Try building with sandstone slabs. I think you will find what you are looking for as far as textures.
...
Also, Figured I would show a bit of what I am working on ... especially in the way of bookshelves. I have recently added Gany's Surface mod to my collection. As such, for the mod, wood type bookshelves were added. Well, I had to do a bit of a make over of how I have worked bookshelves.
The Oak Bookshelves will be found in my Alt pack, the rest will be found in the mod texture pack.
Ah, now I see what I was doing wrong. It was the carved sandstone that was changed. My nether temple doesn't have any carved sandstone areas taller than one block.
Nope ... for Gany's Surface mod and an alternate texture for vanilla. My Bibliocraft bookshelves look a bit the same, but, Bibliocraft bookshelves are vertical half slabs. Essentially, one now blends with the other.
Say, since I'm here anyway, I'm wondering if some of you seasoned GS builders might be able to give me some tips with something. I'm working on the city hall for my city (although there isn't really a city yet) and it's looking pretty good, both inside and out, except for the hallways, which are excruciatingly dull. Any ideas on how to decorate them to make them a little more lively?
If you get the opportunity to look at any 19th Century building ... one of the main forms of decoration that I have noticed, especially in the interior, is floor variation. Also, a contrasting base boarding will also help.

I actually meant that why use simple blocks, if models from bibliocraft are fancier?
Also, that fact that Bibliocraft shelves are vertical halfslabs makes them perfect for making a secret passages
Primarily for the purpose of two separate mods, and also for the sake of completion. Besides, I usually set up my Enchanting room with vanilla book blocks - cause it requires less books (or at least I am assuming so). Further, it gives someone the opportunity to use a 64x texture if they are only using vanilla minecraft (well, until Glim comes up with something better than I have )

The problem, see, is that the walls of the hallways are also the walls of the adjacent rooms, which directly border the exterior, so if I change the walls of the hallway at all, it effects the rooms, and I have to change the other walls of those rooms to match, which will effect the exterior. Otherwise, baseboards would be perfect.
I posted approximately one bajillion years ago that I was going to make mod support for Biomes O' Plenty, but I didn't quite realize how long it would take and various life shenanigans getting in the way. But, I figured I'd post some example/progress pictures!
It's probably about 75% done, but I've been avoiding the other 25%. I'll post pictures of all the different woods, stones, and plants arranged out soon.
Most excellent work! I am glad to see pictures at last! I am sure there are folk on here that will be most grateful when you are ready to upload. However, a word on pack completion ... I have found that with the mod work that I have done, there is no good conceivable timeline to getting it all done. Just upload what you have now, and worry about the rest as you get to it. Such as it is with soooooo many textures
I haven't played with biomes o plenty in a long time, but those screenshots are making me want to set it up again. It's looking really good, awesome job!
Sorry I'm having to be away for a while at the moment. This is due to a number of things, but mostly family and work related. It's also that time of year (spring) when I have to do a lot of work on garden and land in preparation for planting (so I'm also having to mess around in the workshop and greenhouse quite a bit in the evening). A number of hospital visits for various long term illnesses for my wife and youngest (fortunately I'm relatively fit and strong at the moment...just drained is all) has meant covering more homemaking tasks (vacuuming, ironing, cooking, washing, etc, etc.). I've also been helping relocate my eldest son which has involved quite a bit of toing and froing about the country. All this has meant little to no leisure time for weeks.
Before everything blew up I'd also been putting together a new all powerful PC with Windows 8.1 and that has taken up way more of what remains of my spare time (and spare money) than I care to think about. I'm beginning to get used to the new operating system, but it's taken an age to organise an orderly transfer of 5 years of files, artwork etc. from my old machine and to reinstate a myriad of favorite and essential programs and peripherals and to coax them back into life under 8.1. (one program and peripheral at a time, so any problems can be narrowed down to the last thing I installed) I'm still not completely there yet and work, family and garden leave me with very little free time, energy and motivation in the evening. On top of which, whenever I get a new machine, my old machine gets passed onto whichever offspring is most in need of a bit more oomph for their games and such, so harddrives need clearing, graphics cards, peripherals and the like all need sorting...machines get passed all down the sibling line!
When I can, I will show what I was working on before everything began to swamp me. I've still managed to do some work on the new GS music pack, but as I'm collecting and hoping to use a selection of tracks of CC copyright sounds and music for each MC record, it's taking quite a bit of time to assemble all the necessary info regarding each track and to edit material to make it useful for different settings, like small rooms, concert halls, factories, public squares, airship, submarine complex, etc. and that's just for the records for now. I'm not even contemplating changing any other sounds at this time as there is still too much necassary artwork to be done.
I've still to get all my old files to work with my new installation of Adobe Premier, so you'll have to bear with me with regard to showing off new stuff, especially the music/sound side of things as that really does need to be shown off in a video!
Here's what I have so far, not including the music work and other necessary edits:
26 random endermites made up of grubs, maggots, beetles and all sorts of variations inbetween.
New sea-lantern.
New glass_blue stained glass - but only tinted stained glass now, instead we have a new black cast-iron bolted frame ideal for glass domes and especially appropriate for undersea re-inforced windows - in short they look the part for large undersea cities, ala 'Bioshock'! square panels bolt together and glass is tinted to give the illusion of thickness and etched dirt at the edges of the glass glows with light from inside and without.
Edited font spacing and reduced width of a a few letters to assist with spacing. Also brightened signage letters.
New cauldron
New bow series - now a turn of the century 128x revolver with new sound effects! It currently fires bullet/darts as bullets alone were difficult to find again.
New sound folder with gunshot and 'thud' .ogg sound effects.
New arrow item
New arrow entity
Apologies for the constant delays, but as soon as things settle back down I will respond to all the posts and PM's above and get back round to updating things like the OP.
Thanks everyone for your long term support, input and interest.
I want to share some cool pictures from my journeys. I've installed Alternate Terrain Generator and BigTrees mods.... and got theese epic fiords.
Pics are big, so be aware.

This was basically what I've seen right after the spawn
Some wandering brought me to this place under big oak.
Shortly after that I've discovered this village. It is technically on the coast, but the ocean is seen only near the water well due to heavily forested forest
After half an hour of nice vievs I've gotten here
That river flows to the swampy shore of big lake. River's delta is very atmospheric.
I think it'll be fun to render all this stuff with shaders. So if anybody knows some minimalistic shaderpack, with shadows and water reflections only - please, give me the link!

Cool bookshelves, by the way.

Glim, is there any chance of getting the birch and jungle leaves updated to 64x in the next update? How is your sound pack coming along?

... just watch the sharp clippy things that bite fingers ;p
I certainly am waiting with baited breath on the new work that you will be publishing!
Thats absolutly amazing!
Whoa.. your cobblestone and bricks (stone) is the best i have seen so far.. it look so REALISTIC.. there is no pattern to me at all.

and is it possible that you could make a 256x? or not? maybe 128x?
Greetings gentlemen!

This is a nice resource pack! I remember there was one like this around beta of minecraft!
