Original Main Post on page one has now been temporarily updated and simplified for future use.
Please note: the pack is still at GS v17 MC v1.8 version, but ready for updating soon to GS v18 MC v1.11.2 Work in Progress (meaning it will work fine with MC v1.11.2, and will have many new and updated textures as featured over the last few pages here, but will still have some missing 1.9, 1.10, 1.11 GS HD textures.
Version numbers on my main page have been removed to enable me to update more frequently in the future without tediously having to re-edit my OP every single time. Version numbers will be associated with the downloads on my Steam/Forge downloads page. Apologies for any confusion in the interim period between finishing my GS v18 update.
Again thanks for your immense patience and understanding. As always real life has many demands.
Found someone which had the same problem who found a way arround.
johnny4life, you are an absolute life-saver. It worked! Thank you so much for taking the time to find this.
You can imagine the time I've wasted on trying to find a logical solution, including trawling the net for an answer, plus all the hours I originally put in to the creating the new hi-res clock and compass, just to be spoiled by a rogue bug.
Obviously my phrasing was off the mark and wasn't dredging up the answer I needed, but your superior detective skills have saved the day andGlimmar's Steampunk.
I'm now smiling from ear to ear.
edit: It was indeed the 'generated.json' file that I had in my pack that was causing the problem. I haven't ever touched this file, but on comparison with the same file in all other working packs, there is a difference in the coding on a few lines. Changed those and put the 'generated' file back in the '/models/item' folder (just in case it's necessary for other processes) and all is still well!
.....GS v18 - More Gizmos, Banners, Armor Stand & Gui, etc.
Glimmar's Steampunk v.18 Ongoing Update for Minecraft
Just tying up more loose ends before I upload the GS v18 update. In the last video I mentioned the GS Sound Pack add-on would also be uploaded at the same time. This has changed to being a 'GS Jukebox Music' add-on pack, so will be released separately with it's own video demo. However, this video will give a little teaser sample from one of the GS Jukebox music 'cylinders'.
Besides getting bogged down finding and fixing literally hundreds of file and folder names with Caps, no longer recognised by Optifine I worked on adding the following textures showcased here in this video:
Click the spoiler button for the list.
New 'armorstand' entity.
New 'wooden_armorstand' item. (but it's riveted cast-iron...what did you expect?!)
New 'banner_base' with brass fittings (what else?)
39 new banner entity designs at 256x256. Including cog design, imperial leader design, skull and tools design and 'GS' design.
Updated 'inventory' guis with big thanks to 'krizmac' who made the process of updating a lot faster by making his own updated 1.11 versions, which I've used as a placement guide for re-editing my originals...requiring a whole day of work. Lots of changes and new animation placements.
Repositioned old animations for new inventory guis.
New 'empty shield' frame item for the new inventory guis.
Added new symbols to inventory gui to bring it up to date with Minecraft 1.11.
Worked on brewing gui to gain a better understanding of how it works and made it a little more practical to use until I can finish it. Repositioned the item slots.
New cauldron.
New 'riveted iron shield' shield_base
New 'riveted iron no pattern iron shield' shield_base_nopattern
39 new shield enitity designs at 256x256. Including cog design, imperial leader design, skull and tools design and 'GS' design as per banner.
New 128x animated 'steam chainsaw' diamond_axe.
New 128x animated 'steam Jack Hammer' diamond_pickaxe.
New 128x animated 'steam rotavator' diamond_hoe.
New 128x animated 'steam shovel' diamond_shovel.
New sound folder with 'thud' .ogg sound effects.
New gunshot sound effect to replace shared bow/fishing rod sound.
New 'Steam Harpoon Gun' which replaces the old fishing rod, thus fixing the problem of way the same sound sample for the gun(bow) is shared with the fishing rod (now Harpoon Gun)
Changed dye_powder_blue from animated spinning rock back to a 'jar' of lapis rocks. Have been finding the spinning rock to be something of an annoying anomaly.
...and the above is in addition to all the new stuff on show in all previous GS v18 vids which you can see on my Youtube channel here:
Last, but certainly not least, I wasted days of free time over the Easter hols trying to fix the problem of my items displaying mirror fashion in item frames...without success. If it wasn't for 'Johnny4life' on the Minecraft Forums, I'd probably still be uploading GS v18 with 'reversed' items rendering my new compass and clock all but unreadable. Johnny4life managed to track down the solution for me and deserves full credit for rescuing the day! Thanks mate!
The new GS v18 upload will not be a complete update right up to MC 1.11, it will very much be a work-in-progress pack, so will contain everything featured in all the recent videos. It will free me up then to work differently. After the GS v18 update I intend to release a new video and an update after each bit of completed work that will alleviate the pressure I feel in trying to keep up with all the new MC releases, but will allow interested fans to try out new stuff almost as soon as I finish things.
My work/home/leisure time balance has changed dramatically over this past year, but I still enjoy making new textures for and building in Minecraft, so I don't intend giving up...just progressing slowly and at my own pace.
I'll let this video speak for itself now...the last one before the GS v18 update. Thanks for your patience.
Glimmar
Thanks for watching.

I liked everything in the vid, but I feel like the diamond hoe moves a little too fast in my opinion. btw what's left for you to work on
Lol! More a case of, "will I ever catch up!" The answer being, "probably never!", but it means there's always something to tinker with. All the new mobs will definitely be last on the list of things to do, unless I'm intrigued or inspired by something. These days I hardly ever have mobs switched on, and seeing as how I only play on the 'surface' with a broken world it's unlikely I'll get inspired very soon.
I like my tools to look like they can do some real damage!
Seriously though, they are only two frame animations where the rotational movement is an illusion created by flicking back and forth between two positions on the axis. If I were to slow it down the rotational illusion would be lost. Also I didn't want to have over-complicated mechanisms as they could quickly become very distracting in survival mode.
See the tools more like small portable tractor implements like 'seed drills' and tree stump grinders...that kind of thing!
The new stuff looks great, though the tools seems to be upside down.
If you look at the body of a modern chainsaw, which it's kind of loosely based on, I think you'll see the design is about right for it to be held two handed with a grip at the back and on top, so you'd be holding it with both arms extended out front...possibly with a leather strap over your shoulder to carry most of the weight.
Glad you liked...and thanks again for the item mirroring detective work.
I'm hoping to upload the GS v18 Update this weekend sometime. Can't say exactly when, as I'm currently stuck renovating a house and not sure when exactly I'll have some free time, but this weekend is the plan!
The 'Reminder'
The main base GS pack will not now come with 'copper pipes' for redstone dust as standard. It will have some nice crystalline, sparkly redstone dust instead. However, fear not, to get back to my old copper pipe system, you'll need to download a new little add-on pack called 'GS Redstone Pipes'. This add-on pack goes in the Resource Pack folder in Minecraft and is then dragged over to the 'Selected Resource Packs' to sit above the main GS v18 pack...unless of course you prefer to have the sparkly redstone dust trails instead.
...and that was the reason for having the copper pipes now as an add-on pack, it gives you the choice to have one or the other texture. Unfortunately it's not possible to have the pipes as standard and then have crystalline dust as the add-on. For complicated reasons it wasn't possible to do it that way round.
I will upload this little add-on pack as soon as I can after I've edited things over on my Curse/Forge pages. I will need to create a new page over there for this add-on pack, but as I haven't done any editing over there for nearly two years I'll probably be a little slow and rusty.
Here's the video I made that shows the traditional crystalline trail of standard dust and the GS Redstone Pipes add-on pack in action. Just skip to 8:52 to see the relevant part of the video:
SO many nice effects and animations..., and the details and consistency..., very professional.
And the map is astonishing. (is that avail for d/l someplace here?) sorry to sound ignorant for asking
Many thanks! Glad you like the new stuff.
Welcome to the Minecraft Forums, mate.
Haha...I get asked often about 'Newglim', my six year old city world build. I Started it in 2010 and haven't worked on any other world since, other than starting new worlds in 'FeedtheBeast' in survival.
It's a very broken world with lots of glitches now and although updated constantly it's impossible for me to enjoy all the new things in Minecraft these past few years as I've already explored vast areas and even things like villages and mines are none existent.
It's now my relaxing personal testing ground...and as I'm a cranky old 'so-and-so' (imagine Clint Eastwood in 'Gran Turino') I don't like the idea of other people walking around on my lawn!
The new stuff looks great, though the tools seems to be upside down.
Just had another look at my vid again, and I see what you mean. The diamond tool items are displaying the right way up in the inventory and item frame, but they get turned upside down in the hand! Heck! That's another annoying Minecraft trait then.
Going to be a case of deciding which way up to have them then.
I won't make any changes now for this update, but I suppose I could flip the items over for the next update so they're the correct way up for holding in 1st person perspective. It's always possible to manually rotate them when displayed in item frames. Unfortunately that would still leave them upside down in the inventories.
A 3rd option would be for me to edit the design of the 'steam power unit' slightly, so there isn't an obvious 'up' or 'down'.
All this anticipation... I feel like a kid on December 23rd! Everything is really looking (and might I add "sounding") great, Glim!
It's nearly ready, just last minute checks to track down any silly mistakes or place-holders from other packs that I've used to help understand how things work, but I've a busy weekend tiling a RL kitchen too and it's lovely and sunny here in the UK at the mo'...very rare atmospheric conditions probably!
Have updated my Curse/Forge page to get rid of pack version specific references, like my main page here, so that I don't need to keep editing every time I upload an update. That way I'll be more enthusiastic about updating regularly.
