What a great update - I've started a new map to celebrate and have completed a working lighthouse built out of "steel plate" (light gray wool). I'll have some pics up soon and a tutorial vid. I was working on the light keeper's house and was needing some interior detail. I might be blind but I hadn't seen a good "plaster" block - am I missing seeing it? There's just so many wonderful textures I might have went by it.
I was going to look in some of the older alt packs and Megistis' emporium. I can always use one from Conquest and upscale it to 64x. Any recommendations?

Glad you like the look of the new rail textures.
Lighthouse sounds interesting too. As regards the plaster texture, you've kind of got two choices really, as depicted in the following pic:
You can get a nice smooth tiling plaster by using the 'stone' slab. In the above screenshot it's the band of smooth white plaster/marble texture just below the marble frieze of figures.
For a rougher plaster, but the same color and shade as the stone slab, you'll want to take a look at the new cyan stained clay texture in the same pic above (middle band), designed to function as a rough plaster or marble.
Both textures are ctm textures, so you'll need MCPatcher or Optifine to realize their true potential, as both have excellent tiling functions. The smooth stone slab is purposefully smooth and plain, the rough cyan stained clay is very random, pockmarked and flecked with imperfections , but has no easily discernible pattern, having more ctm random textures than any other texture except dirt.
You can see how well the random ctm works for cyan stained clay in this pic:
Thanks Glim and Megistus! I think the stone slab might work out. The Cyan Clay showed up bluish in the item selector so I didn't try it out. Should have went into the debugger to see them all
Wow... I remember that this was one of my first packs, years ago. I've picked MC back up after a few years, and this is simply an amazing upgrade from where you were before.
I haven't seen your progress due to my absence, but I'm nearly speechless pertaining to your improvement as a texture creator!
I have yet to check if you've added or changed any audio yet, but if not, I'd have figurative tons of suggestions, like giving creepers a creaky sound, as well as any of the other seemingly clockwork/mechanical mobs with your pack.
I'll be rockin' the Sig by the time I post this, and I'll add it to some sigs on my more frequented sites (hackforums, hookahpro, etc.)
I hope to see you come this far forward again in a few years as well!
Good game, and I'm looking forward to your future in the field.

GENERATION 26: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
Support a Starving Artist (quite literally!) and click to have a listen!
Are you able to use MCPatcher or Optifine, only it sounds like from your previous post that you might be playing without, in which case the cyan stained clay will be a single tile and not the more useful 'connected' textures variety that features in my latest pics and videos

Welcome back, Lord Truth.
Always especially nice when folk come back and have another look at my old texture pack, but even nicer when someone goes to the trouble of passing the time of day.
Many thanks for those kind words, they are much appreciated. Glad you like the look of things, but if you look closer you'll probably notice there's still much to improve. You'd think after nearly 5 years I'd have completely finished everything, including lots of cool sounds, but that other dimension we call 'real life' keeps gettin' in the way!
The one safe thing however, is that I still enjoy making improvements and adding stuff to my own little world, so barring some personal catastrophe, it's probably a safe bet I'll still be working on things in another 5 years! I certainly have no desire to start over again on some other sandbox game!!
ps. That's very kind of you to be offering to display my sig, so again...much appreciated.
I've really enjoyed using mods, but I am wary of them too. If you use them, you are stuck with whatever version of MC they are compatible with when the developer no longer supports that mod, and it becomes especially tricky the more mods you use. I like using several popular mods like buildcraft, railcraft, and thermal expansion, but updating to 1.8 sounds like a very hard thing for their developers to do. (The new way MC handles block models is making these mods particularly cumbersome in terms of file sizes.) If you decide to upgrade MC you have to leave a world behind. I've found I do not like starting new worlds very much, I play survival and the prospect of starting from scratch makes me nauseous. I've built up quite a stockpile of resources in my primary world. I found a way to get around that is to just make a copy of my primary world and go off to some area of the map I hadn't explored before. But splitting my attention between worlds is also draining. I stopped playing for a long time due to multiple world fatigue. By the time my favorite mods finally update to MC 1.8, MC 1.9 will have hit or be close to doing so.
That's why I want Vanilla MC to include stair/slab variants of hardened clay.
hi Glim, Alex here, yah missed me?
i certainly did, concidering RL was realy trying its hardest to hold me off of my favourite comunity: here :3
BUT i wasnt missing any of your and others posts lately, as well as your videos, i seriously have to say that your pack is deffinitely turning into a, what i call, tripple A resource pack
the textures are all working in harmony, you did a great job on them all, aspecialy with the sandstone variants, and the metal jungle logs. i realy love using them.
and pritty much everything ... look its hard to keep track when RL is holding me back, as well as beeing ill. :S
yup, the flu got me, im through the painful, weak feeling stage, now im in the less painful but more annoying stage, ye know, when your nose and eyes are running like waterfall, and sneezes and everything, yeah.
.
but before that, i was very productive with my Dragon custom map, command block wise and story script wise (book wise), up to 70 pages in microsoft works text editor, my way of creating a propper profesional game (no matter in which engine it shall run) is by writing all scenes into a text editor and THEN planning all the buildings before adding the command blocks for the cut scenes and what not. i would love to share all these informations more precise and opticaly, but im not shure if minecraft forums editor is less buggy as before. remembering it deleted whole wall of texts and didnt even recognized spoiler sections as well as turning fancy colored fonts into a wall of BBC codes
what are your experiences about that, glim? is it still dangerous to put heartblood and soul into the post?
.
for the future: i might start filling up my threat on my custom map over again, if minecraftforums allowes me to.
if not, i,ll work on my custom map in silence, peace and serenity just how i love to work on it :3.
in advance, im sorry if any of my sentence seem unlogicaly, my brain isnt realy working when beeing ill... and im german. knowing 3 languages is a lil too much for me ;D
Howdy, Alex, good to see you around again!
Sorry to hear about the flu, it's the kind of thing that saps any enthusiasm for anything other than sleep, and that doesn't come easy when everything is streaming! Hope you're much better now.
I finally got to grips with the OP, but it took a huge effort to spruce things up and understand what was going on, being the simple guy I am. I also found out in the process that text size used different commands, you can't have more than one Youtube video in a post (!!?) and a few other little foibles that I've forgotten already. I just hope that the all the OP copy I now have saved off works again when I come to post update v17. The biggest effort went into trying to simplify things and Youtube playlists got over the video limitation, whilst Imgur came to the rescue for screenshots. Imgur is the single biggest asset to me now for showing stuff off, making the whole process a real breeze. Every other image site I've used, barring DeviantArt, has appeared to offer unlimited facilities to start with, then when you'r dependent, pulled the rug from under your feet and virtually used your images for ransom. Hence why a lot of my early images have disappeared forever from view.
Imgur has free full membership at the moment - I'd just paid for full membership back in January and a couple of weeks later they returned my money saying professional membership was now free! Apparently their costs are now covered by advertising. At the same time as returning my subscription (amazingly) they said they would give me one year of ad-free use as they hadn't given sufficient notice of their changes. Huge respect to Imgur for dealing with their members in this way and for returning all my money! Their facilities for editing and creating albums and the like is second to none.
So this is what color is, I had forgotten. These textures, they are too much. The colors swirl at my mind, I can hear them talking.
Just wanted to say I love the new work and I like the redesign of the OP too.
Hiya, mate!
Hope you've managed to thaw out and all is well.
Don't know what you've been up to, but if those snowy wastes involved tinkering with other games, I well understand. These days there are just too many awesome sandbox, creative, survival games out there to lose time in. I got distracted messing with Planet Explorers and StarMade this past week, but fortunately surfaced again to begin work on lots of new random sand and sandstone textures (more on this later) and getting building inspiration in Newglim working on more roads, foundations and canal/rivers (that's my best approach to starting new buildings) .
Good to hear from you though and very glad you like the new OP and update...many thanks.
Oh yes! Got a bit distracted from that with work and play and also discovering two transparent stray pixels on every random rail I'd done (but on different layers!) and hunting those down was so tedious I just decided to have a break.
Hey Glim! Well done on the new pack! I've been waiting a long time for this, its fantastic! But I was wondering when we'd see the new bosses and blocks getting their textures?
Glad you like the new stuff, Captain, and thanks for saying. I'm not sure when I'll be finishing the new mobs and prismarine blocks. I've laid the ground work, but am still not sufficiently inspired to start work on them as I haven't been able to link up to an area in my world of Newglim in 1.8 that has the new blocks and mobs. Once I cross that hurdle I'll feel more like I want to work in earnest on them.
As soon as I have something worthy of display I'll show some screenshots for sure.
As mentioned above I'm still in a sandstone mood at the moment and have started work on a more unique sandstone chiseled/carved block design to replace the temporary copy of the marble frieze figure texture and after finishing up on the new rail I'm psyching myself up for updating the OP and releasing the version 17 'rail' update.
I really wish there were stair and slab variants of the stained clay. That is all.
I couldn't agree more with you there, Julius.
In addition to that, I don't understand why we can't yet re-orient more blocks in the game, instead of only being able to place logs on their side. In my simple non-coder way of thinking I imagine that each orientation would take up more memory and processing power in game and that it wouldn't be a simple thing to do and that's why this has never been done. However, if it was possible to place every block that has a different top and side texture horizontally and vertically it would open up a huge range of design possibilities without having to make loads more textures.
Rather than constantly introducing new blocks, it would be nice if Mojang would allow us to use existing blocks in more versatile ways, like shrinking blocks (I understand there'd still be a space limitation here in the way Minecraft calculates blocks, but they've done it for displaying blocks in frames), moving faces around or adding tiles to faces (I imagine this would impact on processing), paintings on horizontal surfaces...carpet on vertical surfaces...basically just allowing us more freedom to orient things would be a huge step forward.
.....GSv.17 New Random Sand and New Carved Sandstone!
I've been messing about with grass edges too, adding a bit more rough and tumble to the dirt and longer bunches of hanging grass. However, the main addition to the palette of textures, in this update of an update, is lots of random sand tops and a new random carved sandstone to replace the place holder sandstone coloured marble frieze (see the revised Gsv17 changelog below for more details). Red sandstone_carved and red_sand have also received the same treatment. So a lot more random textures again!
A also edited the 'color.properties' file in the MCPatcher folder to stop the new smooth stone textures - andesite, granite and diorite from being influenced by biome coloring. Do you think I should turn biome coloring off for the rough versions too? Personally I tend to like them blending in in their natural setting, but does that limit their use when you build with them?
Anyway pictures speak louder than words so I hear, if you'll forgive my mix metaphors, so here is another Imgur album of sandy stuff:
Here's a new GSv.17 Changelog (as of 2/3/15):
......Updated GSv.17 Changelog
New 'mojang.png' title plate.
Updated steve.png which was missing extra arms and legs. Thanks to Ixkspal for pointing this out.
Updated inventory GUI with new yellow heart icon.
Fixed double_slab stonebricks not being properly random.
Fixed tops of smooth and carved sandstone by swapping them over.
Fixed tops of smooth and carved red sandstone by swapping them over.
New 64x gadget rich 'experience_orb.png' which finally ties in with the enchanting table/bookcase 'machine parts' particles. 11 new 64x icons.
New 64x enchanting table/bookcase machine parts particles on the particles.png sheet. 26 new icons.
New Villager interaction icons - blood splurge and 'sold' stamp. As of MC 1.8.1 villager interaction icons don't seem to work. This is not my fault.
All new 64x rail_normal
All new 64x rail_normal_turned
39 x random ctm rail_normal tracks, sporting all sorts of odds and ends - screwdrivers, chisels, hammers, chains, bolts, braces, wire, plates, boxes, pipes, etc. carefully weighted so things look interesting but not repetitive.
New 64x detailed animated rail_detector and rail_detector_powered.
New 64x detailed rail_activator and rail_activator_powered.
New 64x detailed rail_golden and rail_golden_powered.
8 new random grass sides, taking the total to 33.
8 new random grass side overlays, taking the total to 28.
edited the 'color.properties' file in the MCPatcher folder to stop the new smooth stone textures - andesite, granite and diorite from being influenced by biome coloring.
54 new random sand textures (over and above the existing 36 repeat sand textures), including 36 rocks and stones (reasonably common, but not to the point of distraction). 18 junk/lost metal items (very rare - so as not to look like the desert 'junk' fairy has gone bananas!).
7 new sandstone_carved/chiseled centre sections (remember this is for vertical ctm), depicting random 'ancient' carved circuit diagrams. These textures replace the temporary sandstone shaded marble frieze figures introduced in Gsv16.
54 new random red sand textures (over and above the existing 36 repeat sand textures), including 36 rocks and stones (reasonably common, but not to the point of distraction). 18 junk/lost metal items (very rare - so as not to look like the desert 'junk' fairy has gone bananas!).
7 new red_sandstone_carved/chiseled centre sections (remember this is for vertical ctm), depicting random 'ancient' carved circuit diagrams. These textures replace the temporary sandstone shaded marble frieze figures introduced in Gsv16. These are a color edited version of the normal carved sandstone, so at some stage I'd like to do something more unique to red_sandstone
Hey, I've been a fan of this pack for a while, only just now made an account to ask this question. Could you make some bookshelf textures that are more like shelves instead of library catalogs? I tried to find some in the alternate textures folder, but I couldn't find one. Is there something there already that I'm just not seeing?
I like the change away from the place holder texture for the carved sandstone. I don't know if you have seen Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on your side of the pond or not, but at one point some of the characters on the show start having the irresistible compulsion to carve symbols that look a lot like your carved sandstone. It turns out to have something to do with some ancient alien presence on Earth.
I take it you mean the new GSv17 update coming soon rather than the GSv16 update which is already out? Knowing your predilection for all things rail and train I hope you'll like the new 64x train textures,

Welcome to the forum, TBestlG.
I'll be working on new CTM bookshelf textures soon, though not for this GSv17 update, and it will probably consist of a combination bookcase, filing cabinet, shelves, etc., but I might also utilize one of the double slab wood textures for a traditional bookcase/shelves and stick to filing/storage shelves for the bookshelves. Haven't started on it yet, so I'm not sure how things will turn out, but either way I could make a small 'add-on' pack for anyone just wanting bookshelves.
If you look in the 'Mod Emporium' section in the OP, you should find some old 32x bookcase textures in the 'Alts' download, though you might have to cut and paste them and drop them into the pack, but better still, if you look in Megistus' shop in the Emporium, I'm sure I saw he'd made some alt bookshelves and book 'case' combinations which might just be a case (no pun intended!) of dropping a ready made alt straight in.
Glad you like the pack and thanks for joining us in the 'ideas department'.

Is that the serialized TV version? If it is then I've seen a trailer for it on Netflix, but I'm currently watching 'House' for the first time with my other half. Glanced at the first couple of episodes whilst making a brew and got completely hooked, which is unusual for me as I usually hate losing any time to TV series. So if things are going slower than usual around here you'll know I'm watching another episode of House.
So I haven't seen any S.H.I.E.L.D clips of alien electronic stone carving, but I've been steeped in ancient Science and Sci-fi stories since what seems like birth! I'm coming at it more from the H G Wells Time Machine angle and some future retro earth civilisation leaving behind functional glyph decorations as a permanent record of their inventions and at the same time keeping that desert/Egyptian feel of Hieroglyphs. I had toyed with the idea of using my 'electrickery' circuit designs for one of the prismarine blocks, but thought they'd be more useful as carved sandstone walls.
The carved red sandstone will probably be a combination of pictorial figure images and made up symbols that appear to be some kind of language...there's a wealth of symbols out there I can use for inspiration, but I'm a bit worried that with my luck I'll probably put something together that turns out to be a really offensive word or concept for some present day culture!
.....GSv.17 Vid. 2 - Random Sand & Sandstone Electrickery
Glimmar's Steampunk v.17 Update, available soon!
The main addition to the GS palette of textures, in this update of an update, is lots of random sand tops and a new random 'carved' sandstone to replace the place holder sandstone coloured marble frieze introduced in GSv16.

Anyway, have a look at the video and see what you think.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks for looking.
Oh! There's a video too now...a few posts below!

Curse PremiumI take it you mean the new GSv17 update coming soon rather than the GSv16 update which is already out?
Not yet, rosestorm. GS 'v17' will be blazoned across the OP when it is though, so you won't miss it.

Curse Premium.....GSv.17 Vid.
54 new random sand textures (over and above the existing 36 repeat sand textures), including 36 rocks and stones (reasonably common, but not to the point of distraction). 18 junk/lost metal items (very rare - so as not to look like the desert 'junk' fairy has gone bananas!).
Red sandstone_carved and red_sand have also received the same treatment. So a lot more random textures again!
Anyway, have a look at the video and see what you think.
Thanks for watching.
