Can we pretend you have some diabolical drilling machine at your disposal?
Yes! That's what I was imagining. A dirty great big obsidian screw tipped beast of a machine...and it's somewhere in the distance still spinning it's way through another mountain! Lol! :biggrin.gif: I'm imagining Foomonchoo riding in the cockpit, oily longcoat and steampunk goggled smudgy face, shouting, "WHAT!", above the racket and grind of the beast machine. That's why his comments are quite short!! Lol :biggrin.gif:
Maybe he has some sort of portable TBM tipped with diamond and obsidian digging away with goblins working it.
I have a suggestion as for the weapons or tools, if you ever played the MMO Neo Steam you would notice the weapons that uses the liquid called neo steam has small viles of it why not do that with the weapons and tool?

I could try adding small vials of redstone to the diamond tools I'm making.
Edit: Here we are, I added a vial to my gauntlet, included it as an alternate. here it is, I also changed a few other features.
And here is the updated sheet.
Has anyone tried the harpoon gun as a fishing pole replacement?
Sadly, I've not had chance to try it yet. I'm hoping it works ok, because Tlos has done a great job on the artwork and I'd like to edit the little float hook to look more like a dart (ala mini-harpoon). It will still have to look right as a float though, for use when fishing.
If I get a chance, I'll edit the float before I upload my next little update tomorrow (Sat).
The harp rifle does not make a good fishing rod, unfortunately. I could make it so that it worked, but your stick would then be another rifle, and that would be confusing.
The way the rod works is that when you use it, it changes the item sprite to that of the stick, so that it appears that you've swung the rod and the line is cast. When you use the harp rifle, not only are you pointing at your own head, but when you swing, it changes instantly to the likeness of the stick.
In short, I could do it, but it would complicate building far more than needed due to the stick being replaced by the rifle.

Oh! :sad.gif: That's a shame. I'll have a look at it tomorrow. Thanks for your efforts, Tlos. Perhaps a modder out there might be able to do something that properly converts the action of the fishing rod into that of a harp rifle. I know there are a couple of grappling hook mods, so anything is possible that uses the fishing line mechanics. :smile.gif:
I just fancied the idea of harpooning a few animals in lieu of a big shark, a bit more believable than hooking an animal with a fishing line.
The harpoon gun does look a bit off, same with the bow, which needs to b more sideways not up and down. Looking good btw. Any chance of steampunking the mobs? looking forward to boiler tank creeper. Anyone kno if it's possible to change creeper hiss to more high pitched and like steam escaping.

I would love to have had the items how I wanted them, but unfortunately, limitations. I would have made the gauntlet fully three-dimensional, same with harpoon canon, but I can't. I also would have put the bow on it's side, but again, I can't. When you edit the items file, it takes that sprite, puts it sideways, and makes it one "pixel" wide. Nothing I can do about it. Sorry.

I thought of a decent stone or wooden pickax replacement- A doublejack, like you could find among miners or railway workers. Nothing like swinging a big ol' sledgehammer around.
And cool factor notwithstanding it makes a little more sense than a cane. :/
This pack looks amazing. I'll be trying it out as soon as I get my gaming rig back together.
Just to stick my nose in where it ain't needed, I thought I'd suggest an alternative image for the sun. Astrophotographer Alan Friedman put together this awesome composite that kind of exploded my tiny brain:

That pic is indeed amazing! The sun I put together was based on this and other pics of the sun to get that dying red sun texture. If you look closely at the sun texture I did, in the file or very closely in game when it first rises or sets, you should notice the tiny little wisps of hydrogen/helium/photons (?) (I'm waiting for experts to chip in here! ) blasting out from the edge...just like in your pic!
And no way are you sticking your nose in where it aint needed. Without everyone's input, ideas don't come to fruition! Good luck with the gaming rig, mate! :biggrin.gif: Hope my pack doesn't disappoint too much. Just try and get the 'Better Light' and 'Wild Grass' mods working together with it and you'll be sorted! Bearing in mind that Notch's update on the 20th will break everything again!
My update should be up soon! That is if I can fight my way past the family revellers here! Gah! Anyone would think it was Christmas or something! :biggrin.gif:
I do find astronomical pics like that awe inspiring. As a side note: I had been thinking along the lines of trying to replace my moon texture with an alternative mega steampunk colony ship, battlecruiser, etc. orbiting the world. Not sure how it would work, but might be interesting. Too many other more urgent things need what little time I have spending on them - like steampunk monsters, art and items, etc. :biggrin.gif:
I won't have all the parts back by then, so it looks like I might have to wait until everything's sorted in the beta. Could be worse.
Installing this pack is my #1 priority once I'm up and running though. I spent all day yesterday reading this thread at work.
I actually quite like your current moon image, but if you were to change it, how about something like Mimas, Hyperion, Iapetus, Enceladus, or one of the other natural satellites?
The idea appeals to me, not just as an astronomy nerd, but also because an alien satellite that at first glance could be our own Moon but on closer inspection very much isn't adds to the sort surreal almost-otherworldliness of Steampunk.
I kind of feel like an orbiting spacecraft is leaning a bit too far towards scifi (though if you are that way inclined, you need to read Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series).

I know what you mean about about the space ship idea. I have everything by Alastair Reynolds, including the RevelationSpace series - one of my favourite authors. I'll have a look at those pics as soon as I can, but definately like the idea of a kind of steampunk satellite.
I'm just getting my head around my next little update. There seems to be more work involved in uploading and explaining everything, than creating new textures. That's why I'm looking forward to a Christmas break, phew! Lol! :biggrin.gif:
A little bit of a complicated one this time, due to a number of changes, giving you the choice to try out some new mods. Also, I am away for the Christmas Hols, so won't be around to help. So I am trying to explain things as well as I can now! :smile.gif: My texture pack works fine. Any mods you decide to install, you do so at your own risk!
First of all, DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR WORKING minecraft 'bin' folder. then you can always return to how things were, before trying this out! Also it's a good idea to make backups of your world save files. It's always wise to start with a clean fresh install of Minecraft, install the MC Patcher, followed by the mods of your choice. In any event don't hold me responsible. A good rule here is, if you don't know what the minecraft.jar file is, or where it's located, then perhaps you shouldn't attempt to use some of the mods highlighted here:
More Steampunk Paintings!
Want more paintings on your walls? Then included is a new extended Steampunk art file (called 'Xtreme_art', located in Glimmar's texture pack for convenience), courtesy of Tiger4Ruler:
This gives you the option to use the mod 'More Paintings' (Xtreme edition) by Travis. This is not activated as standard, in case it conflicts with some other mod you have. To activate Tiger4Ruler's Xtreme_art, you will need to download the latest mod here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=100222
Follow the mod makers instructions. I'm not responsible for the mod, nor for getting it working and the 'Xtreme' artwork is provided by Tiger4Ruler. Thanks go to Tiger4Ruler and the mod creator. :smile.gif: I like to keep things simple, but the art provided by Tiger4Ruler is first rate!
Wild Grass
Want to try out the new 'Wild Grass' mod by ejhopkins? You do? Well, download the latest version of the mod here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=100771
...and really beautify your worlds with natural looking 'growing' grass that is subject to biome differences of colour, density and height. I've provided the necessary 32x32 grass textures in the pack. Just add the class files (but not the terrain.png - you don't need the one that comes with the mod as that's only 16x16!) manually to your minecraft.jar using 7zip.
I've provided the appropriate textures, but I do not provide support for getting the mod to work. It works fine for me, but I don't have the time to support problems you may have with getting this to work on your system! Here's a screenshot of wild grass in action with my new biome colours. New Biome 'Foliage' and 'Grass' Colors
In tandem with the 'Wild Grass' mod, I've made new foliagecolor.png and grasscolor.png files to further randomise the look of the landscape and in my opinion they especially compliment 'Wild Grass' (these files are in the 'misc' folder in Glimmar's Steampunk Texture Pack).
Note: not everyone knows that Minecraft's Texture Pack manager(?) doesn't load these into Minecraft from the texture pack by default. Hopefully Notch will fix this sometime. However, if you manually copy these files into the 'misc' folder in the minecraft.jar file (don't forget to save backups of the Minecraft originals), they will work as intended. You will need something like '7zip' to open your minecraft.jar to make these minor changes. If you don't like them, simply swap the original files back in to the 'misc' folder.
These will most likely need further editing, because I haven't had the time to test out all the biome types...I'm happy with the way they randomise the landscape I've travelled through, but you might not be (the colours can get quite extreme in the jungle areas!).
New Steampunk Title Screen
Kindly provided courtesy of Telgar. Make sure you start the game in a window, until you get to Minecraft's main menu screen, or you won't see it! Once at the menu, you are free to make the game full screen, if that's how you normally play. This is in the texture pack so you don't need to do anything else. :smile.gif:
New Netherplate Menu Background!
Courtesy of my youngest son, under instruction! :smile.gif: A more appropriate Steampunk background than the usual default dirt tile. A right rivetting background!! In the texture pack and requires no tweeking.
Various Terrain Texture Tweaks
Fern plant toned down to better fit the 'Wild Growing Grass'
Clay changed from marble blue to rusty metal, for what I think will be a more useful texture.
Crops toned down from the cheesy cheetos look-alike.
Coal with added deposits of green crystal gas - well you always wondered where the colour in my lamps came from! :smile.gif:
The float/hook for the fishing rod has been converted slightly for use as a 'harpoon dart', so check out the Harpoon gun by Tlos on page 1 of this thread.
First Animal Mob by Glimmar
The ugly little Tamworth pig! :biggrin.gif: Make sure you carry a mirror and don't look him directly in the eye!! You have been warned. I'll do the others over time as and when I get the chance, including Steampunk monsters!
Handheld Torch Light
This is another mod I've been playing around with, with great success, considering how dark and ominous our Steampunk worlds can get, especially with the green gas lamps. Incredibly atmospheric to use and makes exploration seem more natural. Works perfectly with Ambient Occlusion/Better Light to further enhance the steampunk feel of lanterns and dark foggy streets. Better still, while it's held in your hand, use it underwater with my Diving Helmet for those long sessions underwater. Don't forget to take a pumpkin lantern too, just in case! Download 'Hand Held Torch' here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=105332
I will try and do a video of my world to illustrate some of the above. Tiger4Ruler already has a vid of his Xtreme Paintings on page 1.
Hope you have fun...and a Happy Christmas and Successful New Year to you all! :biggrin.gif:

If you use Minecrafter to load your pack, it fixes the grass and foliage color without having to mess with any of the files mentioned above.
1.You just Run Minecrafter
2.Select New
3. Click the little green plus sign and add the pack to the list. Then save it.
4.Go to the options tab and checkmark the box for HD fix. (It is the latest HD fix based off Xau's)
5.Go back to the main menu, select the pack then Launch Minecraft.
This will create a temporary .jar that doesn't mess with your original so when you close out of Minecraft and start it again without Minecrafter, you won't have to worry about black screens and such! You should still be able to switch through texture packs even when using Minecrafter. I hope this helps you out Glimmer!
