Just a little heads up...don't use Optifine pre5+ until I update to GSv21. MCPatcher is no longer supported in pre5 and I will need to update for this.
If you really want to try out Optifine pre5+ and you have the heart to tinker with my pack, you can try the following that worked for me:
Just copy the entire contents of Glimmars Steampunk WIP v20/assets/minecraft/mcpatcher folder in my resource pack over to the /optifine folder.
edit: Optifine from pre5 onwards isn't backwards compatible with the old mcpatcher folder, meaning the mcpatcher format is no longer supported with MC1.13+. With all the other changes introduced by Mojang this was the sensible time for Optifine to introduce this change.
Phew! Nobody knew glazed_terracotta could be so complicated! Well I think some dude said this on the news once.
It certainly was a real pain to do, but it's all done. So now begins the task of shifting all my strange terracotta textures to concrete and possibly concrete powder and make 16 natural dry clay replacements for those Mesa biomes and of course for building purposes.
I'll show you all the results in a vid as soon as I can before uploading GSv21. GS glazed_terracotta is now a mixture of Victorian/Art Deco/Surreal/theatre/circus/architectural exterior/interior wall/floor surfaces, tile, wallpaper, fabric, painted, ceramic, marble materials, depending on how you use them.
Here's a little sneak preview of terracotta evolving into something more natural looking:
......New Natural Terracotta WIP
There are two cracked looking blocks in the middle foreground, these are clay to give you an idea of how it matches up with plain terracotta (the most abundant in the mesa landscape here). All the colored terracotta blocks have many random variations for a more pleasing look, but terracotta has the most due to it's abundance and white terracotta has the next most random collection of textures as I feel it might prove the most useful for building on a city scale.
The sad part of this is that I haven't revisited my city of Newglim yet as nothing will look the same now. However, I have mentioned that I was going to start another more up-to-date world without so many flaws along with my wife (she doesn't have any flaws either!).
Once all the terracotta is done I will move the majority of the old terracotta tile, marble and brick textures to concrete. I had wanted to use concrete powder for some extra building materials without realizing that it behaves just like sand and gravel, so it's capabilities for structural work are pretty stilted...so in the short term I may just use a stand-in 64x powdery texture until I think of something more useful that I and others can use. I am very open to suggestions on this matter.
The full version of Optifine for MC 1.13.1 has been released today. Do not use this version of Optifine until Glimmar's Steampunk v.21 is released.
MCPatcher is no longer supported in Optifine 1.13.1 and I will need to update GS for this.
If you really want to try out Optifine pre5+, you can try the following that worked for me:
Copy the entire contents of Glimmars Steampunk WIP v20/assets/minecraft/mcpatcher folder in my resource pack over to the /optifine folder.
Optifine from pre5 onwards, and the release version, isn't backwards compatible with the old 'mcpatcher' folder, and GSv20 still uses the mcpatcher folder for ctm, extra mobs, better skies, extra animations and other effects. You are still safe to use Optifine pre4 with GSv20.
With all the other changes introduced by Mojang this was the sensible time for Optifine to introduce this change.
So, is it correct to say that Optifine still allows you to do all the old MCPatcher features, but they changed the file structure to make it work? I have heard that Mojang completely redid the file structure/naming scheme this time around.
Mostly, many mcpatcher features are gone, for example lines, better glass, and dials. minecraft 1.13 underwent "the flattening" which completely reworked the structure of how blocks work in addition to changing the names of most blockstates, models, and textures. Allowing for more blocks and features in the future but requiring mods to be reworked. Additionally optifine took this opportunity to remove legacy support for mcpatcher, requiring resource pack makers to compensate (not too difficult, in and of itself,) but it does mean older packs which aren't updated won't work. This change was unannounced and came as a bit of a surprise to those of us like Glim and myself who were working on packs through the gradual update of Optifine.
Just a quick note to say all the new random natural terracotta textures are complete. This amounts to more than 300 individual random terracotta textures (for even greater realism) to join the already finished set of 16 glazed terracotta textures. I am wending my way through the concrete textures by re-working some of the colored marble and re-addressing the rest of the old terracotta brick, tile, plaster, and mosaic textures. Like the terracotta this is still a lot of work re-editing, moving and renaming around 300 textures.
So still slugging it out night by night kicking GS into the future!
Looking forward to it, is the next release of the pack going to be compatible with the latest optifine release?
Thanks, rosestorm. Yes, absolutely.
I'm hurtling forward as quickly as I can so that things aren't so confusing with Optifine use.
Hah! Things will be confusing enough though with such sweeping changes from terracotta to concrete.
I am still trying to convert as many textures as I can to random versions so that the pack is not so Optifine dependent for most blocks, but some special blocks that require vertical or horizontal CTM or the ctm method for nice things like carpets, etc will always need Optifine until Mojang decide to introduce something similar that I can use.
Of course Optifine will still be needed for other wonderful effects like better skies, random mobs, animations on other things besides blocks and items, eg. paintings, gui. Also some other very nice effects have been introduced and some of these will be employed in the GSv21 update...glowing textures and lots of extra paintings.

It's been a long hard slog making all those new textures, editing and renaming all the blockstates and model files (again!). So I'm looking forward to working on some new things for the pack now. Making radically different glazed_terracotta was a really hard challenge and I'm more pleased with some than others.
I'm working on video evidence now! So heading towards the update as soon as possible.
... and if you think you're done, you didn`t watch the new Snapshot in, there is a lot of work waiting for us ... have fun, all the best
Norze
Oh! I'll never be done! I accept my fate that I will be tortured by never being able to catch up...forever slipping behind!
Actually though, I have been looking at Youtube vids of folk playing snapshots of Minecraft 1.14. It looks like there's a lot of new blocks, plants, panda, big 'bull-like' creature thingy mob! Ah well, I can always look on things in a positive way....I'll never run out of things to texture, that's for sure! I'm guessing my eyesight will fail long before I complete the pack.
Let's face it...I'm just too slow and pedantic...oh and a bit weird in my texture style!
.....GS v21 vid 1 - Glazed Terracotta & Lots More Paintings!
This short video is a showcase for the new GSv21 glazed_terracotta. 16 original designs in all.
Designing for glazed_terracotta has been amongst the hardest things I've worked on for Glimmar's Steampunk. Creating designs that can rotate and align with themsleves in different planes was a challenge to say the least!
My intention was to have a good balance of new blocks covering architectural features, exterior and interior wall and floor coverings and blocks that could be used in many different ways. They have been inspired by Art Deco, Art Nouveau, William Morris, Abstract and Surreal themes, Victorian and Edwardian traditional designs, ceramic and fabric textures and theatrical and circus design.
Some designs I am very pleased with and some I'm not so sure of, but they are what they are and I hope you can have some fun out of them. A lot of trial and effort went into just 16 64x64 textures working and re-working ideas many times over! Sorry if you were expecting something based on the Mojang glazed_terracotta designs, I will always try something different for my strange world of retro-future Steampunk. Lol! I don't even do Steampunk in a traditional way!
Optifine now allows for theoretically unlimited paintings on display in Minecraft, this is achieved with multiple 'paintings_kristoffer_zetterstrand' texture sheets. Paintings can also still be animated, so the possibilities are endless! Currently I have added a good number of 64x64 and 64x128 paintings and some new stained glass windows, but when time allows I will experiment with more animations and other ideas I have. Some of the new paintings included in GSv21 feature in this video, a mixture of posters, etchings and landscape and portrait paintings.
I think Xisuma has a video about it

18 random pink_terracotta...au natural.
purple_concrete, 7 random carved white marble frieze sides, 7 white marble slab top and bottoms.
1 purple_glazed_terracotta, classic Victorian wallpaper design forming different designs when rotated.
18 random purple_terracotta...au natural.
18 random red_concrete, red marble tiles.
1 red_glazed_terracotta, William Morris inspired Victorian floral design for walls, carpets, curtains, etc.
18 random red_terracotta...au natural.
60 random terracotta...au natural. There's a lot because you get a lot of terracotta in the mesa biome!
white_concrete, 72 white_concrete sides (actually a much more random, detailed and whiter version of white_terracotta) suitable also for whitewash walls, crumbling plaster, etc, also with 1 diamond_square Edwardian tile top, 1 Baroque opulent_snowflake tile bottom.
1 white_glazed_terracotta, Art Deco white marble abstract design.
60 random white_terracotta...au natural. More randomness as I think it will be used more than any other terracotta block.
18 random yellow_concrete gold mosaic swirls.
1 yellow_glazed_terracotta theatrical/circus design.
18 random yellow_terracotta...au natural.

Curse PremiumOh!

Curse Premium.....GS v21 vid 1 - Glazed Terracotta & Lots More Paintings!
Thanks for your patience and thanks for watching.
Incredible work!
