Progress report:
I've put my items into a slower production rate, so that I may improve upon them and so that I may have time to put towards them. In the mean time, I felt like showing a progress report on my airship...
It burnt down... Luckily, I had a backup of about an hour of work before this, so not too much was lost.
PS: don't light your engine in a spot that is close to the deck...

Why did it take me ten times to append this?
OMG, I almost had the exact same thing happen to me when I lit my boiler #1 in my latest airship the GMS Valkyrie. Luckily I was able to fend off the flames. At least you only lost an hours worth of work! See my next post for the Glimmar's Magnificent Ship Valkyrie, aka GMS Valkyrie. This one gives me chills just looking at!
Mine, or PipeHead's? I incorporated the lazy method and used InvGrid. PipeHead probably actually did the work. If so, then he deserves some diamond for his hard work . Hell, might as well give him a Notch lol!
Edit: Yes, I DO realize that it was a rhetorical question. Ignore me :smile.gif:
Before I get into the blow-by-blow with the pictures, I have to give a HUGE thanks to Vernian Process! I listened to ya'lls music nearly the entire time I spent building the GMS Valkyrie. It was absolutely the most inspired I've felt in years about anything.
I also watched a short animated feature that will give any steampunk fan goosebumps up one side and down the other...The Mysterious Geographical Explorations of Jasper Morello - . It's a bit dark, by design, but is all steampunk.
DISCLAIMER: I used a plugin for hMod called WorldEdit that allowed me to build this magnificent airship. When I get into the mood to build I don't want to waste it mining for all the materials and except for a few minor spheres and cylinders most everything was laid by hand. I did use MCEdit to lift the her up off the ground. I hope you don't hold this against me?
I open with a teaser night shot. This is taken from the gangway of the Dirigible SkyRaider that I've posted previously. But it gives a good sense of the size of the GMS Valkyrie.
Next is another night time shot, this time from the ground looking at the port side of the bow. You can see the bow thruster all lit up nice and pretty!
OH MY GOD, is that not a beautiful site to behold!? This elevated day time shot of the starboard bow really gives you a perspective on her length and overall size.
You'll have noticed so far that the GMS Valkyrie is not a dirigible assisted airship, but is instead a propeller lift airship. As much as I appreciate the clean look of the large double rotors, a magnificent craft such as this needs a bit more power than the twin rotors can deliver. So I added 3 powerful sky thrusters; One starboard and one port with a third transom mounted thruster. The transom thruster can rotate a full 120 degrees side to side, thus acting as the rudder. I must say, this is one of my favorite shots of the GMS Valkyrie. Also, please don't fail to notice the Poop deck.
So we can all see the top deck, I jumped on top of the Dirigible SkyRaider parked next door and took this next picture. The lighting, the swimming pool complete with a tall fountain, the helm station amid ship, the port thruster and Her flag are all visible.
Here's a view from just above and behind the helm looking forward. Those huge rotors span 43 meters...the fore and aft rotors are linked and synchronized so they will never hit each other...cause when you're cruising the skies, rotors smacking into each other is very bad.
A similar shot as the previous but on the other side of the helm and looking aft. Don't you wish you could be lounging in the pool sipping on a Mai Tai?
The last shot is anti-climatic, but hey, this is what almost burned down the whole thing. This is boiler #1 down in the belly of the ship. It sits directly below the aft rotor.
I hope you enjoyed my latest creation, I know I had an immense amount of pleasure building it and even more pleasure in sharing it. I guess that's Minecraft is all about. I'd like to thank Glimmar and the others who have contributed to this texture pack. I would also like to again thank Vernian Process for their musical contribution and the inspiration I took while listening.
A small airship of American build, owned by a private navigator, and mostly used on expeditions into regions like the Amazon or the African savanna.
As you can see the ship portion itself is built mostly of wood, with a sturdy iron keel and the engine area encased in iron.
She is driven by three large props and four outrigger motors, all powered by a pair of steam engines housed in the rear. Due to this somewhat disproportional power, the Vanguard is a very speedy craft, even for the normally-ponderous airship class.
The engine room is extremely cramped, dimly lit by redstone torches and the furnaces heating the boilers, and is dominated by the boilers and engines.
This is the only indoor lounge space in the ship. It isn't exactly much, and is pretty noisy due to the neighboring engine area...
These are the cabins. Interior shots are not provided due to their extremely cramped conditions.
This is the "grand entrance" one would see upon ascending the gangplank. Much like every other part of the ship, it is extremely short of space.
This is the captain's quarters. Unlike the rest of the crew, the captain is afforded a somewhat livable amount of space, though it still isn't much.
The cockpit has a very good view of the area around and below the bow, making for excellent and precise landings, but the pilot lacks visibility of the rear and sides and requires assistance from the crew on deck.
And this is the deck itself. Though often battered by the elements, it is a favorite area for the crew because of its contrast to the cramped, hot interior.
I built her without any kind of "cheating" except for using infinite materials. Everything was constructed by hand, even the dirigible segment.
This pack is getting better and better; no surprise. Well done on the new update, I LOVE it. :]
Anyway, just a small suggestion. Could you perhaps make the half steps a little more similar to the cobblestone texture? Maybe it's just me, but the half steps seem a little out of place in this texture pack.

I like the look of your dirigible section...it has a steamlined feel to it, giving the impression that it is faster than a normal rounded blimp!
I like the retaining harnesses as well, nice and evenly spaced.
I am also liking the forward, bow set helm section...very clever and it adds that touch of steampunkishness that every good design needs.
But I especially love your outrigger propellers and engine room. I love how the props have that small wooden drive shaft, very cool. And the engine room looks like an engine room. I always have a tough time with the finishing details...maybe I should open up my server and allow some of you finish carpenters to put the finishing touches on my 2 airships?

Excellent work Zaffa, job well done!
Hah, thanks PipeHead! Oh, about the engine room. I actually filled the boilers with water despite its utter invisibility unless you breach one. Accidentally wiped out all the pipes and torches once because of that! xD
As for that server idea, I'd love that. I never have much to do on SMP and I do love detailwork. :3
I hope Glimmar hasn't already leaft by the time I've posted this.
Glimmar, could you please make a vanilla Steampunk pack, I'm not that good at installing mods and after trying 5 times to get the Wild Grass and everything else to work, the texture worked but the shadows only worked on half a square and it looked awfull. So pretty much remove the Xtreme artpack, Wild Grass, and possibly the new foliage biome colours. Unless you could combine them with the texturepack (except the foliage colours) with BL and 303's Grappling Hook.
Sorry if theres any trouble.

Finished my first mob today. In honor of the Steampunk community and Glimmar for the pack...
Not quite done. but my eyes are tired

*Oh...and never got to see it very good in action. I'll try and get a screen of it with or without dying
+night=how I normally see them
*EDIT - between these forums and photobucket...I have no hair left. Link broken due to bandwidth (thanks to PB). Finally got the link fixed (no thanks to the forums)

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
I'm really really sorry about the lack of updates, I was going to try for the stone picks today, but I seem to have contracted a bad case of food poisoning. I'll get to work as soon as I'm feeling better.
Edit: I got bored being sick, enjoy;
A stone pickaxe, with my own flair,
and a dolabra!
Unfortunately, I noticed that the colors on the item sheet were acting really strange, all of the colors started flaring up and looking grotesque. I'll fix it when I get the chance, and when I finish all of the tools, I'll try to make another video about them.
sorry!!! the forum was wery wierd that time and it was late here. i thought i pressed the edit but i pressed the quote button!! and i said that i was going to say.
Being sick is boring. A nice iron pickax, a bit bland, but servicable. A nicely weighted mining hammer, with two sides!
Also, updated item sheet! I might add text in a bit, and I'll try to make it not as bunched.
how do you get images??? ive got a steam revolver bow and conical flask buckets but i cant upload them!
Do you have a photobucket or imageshack account? Those are the most commonly used image hosting sites. After that you just copy and paste the link to the image inside [IMG] tags.
