraft texture pack folder.
Gestankfaust has it right too, at least as far as the biome colours. Some parts of the pack just don't get recognised by Notch's texture pack coding. Usually I don't have a problem with water and lava, just the biome colours. As good as the idea of having a texture pack folder was, I think it's really just added a lot of confusion to the scene. Great for 16x16, but without lots of little confusing instructions, I'm guessing lots of folk who are trying higher resolution textures for the first time, are missing out on lots of little touches and getting a false impression of how fiddly it all is. It really doesn't need to be like this and it's a bit of a shame really. However, Notch is committed to 16x16 and it's his game and right to keep it pure and simple.
If and when you get the game to how you like it, do what I and others do, which is save your entire working Minecraft 'bin' file somewhere safe and whatever Notch introduces, you've always got something to swap back to. I better update the post at the top to inform peeps that the pack does work with Beta! :sad.gif:
Pipehead/Bonehead: I've bumped a couple of your build pics to the top of the thread and deleted a couple of my old pics.
@Telgar: That vid of 'Fighting Trousers' is classic! Curse you though...my secret is out, and half naked too. Everyone now knows what I look like, but at least I've got rhythm...sir.
...now on to the paddle steamer boat...if it's graphically possible!
@Glimmar: I like the green minecart too. I work with an old chap from Australia who is in love with trains and one day he showed me just a small snippet of his photo collection...and he had a shot of an old steam engine that was a similar green. Thanks for putting up the pics. I am again deeply honored! We definitely do NOT want gaudy, but a well placed splash of color can change the whole feel of a project. I'm sure whatever you come with will kick ass...you've come this far! I'll be wiping out my client and attempt to get my water working, thx. And your secret is safe with us ;-)
Glimmar, I'd just like to thank you for making such an intricate and epic texture pack. A while back I had gotten interested in the whole steampunk thing, but slowly began to forget about it. You've reignited my love for steampunk! And it just fits Minecraft so well!
I am however, having a problem with the underwater helmet (pumpkin- something?). It doesn't appear! I go underwater, but it seems to be the regular view. I used xua's patcher, and all went well, I'm just a tad confused.
Anyways, keep up the good work!
P.S. Mind me asking what you use to make your textures? I know when I started, I used Paint.net.

Did you find a pumpkin on the ground?
Did you put the pumpkin on your head in place of your armor's helmet?
That's how you get the diving helmet...it has nothing to do with being under or in the water.

Also you need to uncheck the animated water and animated lava boxes when you use Xau's patcher or it will override the texture packs water and lava.
