Seriously whoever programed this forum software ought to be shot...ok 3rd try of posting
Lol haha Glimmar now you know why I am happy you took over the helm with the titles ^^
My record so far, is 8 attempts to post successfully. It really is getting very tedious, constantly having to save off a backup, because you know nearly evertime it's not going to work!
I'm not sure what you mean by the titles, Tiger4Ruler. Did you mean to include an image with this post? :smile.gif:
Like the 'Vernian Process' music, it's not built into the texture pack or a mod, it's just a sound file that you play in your favourite player when you work under water. VLC media player is perfect for creating a continuous loop. The video I show as an example is not meant to fool anyone into thinking it is built into the game. If you're doing a lot of in and out diving, just have the sound file playing on a continuous loop, but have the volume down (on the player) when you're on the land...and when you plunge into the water just turn the volume up, to listen to Telgar's lovely bubbly noises! :smile.gif:
Nothing too tricky. Have fun and the great thing is it doesn't break when Notch updates the game! :biggrin.gif:
glimmar when are you going to update this again with items and such things?
I don't want to commit to a date this time just before Christmas. There are too many RL things going on and i don't want to promise something I can't deliver. I have got some things to add, but I'm trying not to do too many updates, as some find this annoying. So...when I've got enough to show something new, I'll upload.
At the very least Tiger4Ruler has sent me something very exciting by way of an extended set of Steampunk paintings. A temporary item sheet is being worked on by others, so I'm holding out a little longer in the hope that we might have that too. So whatever happens you'll get that. I'm just trying to add a little more to make the hassle of updating worthwhile...not that Tiger's stuff isn't worthwhile on it's own! :biggrin.gif:
I will also probably be signing off this forum for a couple of weeks for the Christmas holiday season, during which time I'll try and do something special in my free time for the pack (taking a break from posting is probably the best way I'm going to make some progress!). I will keep an eye out for any Notch updates with regards to xau's MC Patcher, and of course any major additions he makes which might need appropriate changes to current textures. If I'm not around, there are plenty of helpful folks on this thread who will be able to offer advise and assistance if something doesn't seem quite right. That's what makes it special! :biggrin.gif:
@ Glimmar: I'm thinking that it's a great idea, I'd love to help out with it. I'm still trying to think up a name for my shop, though.
If anybody is crazy enough to want it, here is the usable skin for what I did:
Just save it to your computer, go to minecraft.net, click preferences, and switch it out.
Edit: ^Haxjagarn, that looks really nice, seems that it would leave quite a mark.
Tlos, I'll stick this in the new fashion shop at the top for now! Many thanks, mate.
But anyways I took a crack at some things just to see how it turned out. I know a auto crossbow was made up but I decided to just try and make up a steampunk gun based off of this picture (http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs40/f/2009/ ... terego.jpg) and I came up with this item icon based off of gun H
and I made a round shot to replace arrows
I did these in 32x32 but I think you guys are working at higher resolutions, but these were all just a spur of the moment things.
Many thanks, mate! I'll display this at the top with the others. Lovely stuff and like the pics it's based on. :biggrin.gif:
@Glimmar: I just meant the titles/backgrounds Telgar made and you mentioning the resize problem with these.
As for including all the kinda 'particle'-elements mentioned by some concerning steam coming out of powered minecart and even for a steampowered armor or coal, consider it hard to make as 32x32 pixels really every pixel counts ^^
If any good coder would make a MOD for additional particles for the items would be nice :wink.gif:
I agree, there are serious limitations as to what can be done with the minecart, and to get anything that looked like a proper steam engine would require considerable modding skills. However, sirscott, above is feeding me with some cool picks and over my Christmas break from the forum, I think I'll have a go at doing something with the current cart limitations based on those, in particular the cross-country version of the steam tram (the bottom half looks very train like).
It must be born in mind though that I don't wish to change the current furnace to any degree, so unfortunately that will still be the engine sticking out of the top.
Minecraft is still begging for a real honest to goodness steam train in my opinion. It just speaks of forging through virgin territory like the early American pioneers, cutting through mountains and bridging chasms. Long after Notch has finished the game to his satisfaction, I am sure modders will continue to produce things of greater and greater complexity. No-one can stop the incessant march of evolution! :biggrin.gif:
Before I get to work on the new items, is there anything, anything at all that you want me to change about them? I wish that I may fix them promptly if they are off specifications.

@sirscott: Just a quicky 'cos I'm getting out of step replying to posts, but just had to get a quick comment in on the glory that is your world. Simply fantastic construction work there and wonderful example of how to build with the cobble and stone (cobble for filler and capped with stone!). A world begging for a real locomotive and clouds of steam! And that bridge is definately my favourite construction project to date that I've seen using my textures. The use of the 'Netherplate' is exactly how I envisaged it being used and I'm so pleased to get an example like this. The whole design smells and tastes of Victorian and steampunk principles.
It's easy to see you are either a model maker or you know a lot about railways, because you have a feel for the way buildings from that period should look!
I will definately be bumping some of these pics to the top for inspiration, with your permission!
You well deserve many of these: and these:
PS. I wish my old mum was still alive and then I could tell her I've had a great building named after me! :biggrin.gif:
PPS. sirscott, You should really try to get the Ambient Occlusion mod working if at all possible. You will be astounded how beautiful your constructions will look, especially as they look so very, very fine now! I should get some more examples of AO up to try and show folks what a difference it can make.
@sirscott and Triskelli: I'm noting all these different locomotive designs and they will supply me with plenty of inspiration! I ended up watching the 'Polar Express' movie for the first time last night with the kids and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. All the sights and sounds of a big loco, the box cars, bridges and plenty of brass and rivets made it very entertaining.
You've all got me rather jealous now that I haven't got more time to build myself, as I feel a need to move this pack a bit further along for you all! Thank you one and all for the inspiration and pics...you're a good bunch to work for really and it's all worthwhile when I see what you're doing with it! :biggrin.gif:
I've skipped ahead of the posts again, but I'll catch up, don't worry. :smile.gif:
Now I better just update the top with all the goodies you lot have sent in. If it doesn't all get done in one session don't think I've forgotten, I might not have time to do it all tonight!
Hey!
Firstly, awesome mod, been playing around with it and I love it!
Secondly, I tried to use the search function for this but nothing came up so I am sorry if I repeat a former question in this post! So here it goes, is there anywhere to find the recipies for the drills and such? Would love to try it out!
It's actually the exact same as the originals, no recipes changed. This is (for now) just a texture pack, and the differing items are just for enhancing the amazing visuals of the pack.

Aha, I see! Thanks a lot for the reply.
This then means I can make forexample my pickaxe into a drill? By adding the icons in original post into some directory of my Minecraft? Am I driving off a cliff or in the right direction here? :tongue.gif:
More or less, you want to resize your items.png to twice it's original size (if you were using a 16x16 texture pack, otherwise skip this step), open up an item's file (ex. the drill) and copy it to overwrite the pickax if you want, hen you save it and either put it inside the "gui" folder inside the texture pack's zip, or you could put minecraft (.exe, .app, .etc) inside a folder, create a folder inside it called "gui", and put the modified items.png there.
If you need me to explain that better, I could probably whip up some pictures to go along with it... Maybe.
You will also want to patch minecraft.jar for this pack if you hadn't already, just so it won't screw with your textures.

Oh thanks a bunch for all of that! I'm going to try this out tomrrow and I'll come back if I can't figure it out, but it seems pretty clear how you explained it!
Yet again, very appreciated help there! Thanks!
Seriously though, thanks for the extra work on those title screens. I'll choose one for my next update. I was a little disappointed though that unless I start the game in a window, all your excellent work gets lost off screen, bottom right. Not your fault, mate. Just the way the title page gets stretched when I make it fullscreen. I'll just have to put instructions in to run the game at first in a window and then increase to fullscreen when they're at the menu! Unless you know a way round this? I don't want anyone missing out!
Take care, and many thanks again!
Your welcome Glimmar, it was no trouble at all really. You know i always start minecraft in a window. I never noticed that it does that. After you mentioned it though i checked and it sure does. The default mojang title screen behaves the same way when started in full screen. I wish i had a fix for it but i don't know of one. Hopefully there is a lot of players that start minecraft in windowed mode like me. =D
Q: How many Steampunks does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Two, one to change it and a second to glue unnecessary clock parts to it.
Cheers! =)

It's Toby!
I support your call for a locomotive mod, but I'm afraid this probably isn't the best place to ask for it. Awesome pictures, though.
*Edit*
I'm sorry, this thing looks amazing. Sadly, it's fictional, but still mindblowing.
Guess what I'm going to start on next.
another angle
lava in a jar
updated mob trap, works much better
working on the outside
town view (or as much as you can see)
